      Yes. Especially about Shadow of the Drift. There are so few how to videos about that.

    CORRECTION: at 17:25 you talk about multiple engines and having to choose one. THIS IS FALSE! See page 14 of the main rulebook.

    I've played Eclipse a dozen times by now, got all the expasions and finally after about 8 months I get to play it again. This video really helped with remembering some of the rules, smooth sailing for the next game. Great video.

    At around 9:45 you indicate that you can take a discovery token by placing influence or moving a ship through. But the rulebook Q&A says "The Discovery Tiles can only be taken when placing an Influence Disc." Which is correct? Thanks!

    • @optipwr40
      @optipwr40 Před 4 lety

      I agree this has me stumped too. I've seen another tutorial video show this, but I cannot find it in the rules. Page 8 in the instructions under the 'Colony Ships' section says "For each activated Colony Ship, you may place one Population Cube to an empty Population Square in any hex where you have an Influence Disc."

      Follow the rulebook. he made a mistake. (or he is referencing the new edition, i haven't seen those rules)

    • @RicksPoker
      @RicksPoker Před rokem

      You don't earn the discovery tile by moving thru it. You must either: place and influence disk, or move a ship into that system and have it survive to the end of the combat round.
      Warm regards, Rick.

    Very nice vid. I struggle to find anyone willing to play this with me, because it takes at least 1h to explain the rules alone (your vid is 38 mins long, and you talk fast and are not interrupted by questions). Then it takes additional 30mins to setup the board. Now it comes play time, which is 45 mins per player at least. That counts easily to 5-6 hours, and not many people have stamina and concentration to endure this :(

      Hi Mario,
      I agree that the first few games will take longer. But consider:
      Rather than teaching a 6 player game, start off with 2 or 3. (I think the best number for Eclipse is 4.)
      Set up the game before they arrive.
      Play.
      They can help you put away stuff.
      So your first game will take about 3.5 to 4 hours.
      However, on later games, you won't be teaching, and they can help you set up and tear down much quicker. I regularly play Eclipse with 4 players, and setup, game and tear down is 3 to 3.5 hours. (If people know what they are doing and play fast, we might trim 30 minutes off of that time.) I usually set up the game before they arrive, so it is faster for my company.
      This is one of my favourite games!
      Warm regards, Rick.

      @@RicksPoker Hey Rick, I played a lot of Eclipse since my last comment. It is very good game. It started as my favorite game, but in last couple of years I must admit other games took over the throne (like Gaia project, Terraforming Mars, Brass: Birmingham, Great Western Trail, Ark Nova...). It started to slowly slip from the throne when we figured out all the games end in a similar fashion - one last big epic fight in the galactic canter. Maybe it is like that because of the people I play with. Do you have different experience? We tried pacifist tactic, but someone with big guns always comes and destroys everything :) It also heavily relies on the die roll, and we started to move away from luck based games recently as a group. But don't get me wrong, I still enjoy playing it as I love game mechanics and the feel of the game. It is still in my top 10 :) It just ends up on a table as a group choice less often then before...

      Hi Mario.
      My experience will be different from yours because I've bought "Rise of the Ancients", and "Shadows of the Rift". In addition, I've printed out player mats for 3 new races I got from Board Game Geek and one, (the Arachnids), which I made myself. Since the second edition of this game came out, I modified some of my components to make it more like the second edition version. So it is likely that most of my plays have been very different from yours.
      All that said, if someone goes for the Galactic Center, they better be tough, because the meta at our table is that that player needs to be cut back down to size. Typically, the GCDS is taken out with 3 or 4 turns left. So we have a few turns to attack each other after the centre opens up the map so we can all reach each other. (Or reach most others.)
      When I'm playing I want to be able to beat a single Ancient ship on turn 3, and best the GCDS on turn 5 or 6. Now the unique techs in "Rise of the Ancients" likely speed the game up a bit. You could try adding one turn to your games to allow more time for people to fight each other towards the end of the game.
      Glad this great game has gotten some play!
      Warm regards, Rick.
