Operation Cherry Blossom has entered the final stages and everything has gone wrong. The BETA have devised a superweapon countermeasure to our attack on the original hive. With this new class of super laser BETA class. Setting aside the petty bickering of moments ago, all the far east forces gather together for a one way, all or nothing run to the battlefield to take down that monster before it destroys humanities last and best hope.

As mankind races to create new weapons to turn the tide in its war against alien invaders, Yuuya, a hot-headed American pilot, is assigned to work with a beautiful but cold Japanese officer on a top-secret project. Can they learn to work together in time to make the weapon that saves us all?
This is another well received addition to the Muv-Luv universe. Time and time again this Universe has pulled me head over heels into a world of humanity facing inhuman foes. The characters and the wars they fight both without and within. I have played through a majority of the Muv-Luv series and side stories. Our boy Yuuya has really come about and became a Hero to people around the world, he did his his namesake and his Mother's hopes proud. Reminds me of a line from another goat-ed story FF14:
"... as death and decay gives way to new life, so too do the memories we share inspire other's to rise to greatness. For we who walk before may lead those who walk after. Your road goes ever on, as does your story. As does your legacy. Such is a hero's lot - to touch the lives of countless others...."
Yuuya really became a hero through and through. I wish he and Takeru could have met after Opperation Cherry Blossom, they really are a lot alike. Then again, maybe that would mean they would butt heads.
I really should play FF14. I used to love playing MMOs but I just don't know if I'd have the time.
@@TheBlueShifting The Yuuya at the end seems very much put together, so I think it will be fine. They are slightly different type of Archetypes of hero, where Takeru fought THE big battle in the shadows where no one will know of or remember him, and was very much spent by the end. Yuuya on the other hand would find it difficult to put down the banner of a living hero, and will have to balance the knife edge of Russian Hero, American ace, and the scion of a Japanese royal house.
As for FF14, the whole package is indeed one of the most memorable stories well worth the effort, it was comfortable to play it as a solo single player experience despite the lack of players in my region, clocking in about 250-350hours to cover the main stories and all major side stories to the conclusion of the original main story in the first five expansions. BUT I will say its a long game and there is ALOOOOOT of buildup and down time between the admittedly very satisfying payoffs. May not make for the best of content outside of some specialized streamers to be honest, but a private playthrough at some point wouldn't be bad for the experience.
Thanks for the ride! The last chapter is definitely high up in the greats in the series. Definitely check out the Total Eclipse Kyoto chapter, it gives alot of insight into Yui's backstory and the Royal Guards' complicated relationship with the rest of Japan. It also shows what a full invasion force from one of the BIG hives is like as opposed to the smaller ones in Alternative.
Oh you actually might have sold me on the idea of a big hive invasion, that would really be something to see...
And that wraps up ATE, an amazing addition to the MLA franchise, congratz lol. That titular Total Eclipse scene with the Sestra units forming a ring of blue flame behind Yuuya is one of the best freaking scene out of this franchise and peak wallpaper material!
Remember when I commented that the final chapter elevates ATE even higher to become one of my all time favorite VNs? The game could have ended after snow maiden, it would've been a sad and depressing ending that leaves me confused and frustrated but it would still be a beautiful and fitting end for our main characters caught in a whirlpool of politics they have no control or say in. The final chapter not only brings back the bloody but hopeful battlefield Muv-Luv is known for, it visualized something we've always known but never got to see in the original MLA. Operation Cherry Blossom was humanity's one last Hell Marry but we only got to see Takeru's persective in the original, and while our boy Takeru and his friends made the ultimate sacrifice to save the world here in ATE we got to see the efforts made and lives lost just in the soviet front to make that ultimate sacrifice even possible, in the depressingly hopeful way only muv-luv games could pull off, and that's just one front! I really hope future game further explore other fronts.
Anyways I'll stop before this turns into a full essay 🤣interested to hear your thoughts on everything once you've collected your thoughts.
Absolutely amazing ending, and pretty much the perfect capstone to Yuuyas story.
I remember so much about the Alternative ending and how terrifying it was that the BETA were shooting at us in space when it was went down but I was so focused on my favorite characters I didn't give it as much thought as I probably should have. To see this perspective was absolutely a treat and well worth the time.
Congratulations on finishing the TE playthrough! That ending, for some reason, evokes a strong feeling since it is tied to Operation Cherry Blossoms in MLA. As long as Yui and Yuuya are alive, that's good enough for me.
Now for some odd reason, I'm beginning to wonder what will be the future of the whole Muv-Luv franchise given there are no major announcements.

Seems there are rumors about more to come, but I think they over extended these last few years and didn't see the payoffs they had hoped for. We will have to see if we can help by showing our support.
Nice to see Yuuya and Inia at least confirmed alive. Wonder if they got to sneak back to Japan or picked up by Sandek. Would be interesting to see where it goes in the full on sequel to Alternative planned after Resonative is out (the final chapter to The Day After).
****POTENTIAL SPOILER***** From snippets of lore for future events we see an image Inia together with her gen-mate Kasumi in UN uniforms, so there's that.

Muv-Luv never disappoints, but this finale really took my heart and soul for a trip and I'll be thinking about it for the rest of my life. Thank you for sharing in the journey with me! I hope the next story is just as engaging.
YES! We are the cult of saving in the name of true love!!... And all the blissfully unaware normies...they will NEVER GET IT!! 😰
So much to possibly say: How Yuuya's path, that initially looked like an insanely dumb choice, was the only one that could bring us to the all important Best possible future. How powerfull it is to have a Soviet perspective with the current real life situation. How every character was important in their own way even the unlikable ones.
I can rant like this for hundreds of pages...CZcams comments are too puny!
But Yui made it trough alive... Thank goodness!
That was actually my biggest surprise, how Aegus didn't really appear in the end. It might have narrativly felt complete to fly with them again, but it makes sense they would be working in different theaters.
But I wouldn't want to change anything, it was an amazing end.
