Funny thing I learned recently is that Patches first appearance wasn't in Demon's Souls, he is in fact a character from Armored Core series, a cowardly enemy mech-pilot called Patch that snipes you from a distance, he surrenders as soon as you damage him enough.
Yeah, I think Patches and the Moonlight Greatsword are FromSoftware's longest running recurring item/NPC. I haven't dug too deep, but I haven't found other references to their pre-Souls era games.
@@SolaScientia Moonlight sword is originally from Kings Field 1, I think. It has been also in every Armored Core game as Moonlight laser sword.

The Omen Killer with two dogs in an open arena, instead of a claustrophobic tiny room. Finally fixed the capra fight.
honestly that tiny area is the only reason that fight is difficult. with an open area it's a but too easy.

Little shout out to Village of the Albinaurics, for being extremely Bloodborney in vibe, and housing NPCs who love to tell you variations on "this town's finished".

The wells in the Albinauric Village. More specifically, the messages everyone leaves there calling back to the part of Siegward's questline where you have to get his armor back from Patches and throw it down the well he's trapped in. Not an intentional easter egg by the developers, but a fun community-made one that made me smile.

What about the Frenzy-Flaming Tower? It periodically lights up inflicting the player with frenzy, just like the Nightmare of Mensis' castle periodically inflicts the player with madness.

Example Logarius Wheel in Bloodborne is one of many, many, many obvious references to Berserk in Fromsofts games, yet for someone who knows nothing about Berserk the Wheel is a reference to the Skelton of Dark Souls and even if you do know what Berserk is and are a massive fan of it it does not deny the significance of how long Wheel based enemy/ wepons have been about in Fromsoft games now.
So isn't that technically a reference of both older FS titles and Berserk?

The omenkiller in the village of albinaurics is very reminiscent of the Capra demon. Both dual wield large curved swords and are avid dog persons.
They actually share the same moveset, albeit they are more aggressive then Capra Demons.

- Patches also says he'll be happy to 'wheel and deal' when you encounter him in the cave, a little throwback to Gavlan from Dark Souls 2. Gavlan Wheel, Gavlan Deal!
- I'd argue the 'Scorpion Stinger' dagger is also a nod to 'Manscorpion Tark' from Dark Souls 2, who himself is a nod to the legendary 'Iron Tarkus' from Dark Souls.
- Would we agree the 'Grafted Blade Greatsword' is an homage to the Iron Throne from Game of Thrones?
- Not sure if we should count the 'Black Bow' as well, since it has been in every Dark Souls game so far, and is always linked back to 'Pharis' the NPC you get it from. Dark Souls 2 has my favourite item description regarding this bow.
- Alexander's whole thing is Siegmeyer/Siegward. Jar-Bairn unfortunately doesn't resemble Sieglinde much at all, but I don't think they were necessarily supposed to.
(I would personally class all of these as Easter Eggs, but feel free to disagree)

@@rock21611 Yeah I figured, but considering there are no other scorpions in any of the games, including this one, besides Najka of course...I like to think you can't go a single game without a little bit of Tarkus somewhere. Probably not an actual easter egg as you say, but my headcanon stands.
You Also have Loretta the knight of haligtree which may be a reference to loretta bone from ds3. Considering both characters were connected with "helping the opressed"
For anyone curious about the Icon Shield, it's inspired by the Pavese shields from history, look them up, they're pretty unique. They were used by crossbowmen by thrusting the shield into the ground to reload the crossbow in its cover. Basically a portable little wall!

7 Easter Eggs in Outside Xtra listicles. Number 7: in the "7 Soulsborne Easter Eggs in Elden Ring" video, Luke Westaway explained how you would get to memorize Gehrman's theme song because you would listen to it for a long time as Gehrman explodes your body over and over. The easter egg hidden in this entry was that the gameplay footage shown during that part was actually from Luke's very own playthrough of Bloodborne where he would go on to defeat Gehrman during only his second attempt.
I was thinking that too. After beating Orphan of Kos (or some say Kosm) Gehrman is easy.

You can actually get a second moonlight greatsword, the golden order sword was Radagon's moonlight, but he modified it to adhere to the tenets of the golden order

On the topic of Castle Morne, I think the whole level's a reference specifically to The Rains of Castamere from asoiaf (not gonna talk about the grafted greatsword since that's only tangentially related). The area boss is is a lion with "a coat of red", House Reyne's symbol; the lore behind the castle suggests subservience to the Golden lineage as a result of having been conquered by a powerful ancestor of it, in this case, Horah Loux, whose regent would go on to become a spirit lion. Irina's word choice parallels the language of the lyrics; "they haven't spared a soul" vs "not a soul to hear". The greater area's literally a rainy landscape called the "Weeping" Peninsula, after all.
Even the music sounds similar!
Yeah there are a few references to ASOIAF. It seems like Martin wrote more Winds of Winter into ER than he had the actual book.
While not a soulsborne, my favourite ‘From Software’ nod is the prosthetic arm you give to an npc, which looks exactly like the prosthetic icon from Sekiro.
Actually, I'm pretty sure sekiro counts as a soulsbourne. It would just be too complicated to call them soulsbournekirorings.

