  • Elden Ring continues the bold From Software tradition of being secretly hilarious. Here are the things that cracked us up in Elden Ring. No story spoilers or major dungeons shown here, but note entry no.7 has footage of a significant (and significantly funny) central boss fight.

The raisins become more critical as the game goes on with mounted combat. I'm not sure how Torrent's HP is calculated, but I think it might be by the player's total level. Regardless, as you go on, the more HP Torrent has and the less likely in a mounted duel it'll be for the player to be instantly knocked off from a big hit. Which means as a duel goes on the cumulative damage from the boss you're fighting has a much greater chance of killing Torrent if you don't heal him up as well with the raisins, because sure you might heal yourself, but it won't heal Torrent when you do.

    How about the boulder traps?
Previously, Fromsoft has used simple rolling rock traps, and then later the two-way skeleton balls in Dark Souls 3, but Elden Ring really takes the cake. In both Liurnia and Caelid, you can find magic summoning circles that spawn big boulders to crush you, which implies that there are wizards who have nothing better to do with their time than cast Summon Rock all day.
But the best is in the Eternal city of Nokstella. Where you find *sentient boulders with health bars* that deliberately aim at you, and will back up, turn around, and roll at you again the second they get the chance.
It’s boulder traps taken to the absurdist extreme, and I love it.

I still wonder if there is going to be an "Unburdened Radahn" fight coming out during the ongoing support that was promised (DLC?). That could make for some amazing comedic setpiece, of absolute ownage of the player, whilst an old horse is casually floating around, being fed floating apples, maybe some floating brushes stroking him. Also, reveal that he is named Leonard with some loving dialoge during the fight.
Radahn is known as the strongest of the demigods after all, he is only the third of them most people will fight because he is:
    A) sick with scarlet rot and at the moment actively dying AND not capable of rational thought
    B) making himself hover just on top of his way too old and gangly horse
    C) literally stopping the stars with his gravity magic, preventing an enourmous asteroid from hitting the planet
So, in essence, he is using the HP, stamina and FP his Great Rune grants him to do nothing but cancel out his extreme handicap.

Didn't die once, surprisingly. Took me an embarrassing amount of time to figure out where he was yelling from. Cleared the enemies below before I realized he was above me.
I was going to chime in with the lore about Radahn's horse, who is also apparently named Leonard, which I love.
I'm just under 11 hours in, but I think I have 2 funny moments. I was attempting to clear out the enemies around that caravan to get the chest on the back of the giant cart and I wasn't doing too badly for once. Well, Torrent got despawned while I was fighting. The knight on horseback had yeeted himself obligingly off the cliff for me, and so I summoned Torrent again to get closer to the caravan to finish wiping out the few remaining enemies. I ended up sitting on an invisible Torrent completely unable to move or do anything. I just sat there for ages before I spontaneously died. Fun. The second time was that poison flower garden nearby by the aforementioned caravan. I was like, oh, poison pollen, that's fine. I did not expect some white lasers coming out of nowhere at me. The hell sort of giant flower summons space lasers a la Ebrietas?!
Another bit was when I finally decided to fight some bears. Took out one easily and was wondering about all the fuss. Saw a bear scratching a tree so I picked a fight with it. Talk about immediate regret. I saw just how massive it was and then just how little damage I dealt it before I decided to nope away from the whole situation.
Today I'm off to help Blaidd with his quest, find Boc for the second time, and then maybe fight that giant eff off dragon in the lake. Although I suspect I won't get there today.

@@HanabiraKage Ah, that makes sense. I met the guy in daylight. I've actually done very little exploring in the worlds during night. I've either been fighting in a cave/dungeon/etc or I've ended up doing some traveling and then it's light again when I go out into the world.
I really need to find a vendor with the lantern. I have the torch, but I haven't had cause to use it since I've stayed above ground and can see my surroundings fine without it. I've only met 2 vendors: Kale and the vendor down on the shore. I know a lot of players are adopting the practice of killing the vendors to put all their items with the sellers/ladies/whatever they are in Roundtable. As annoying as it might be to travel to different vendors, I'm likely to leave them alive since I try to avoid killing NPCs in these games unless I'm given no choice regarding a specific questline. I mean, I did kill the suspicious beggar in the Forbidden Woods in Bloodborne, but that's because I knew he was a beast in disguise and I decided to pick a fight with him instead of sending him to the false Iosefka.

    2. Our second encounter with Alexander when he is stuck in a hole, again. And mid spanking he exclaims ‘I have a terrible feeling about this!’
    3. Alexander stuffing his cracked innards with dead bodies to build up his strength, again!
    4. Goldmask having a very serious and lore shattering quest-line despite only T-posing and saying nothing to us
