Das Château de Grandson thront am nordwestlichen Ufer des Lac de Neuchâtel (dt. Neuenburgersee), über dem historischen Städtchen von Grandson (447 m ü. M.). Das Schloss gehört zu den grössten mittelalterlichen Festungsbauten der Schweiz, vergleichbar mit dem Château de Chillon ebenfalls im Waadtland. Der eindrucksvolle Bau, in seinem Ursprung aus dem 11. Jh., verfügt über fünf Rundtürme und beherbergt heute in seinen Gemäuern mehrere Museen.
Der Lac de Neuchâtel ist mit dem Murten- und dem Bielersee verbunden und dient somit als Aus-gleichsbecken für die Aare. Der einst etwas höhere Seespiegel reichte bis zu den Randmauern der mächtigen Burganlage.

The Château de Grandson sits enthroned at the northwestern shore of Lake Neuchâtel (French: Lac de Neuchâtel, German: Neuenburgersee) above the historic town of Grandson (447 m above sea level). The castle is one of the largest medieval fortifications in Switzerland, similar to the Château de Chillon, also in the canton of Vaud. The impressive 11th-century building has five round towers and today houses several museums.
Lake Neuchâtel is connected with Lake Murten and Lake Biel-Bienne, and in doing so forms an equalizing reservoir for the river Aar. The water level was higher in the past and reached up to the outer walls of the powerful castle.