Elden Ring actually has the most King's Field easter eggs and references out of all soulsbourne games, from golden trees related to dragons, giant ants, snake people, plants spewing poison etc. to not just the Moonlight Sword, but now it is combined with the Dark Slayer, the dark element counter part. In fact this game is more like 3rd person King's Field than another soulsbourne.
Also this isn't the first "Ring" game from Fromsoft, I'm willing to bet that there a ton of Eternal Ring references but nobody knows about it because nobody played that game.

also check out Shadow Tower Abyss, the first From Soft games to use souls as currency to spend on stats and has the exact same stat system as the Souls games, and is also about a giant tree ruled by an entity called the Great Will.
Good old King's Field, Shadow Tower and Eternal Ring.. been too long since I've played those games. Those games are what made me fall in love with From Soft games
Tombsward Catacombs, in the Weeping Peninsula. This is where you find spirit ashes for Lhutel the Headless. Elden Ring has its own variety of messy looking skeletons with their own attack animations and revival rules -- but in the Tombsward Catacombs, the skeletons are the 'clean' ones from Dark Souls 1, and have all of their original animations, including carefully straightening their skull, rolling toward you, even the way they attack and reel back from blocks is right out of DS1. I think this is the only place I encountered skeletons using these specific animations, and it immediately felt nostalgic.
I'm pretty sure there are TWO more catacombs in the latter portions of the game that feature these skeletons, as well as the ones in the Gelmir Hero Grave being the iconic DS1 boneheads!!
My favorite Easter Egg is more of a subtle tribute, but it's the Volcano Manor itself. It's a secret, isolated mansion whose people practiced blasphemy against the main order in the game, and you need a letter of invitation to enter. Sound familiar? It's a tribute to Castle Cainhurst in Bloodborne! It's even led by a queen, and there's a murderous wheel guy in the attic. Also this might be a stretch, but Castle Cainhurst was located in the only snowy area in Bloodborne, while Volcano Manor is in the only volcanic area in Elden Ring.
So, just an extra, but the moonlight sword also makes a big appearance on the armored core series... Be it a dreaming blood hunter, an apocalypse zombie, a glorious hero or even a giant mecha, everyone deserves a taste of this blade, according to from software... Just don't taste it with your tongue, might loose it.
While we’re at it, 3D Dot Game Heroes also has a variation of it.

They named a boss Loretta no doubt in reference to the unseen NPC whose bone we deliver to Greyrat in Dark Souls 3

While not an easter egg from any souls series, Elemer is a nod to Blasphemous, a 2d metroidvania inspired by Dark Souls. Not to mention the Penitent one's sword is the inspiration for Rykard's Blasphemous Blade. A nod to a game inspired by Dark Souls, it comes around.
The Meteoric Ore Blade's heavy attack is exactly Ichimonji Double from Sekiro. It's pretty fun to use
They just copy-pasted most animations from their older games so if this is a reference, half of movesets are references
The magic student Thops has the same voice actor as the Crestfallen Warrior from Dark Souls. Thops is even sitting like him!
About the shield for that ("that" referring to Deathblight), I don't know if Luke knew and said it on purpose but there's actually such a shield (which essentially raises your vitality, making it easier to avoid Deathblight). It's in gaol cave, in Caelid, hidden behind 2 imp statues...
...And it comes in the shape of a pillory...Because, of course it does XD
That vitality boost saved my butt more than a few times when I got ambushed by basilisks. Wish there was a +1 version for even more Death protection.
There’s actually 2 talismans that boost death blight resistance. The Prince of Death’s Pustule and The Prince of Death’s Cyst
The pustule is found under Stormveil
The cyst is better, and is found in Deeproot
Indeed. I wasn't mentioning it because Luke specifically said "Where's the shield that protects against that" but there's indeed items that provide similar effects.

So, I think one obvious easter egg is "The Queen's Bedchamber"...the "bed" in name is very very similar to another giant "bed" of a beloved large Queen in Dark Souls lore ;) like my mind immediately went there when I saw it.

