Honestly, It's refreshing to see spiff get punished for his reckless way he plays games. Even if it was short lived.
I feel like the reckless playing is pretty fun, so there should be an option to disable charles from attacking you in freeroam to explore the map and stuff
Watching ManlyBadassHero's cautious and careful style, then spiff's reckless abandon, is a really fun juxtaposition

Eugene is such a chad
- calls you to a monster infested island simply to help with your museum business
- gives you your main objective immediately
- takes you directly to your most powerful weapon as soon as you leave the first area
- is one of the most efficient and helpful tutorials NPC's, as he gives the most simple and quick explanation of literally almost every mechanic
- gives you encouragement during your first challenge
- gets attacked by the monster, but lives long enough to pass EVEN MORE vital knowledge onto you, and giving you one noble request on protecting his son
- dies an absolute gigachad legend
Literally the best designed NPC I've seen in ages, giving more thought to it. Thank you Spigg for bringing this to my attention, and R.I.P Eugene.

The map on this game is the best feature. Being able to see the lighthouse light when it turns on, to even enemies and scrap on the ground zooming in, even triple A games don't match that level of helpful information Gavin allowed in this game's map.
AAA games make actual drawn maps for worlds while all they had to do was just to have an overhead camera
@@aabry7108 I'm reminded of how poorly Skyrim's overhead map shows paths and points of interest, when you just need good distant models, good prioritizing of what details are important to keep visible, and a good perspective warp. I'm sure the finer details like grass and bushes vanish from above but that's fine-- the fact it can be an accurate representation of the open world without making a whole separate map model with enough foresight and preparation shows it's possible! All from one dude with only a bit of momentary pop-in when you exit map mode back to first person, that's IMPRESSIVE.
Edit: I'm sure askyrim and its engine has restrictions but even more modern stuff doesn't try this kind of thing.

an older game called project i.g.i. actually used that exact map system under the guise of you having acces to some high tech spy sat through an PDA on your arm

Gosh I love how this game is realistic in terms of things like Oh yeah this is our unfriendly neighborhood swamp monster, we call him Barry, and this is our local demon spider train, we call it Charles because we respect it. And then there's these absolutely necessary horror genre things like a cult of demon train simps. And you can also fight back. Like the dev had such a good idea what he was doing and he DELIVERED. Literally nobody cares if the characters talk telepathically and loop endlessly in the same idle animation. The game is dope enough ways to make up for that tenfold, and it was made by just this one dude!!!! Horror game of the year fr

I love that the game knows what it is and that it doesn't take itself too seriously, but it also doesn't use that as an excuse to deliver a sub-par game. You see so many games that have a lot of lore and story and levels but are so broken that they're almost unplayable. This game was made by one person, and I genuinely think it's the best game of the year.
The gameplay is also extremely interesting and not just a direct copy of games used time and time again
i think game of the year is maayyybeee a stretch, but for a one man dev team, yeah its good

Well hes been showing off him building the game from scratch for a while on his CZcams channel
It’s like one month in one year
The sheer amount of polish, even if the artstyle looks rustic, proves that the dev managed his time and scope well.
He just used a fancy engine
But he did a good job
He used pre made assets
This game somehow manages to feel like A. a shitpost, B. a 70s b-movie, and C. a competently designed video game all at the same time.

Im a little bummed that charles isnt able to occassionally lose its legs and connect with the rails as like an extra mechanic. But this game still goes hard
It wouldnt be as good if that actually happened though, cause he would just hunt you in a straight line
To be completely fair, this game is made by one person and I imagine implementing that would have been a very long an arduous process.

@@angela.luntian damn! I'm excited to see what more he works on though! Even just the No Snake Hotel game had phenomenal animations, especially for the huge boa. Snakes are notoriously nightmares to rig and animate in a way that appears natural, so the fact that he's managed to do both a good snake rig and anim AND a really good spider rig and anim makes me insanely excited to see what other creatures he may animate in the future. Not enough people willing to make beasts that aren't just walking on two legs imo

This game is the pinnacle of the open world genre. Running npcs. What more could you want?
Creepy as fuck spider train, who emerges suddenly from trees at terrifying speeds. Which we got so.
It’s annoying me that he decided to go backwards the whole time… but I’m also impressed the game isn’t broken when he does it. It’s rewarding for allowing him to do it but also punishing because it’s not the intended answer and therefore isn’t balanced for
It's really odd him coming from Security breach where it's all jank, all the time. To a game done by one dude that at least for a first time is able to deal with your bullshit.

It is really refreshing to see a game with fall damage, fire damage, barbed wire damage and so on. Every time Spiff took a hit from these I was very excited, it just shows how much effort the developer put into the game.
"Charles's coming music" caught me so off guard i spit out my hot cocoa🤣🤣
I gotta say, this game is great. I love the idea that it's this spider creature that essentially took a train as its shell and become something more than just two things smashed together, and the design overall is quite well done - particularly, I love the train horn that plays around Charles. It's a rather haunting sound with what it signifies even if it's really an unchanged sound overall. There certainly seems to be some deeper lore here but I don't think we're getting all of it yet.
The way this game had so many convenient features and satisfying things is something that can only ever really come out of an indie game

Unironically, this is the most scared ANY horror game has ever left me feeling in YEARS
YESSSSSS! It’s terrifying when you hear Charles’ battle cry thingy while you see Charles FLYING at you. It’s so tense it feels like an action movie
I love how he totally went to all the later quests and areas because he just went in reverse in the beginning. Missed out on the lock picks early on and the other guns and paints, but definitely made for a different experience and tougher Charles

Man this isn’t a horror game, this is just a really cool weird action game but you have a train and the map is exquisite

I had seen other playthroughs of this game and Charles never really scared me but this was the first time Charles brought me genuine fear
The movement in this game is so... it's like the dev saw into my brain and discovered the perfect, most satisfying, most fluid movement ever.

Choo Choo Charles is so good. I'm normally not a fan of scary games, but i was plesantly surprised after watching the gtlive stream and it left me wanting to see more people play it.
Charles himself isnt really scary, but the game _delivers_ on atmosphere and story.

I do like this concept and honestly I love the lore. I do kind of hope we get a future installment (Hopefully with multiplayer and some way to defend ourselves off the train) since this game already seems super fun.
The thing I like about when I'm watching Spiff is that he doesn't have time to waste, he goes straight to the point. Though the game is terrifying he never takes the game seriously and even makes jokes aside. Not much CZcamsrs like him nowadays, also, Choo-choo Charles gotta be one of the best 3D chasing and mission games ever

I remember seeing stuff for this game when it was first announced and it looked really interesting. Really wanna play it myself now
Really impressive for the work of a single person! I will say though, I'm kinda getting tired of the combination of "Long teeth, blood, big smile". But to be fair, making a game takes along time, not really their fault that it's getting old by now.

in the devs defence he got (or made idr) the model like over a year ago where that was basically a trend at the time (and even then I don't think this game is actually trying 100% to be scary)
I thought this game pulled it off well though, especially with the spider legs and the way it actually ACTS in game. (Like fr the super speed scampering towards you at Mach 10 out of Fucking Nowhere is terrifying as shit.)

The game is very impressive for being one developer, but the never ending aggro for enemies, the insanely short distance you can go before you take fall damage, and the fact that charles just clips through everything makes this game seem very frustrating after some time
the train getting spiff at 28 mins actually made me jump and giggle nervously fadsljhkfasd usually these dont get me like that
