This streamed the day I was doing my laundry. The complete whiplash from hearing people talk about Spigg's laundry was hilarious.
What are the chance
The new music in this mode is so incredibly well done. Changing stats to make everything needlessly hard is easy enough, but going through a whole atmosphere change like this is a good bit of work, but it's executed perfectly. The distant metal creaking sounds that so resemble the train horn is absolutely intentional, making you never feel safe. Even when he's not immediately after you, he's out there. He's waiting.

He’s also a speedrunner of the game and had to beat the game while saving Eugene. He’s also done a One Life challenge before, so this wasn’t supremely out of his depth.

For that first final chase, I was on the absolute edge of my seat. The music and the editing of inflating the health bars as well as Spiff's utter silence as he focused yet slowly panicked, jitter clicking at the weapons and quickly switching back and forth, soon realizing that he was running out of options (as described by the terrific narration in the middle of it all), it all just made it so engaging to watch! That was cinema, every aspect made it perfect, and the smash (literal) straight into the next go with the all-in strategy and optimistic music/commentary works in great contrast. I don't know, I just had to leave a comment after seeing that part, I was so amazed to see Spiff basically just deciding he wanted this to feel like a miniature movie! It's incredible!

I love how Spiff thought chat was overreacting/being silly about the Dexerto article until he actually read the title.
I'm guessing the sun bug is something to do with the flicker effect slowly rounding up by accident, making it super bright over a long time. Since it only seems to be the flickering lights that have that problem, and it gets worse the longer you play.
You might be onto something. Hopefully it gets fixed next patch

With how much scrap is needed for the final boss, I'm convinced 100% nightmare mode is probably easier than just booking it straight to the end.

Train game took a year+ to make. So I’m guessing we’re getting news around christmas, with a much later release date.
It's still just one guy making it. Right now hes working with another studio to get the game ported to all consoles.

There is a small glitch/error I wanted to point that I encountered...if you die from the swamp monster, you are able to respawn. Unless it was a glitch when it happened to me, I didn't try to replicate it to be honest. I know there of course might be ways for people to use such a thing to their advantage though lol

@furiouscorgi6614 you do. At the time I wasn't sure if there were any strategies that would be made that could utilize doing this and making it take longer for Charles to respawn. But since then I have taken the time to beat it without utilizing this in any way lol. And let me tell you.....what a headache

I know it's actually quite hard and many people probably can't do this, but it goes to show how much work Spiff has put into practice when he beats it so quickly?? Like that looked LEAGUES easier than the challenge where he didn't use the train at all, and even had some long segments of running that could've been punished by Charles but didn't. I have no idea what they'll add to a (theoretical) harder difficulty, but it's definitely not going to stop Spiff.
Since Spiff loves insane challenges, I made ideas that could make this gamemode even harder:
- NPCs can now be killed by Charles if he spots them while in your area. If he kills an NPC, you can’t get the scrap from their quests.
- Getting any type of damage causes a bleeding effect that darkens your screen further, and slows down your character.
- Charles can now detect you from a radius if you run. Ever thought he’d be able to feel the vibrations from all your running? This also counts with NPCs running too.
- Charles can destroy certain structures. If it’s made out of wood, you’re fucked now.
Aaand, one last one, as the cherry on top - Any time you get attacked by Charles, a part of your map gets scratched off.
(On edit, I’ll specify this. I mean Charles attacking you DIRECTLY. Not while being attacked from the train, but taking raw damage from Charles either attacking you in the wild, or attack you from the train when it doesn’t have any HP.)
Have fun trying to find your way around the map, Spiff.
The wooden structures part probably won't happen because it'd be a pain to code for a single person (definitely doable, but like... It's just one of those things you never get around to starting doing because it sounds so intimidating, even if it's not necessarily as hard as you think it is)

@@Joural0401 it's just a lot of work, not necessarily hard, just very time consuming, you'd have to split each the structure into a separate model as opposed to being a part of the map

spigg really is the kind of guy to think the hardest challenge in a game isn't nearly hard enough for him.
What this game needs is a multiplayer mode, mostly so someone can act as a Eugene, swapping guns out and repairing the train while the first person always has Charles under fire. (Or just swapping paints constantly and forcing you to perish.)
That actually sounds pretty cool. It'd be a fun little challenge, working together to defeat Charles.
But would the multiplayer be like Call of Duty (and other such games) where it draws a random person from around the world and you have to try and communicate with someone you don't know, or would it be like multiplayer on Switch games, where they're people you know and might be using the same device (it'd have to be ported for that, but still)?

The main that enjoys the pain is at it again. I swear Spiff is just the video game version of that one lady that doesn't eat food unless the scoville level is 900,000 or higher.

I love when games have the optional extra difficulty where they throw balance out the window to give a potentially impossible to beat mode, especially when it is indeed beatable, got to keep the Ultra Nightmare alive, you know?

from what i could see during the stream it seed like actually "killing" Charles gets you more time (around 6 to 8 min) and just waiting for him to lose agro and go away gets you less (around 3 min) but i can't be sure unless some actual testing is done.
Can i recommend voices of the void? It's a damn good game and can get you scared and laugh in a second of eachother

I just wanna say whoever did the captions did an impeccable job. I sometimes watch with captions and this video was just chef's kiss. Not just writing captions for what is said but even labeling who is saying it is so freaking good, let alone considering the video is just under an hour long and that same effort is put in throughout the whole vid. Nightmare mode, but every time you complete the game, it sends you back to the start, with a counter for how many times this has happened.
When the counter gets to 10, you get an achievement, and if you want to get higher than 10, you now have to press continue, and it carries on infinitely, now being a contest amongst players for who can get the higher number.
Ok but I gotta ask…. saving Eugene nightmare mode 100% when? Especially if this wasn’t hard enough for ya lmao