There’s something that I haven’t really seen anybody mentioning in these sorts of things. It may be too obvious, and that may be why, but the statues in the room with the Silver Tear Phalanx are clearly Messengers from Bloodborne. You can see them in one of the images that pops up on the loading screen too.
The fight against the God-Devouring Serpent probably should have made the list, with the spear being a reference to DeS's and DS3's Storm Ruler. Also would like to add that the Moonlight shows up in the Armored Core series as a laser blade across multiple games, usually (if not always) as the highest attack laser blade. In some of the older ones, you can even shoot the blade as a projectile as well.
I think it's more about fromsoftware running out of ideas than a reference
The Golden Centipedes could be a nod to Sekiro's centipedes as besides being centipedes, they are used in the Rejuvenating Boluses that alleviate the Death status effect, like how the centipedes in Sekiro begets immortality in their hosts

I found a few great little easter eggs!
I loved how in castle morne there's a section where a slime falls on your head when you go to get an item - great nod to that iconic trap in the depths. Another nod to the depths is a section in the subterranean shunning ground where a rat bursts out of a box when you get too close!
And another music one, it's not note perfect like the one you mentioned, but as the Elden Beast is coming out of the water there's a few gentle piano notes I felt were deeply reminiscent of Gwyn's theme!
The weapon the dragon has in Sekiro looks quite a bit like the top half of Elden Ring's Death Ritual Spear in its design

I was scrolling to see if anyone said that. Also the creatures in Chicago Manor that crawl with the big heads and the ones by the well in the capital look very similar to the creatures from research hall in Bloodborne.
You can get a dragon greatshield talisman in Elden Ring that has a similar design to the dragon greatsheild in Dark Souls but it doesn't replenish health, just makes you stronger
Because sun amulet on chestplate of Dungeater first thought was "Solaire?". After digging deeper in his questline - "Oh my god, poor Solaire, what those light bug does to your mind?!".

The Moonlight Greatsword is also in 3D dot game heroes like several other FROMsoft weapons... Also, for some reason that game always gets deleated off their wiki, presumably for being too easy.
I remember watching that Phalanx fight and losing my mind over Luke's refusal to use fire against it. That fight takes under a minute with 🔥

That and the festival dancers are a throwback to bloodborne village area. Crazy dancing ladies skinning people and murdering men.
That and Blaidd is technically wearing Artorious' armor too. Remove the cloak and it is painfully obvious. Minus the helmet but the attacks, running on all fours, and jumping sword plunge are all Artorious. The wolf part is a throw back to Sif even the reluctance to fight you until he goes mad.
Artorias was also referred to as the Wolf Knight in Dark Souls, with his ring being the Wolf Ring.
The Albanauric village had a very Bloodborne vibe to it

When you find Dung Eater in the Goel sewers he makes a reference to the curse of Kos in Bloodborne Old Hunter's DLC. "They'll be cursed. Along with their children, and their children's children, for all time to come..."
It is my headcanon that Patches is a Constant: a lesser demigod who exists across nigh-all realities and cannot truly die, merely banished one at a time.

My fave entry regarding the Patches is some kind of higher being is from the darksouls wiki. Lots of the wiki is based around ingame events, item descriptions,... to prove whatever they claim but Patches wiki just ends with: many souls born have Patches, there either exist a lot of different version of him or he's an transdimesional entity.
The Elden Beast has an attack thats very reminiscent of the Divine Dragons attack. The horizontal sword slashes he does when at range, I found the rythm of the Elden Beasts harder to dodge as I was never quite prepared for them
I just call them "Souls-games" for the ones made by Fromsoft and "Souls-likes" for those not made by Fromsoft.
The Warmth spell turning into the Warmth stone... Loretta, we get her bones for Greirat's questline in DS3... the cane sword in Leyndell, like the threaded cane, as well as the Great Stars, looking like the transformed Bloodletter weapon in Bborne..
Irina and the Castle was the first I noticed and was like "no way", than I found gael tunnel, and the blind finger maiden, and the pizza cutter...

