Trying to tell Jay about training, I can’t believe this guy.
I’m a little older than Mike, haven’t been on stage since the 80s. I also still train relatively heavily and have found that you need to know what exercises benefit from this periodically balanced against injury.
The reverse grip bench works great for me, I get a lot less joint discomfort, and like having it as an option.
Peter and David Paul along with Anthony Clark popularized it in the 80s.

My first chest day with those isometric holds put an extra 1/2 inch on my arms. I have never had a pump like that.

The trio in the video is just extremely genetically gifted so they can get away with anything lol. Nobody else should train like them. That's my takeaway.
Jay Cutler is literally a living legend and Mike always has to bethe smartest guy in the room. Plus Jay said he hasn't used flat bench in years. Tons of guys have said training with Mike got them hurt. He does 💩 that no one besides him should do. Jay is basically doing a guillotine press.

“I’m 100 years old” he’s really pushing the envelope like it’s second nature at this point.
Majority of people doing flat bench press are working Delts more than pecs, though Jays form was working pecs decently, coming up high by the chin pre-stretching the pecs, the pecks were meant to pull together(flies or peck, deck, etc.) if you want to bench always do it after the single joint movements.(flyes)
Reverse grip is beneficial
Actually reverse grip if done correctly will emphasize the upper pecs, the triceps too though, but if you're like me and the chest stays the limiting factor in almost any press it's definitely an option. With a claw grip it can also be pretty stabe and some guys with joint issues can only bench with a reverse grip. Mike O Tren will always be a meme but the reverse grip bench definetly has it's place.

Mike has always had this attitude with pros where he thinks he's on their same level just because of how old he is, and yet strangely he has never actually accomplished anything in the bodybuilding world to put him anywhere near their level.
Because he's a total wannabe in every fitness based venture. "Oh I'm Mike O'Hearn, I'm 55 and have the best cardio, flexibility, aesthetics, strength, *and* I'm a celebrity. And dont forget the Natty card. Yea, just genetics I guess."
Well I get your point, but he has had the been on more muscle magazine covers then 80 percent of all pro bodybuilders, with that being said he's simply a fitness model who happens to be freakishly strong and if I am not mistaken I don't think he has ever had serious injuries which is pretty rare but I guess the most annoying thing is he pretends to have never taken gear

Doesnt the reverse grip activate upper chest more by 30% and involve more triceps by tucking the elbows and take pressure off the shoulder? Ive heard about literature talking about that and i personally feel it when doing that

Jay had to compete against Ronnie too! That said, it doesn't mean Jay knows everything about lifting or bodybuilding, but what he does know is sufficient for him to have one of the best results ever in Bodybuilding given his genetics, etc. The same goes for Mike O'Tren of course. The same goes for Larry et al.

The reverse grip bench FOR ME is a tremendous exercise.
I began doing it when I strained my pec doing the regular grip and it allowed me to maintain my pressing strength while avoiding the tension on my chest.
It all boils down to your goals and preference

Mike is way beyond 1% of 1%.
I think jay meant with his presses is that the higher up he is the more legs you can utilize. If your lower the legs aren’t going to be utilized as much or at all.
What Jay said about the seat height is 100% correct. Lower benches are better for heavy work than higher ones.
My triceps eat my bench press. I plate loaded machine press and cable press now crazy chest pumps.
I benched for years with modest gains in strength, however, my chest never grew. I switched to cable work about a year ago. My chest grew more in one year than it did in 20 years. . i should have switched years ago.

Jay’s done that technique with 405 back in the day for multiple reps even I’ve been that way I think it’s more or less the bodies mechanics because I never feel any pain myself
I'll try to explain Jay's "closer to the floor" issue... I have this issue BUT for me how I'd explain this is that many benches feel too high... everything from the hip down through the leg to the feet just feel better and more natural on a low seat... EVEN in my office I like a chair that sits close to the floor... legs etc.. just feel better and I feel more connected to the floor. Perhaps he feels this to but doesn't know how to explain it.
That's a fair point, I also thought he meant something like that, where it just feels more comfortable for the rest of his body.

I prefer to be stonger as possible then be as big as possible, just to look at my physique in the mirror. i love putting 585 on my traps an squating it for 5 to 6 reps when i can not do those heavy reps any more i will look for another sport like surfing and cicling
