Hi Chris... The "pug-a-das" like you called them are:... the line came up with the name "Echo's" It's something I messed around with in some solo work... The line liked them so I put them in the book... The line originally wanted to call them "Scojo's Squirts) I said NO !!! :-)

What he actually did was much more than that
He taught me how to teach myself, he also stressed that you have to play it slow enough that you play it perfect, speed comes with repetition
Its different when your tryna learn somn for fun as a challenge. It improves your sight reading if you do it every not and then, but not everytime

One of those guys in there, Brandon Olander, I’ve met last year. Not blue devils related but we are both in bands and we played at this venue one night and he was so nice! Complimented my playing as a fellow drummer. Made me feel honored hearing him say that to me when later I found out who he was. His band’s name is “Droll” check em out when you can🔥😼
Found you today, second video I’ve watched and I love seeing how you take a piece of lit, and break it down. Funny how mastery of fundamentals changes your approach to new music. Wish I had taken that to heart when I was more seriously pursing music
I love your channel man! The way you react at first to seeing the videos of the music is so relatable, it reminds me of when I first approach music. Sometimes if something seems hard I at first think I can’t do this but then by breaking it down I start to get the hang of it. You really make learning and breaking down DCI Drumline music a really fun and humble experience for all percussionist from beginners to experts

used to watch this exact video with my aunt the blue devils always had a killer drumline but i was always big fans of phantom regiment and the blue stars shows. was also lucky enough to get into a cadets practice while they were doing the between angels and demons show. that was fun my uncle got me in and i got to march on the field next to the drumline during it

I don't play the drums, I don't want to play the drums. But this guy is mind boggling to me.
I like hearing your thought process as you work through these lines. You learn kind of the same way I do (only much faster!) 1. Determine the "feel" of the section (accents, dynamics, and sticking without worrying about flams, diddles, etc.), 2. Scope out any rudiments (so you can put those parts on autopilot and not have to think about them), 3. break down anything with complicated timing, and then 4. focus on the stuff in-between. Does that sound about right?

Not sure why so much footage was fast forwarded through, the video ended up only being 16min long. But 20min is the length you should be aiming for, seems to be what the algorithm likes

Pro tip from a brass player: memorization of sheet music and recognizing patterns is a skill, the longer you work on it, the easier it will come to you. Keep on grindin!

WHEN you do a long run, cut out the ambient music. I’d rather hear the long drum patterns w/ out the low music for the video.