I like how the merchants repeat the song and seem slightly uncertain how to play it. It's like they heard it once, perhaps in a dream, and are trying to keep it in their memory or remember it at all. It makes me wonder if 'madness' is more than simply a connecting theme between the games.
I loved the artistic nature of the icon shield.
It paired nicely with my faith build, Goldmask mask, and Crucible Knight armor.
The Great Serpent/Lord of Blasphemy boss fight has the same gimmick at the Storm King from Demon's Souls an Yhorm the Giant from Dark Souls 3. The Serpent Hunter Greatspear isn't exactly the Storm Ruler, but it works in a very similar way with its charged-up long ranged wind attacks.
I was coming to comment on the finger animation for the song. It was really well done. I love that kind of attention to detail
I do like the fact the Dark Moon Greatsword shows differently when looking at the blade through a ghost
I love how blue the moonlight greatsword is in Elden Ring. It looks much prettier with a frozen hue. However, I'm wondering if an actual Moonlight Greatsword will appear as dlc similar to how there are two full moon versions. Maybe a glinstone version
Kind of like in Bloodborne with there being a fake mass produced greatsword, which was based off of the Holy Moonlight Greatsword in game. In the DLC you get the true Holy Moonlight Greatsword, in all it's glory

The npc D has a piece of dialogue that i reckon is based from marias "a corpse should be left well alone" line
The Bloody Slash Ash of War is a reference to the Mortal Blade in Sekiro. The Vacuum Slice Ash of War is a reference to Isshin's Dragon Flash.
I can't remember where but there is a melody very similar to the "Seith the Scaleless" Bossfight Theme.
The Moonlight beam sword in the Armored Core series was always my go to.
Shout out to D, Beholder of Death's monologue when killing Fia being a callback to Alfred's when he mashed the Queen of Cainhurst.

A few other callbacks I've noticed:
Leyndell Sewers have sections of pipes with sudden drops that lead to basilisks, just like in The Depths - sewers in DS1. Letndell sewers even have that same rat hiding in a crate that jumpscares you, just like in The Depths.
Entering Castle Sol, you are greeted with a guardian lion. Fight it for a bit, and when it's half health - a second lion appears. This is exactly how Lud & Zallen boss fight in DS2 goes, which are also two lions found in a snowy area

@@nox9856 i run mix of all elements, basically checking weaknesses of new enemies, was using dual holy scythes around this time(switch to dual greatsword now)

One that made me laugh out loud: in the Subterranean Shunning Grounds beneath Leyndell. If you go left from the Underground Roadside Site of Grace, past the Omens, and drop down through the open grate into the sewers, you'll find a bunch of rats. As you're walking down the pipe, a group of rats approaches, and as you get close, another one smashes out of a wooden crate off to the left. Thing is, the same thing happens in another Soulsborne sewer: the Depths, in Dark Souls 1. To me, it read as a clear reference in an area that seemed to serve a similar thematic purpose (and was just as annoying)

The Death Ritual Spear kinda looks like the Divine Dragon's sword from Sekiro
Pretty cool the whirligig saw was referenced with the ghiza wheel. I remember beating Gehrman with little trouble using it. The number of tries escapes me but I'd guess 3 tries. Well I really enjoyed Bloodborne & Elden Ring.
The moonlight greatsword also appears in the Armored Core games, so it's not just a soulsborne Easter Egg, it's a From Software Easter Egg.
Patches too isn't just a Soulsborne Easter Egg, he too appears in some Armored Core games.

I do have an interesting idea for list stemming from the recent Stanley Parable Expansion.
That idea being, times they updated a joke for the remake.
See in the Stanley Parable where the narrator gets sick of your BS and decides to start loading up other games. In the original release he boots up Minecraft and Half-life but in the expansion he brings up more recent indie hits FireWatch and Rocket League.

I didn’t notice until you showed the Divine Dragon, but I think the death ritual spear is a direct reference to that weapon the dragon is wielding. Same shape, just different color and class.

Well, that explains the moonlight. I didn't know about their older series, but the Moonlight was often the best beam sword in the Armored Core series. It often defeated enemy AC fairly quickly, and when I found that sword in Elden ring, the name made me think of that. I didn't know it had its roots prior though
The sacred order greatsword is also a variant of the moonlight greatsword as well, just that it was tampered with turning it into what it is bow
I found what appears to be a dead frampt down in the lower parts of stormveil castle, down where you find the tree spirit, in the room with the ladder to head back up appears to be frampt
Anyone felt that the music in Crumbling Farum Azula has Majula vibes? It always gives me goosebumps. Also the Rivers of Blood katana similar to the Mortal Blade from Sekiro
Funny thing about that particular cookbook? It's probably the ONLY one everyone will use as it gives you the Uplifting Aromatic recipe, it's a shielding perfume that acts as an AoE Opaline Bubbletear, and you can carry as many as you can craft and store.
there is a shield dropped by certain skeletons that directly relates to the capital in DS3 ( can't remember the name) could be an Easter egg or evidence Elden Ring is later in the timeline
I noticed a lot of reference in this game for sure! It seems the lands between are a purgatory of sorts on the edge of the reality of the other games if that makes sense. Like this is a prequel of sorts.
