  • Saudi Arabia has restricted the volume of loudspeakers at mosque.
The move has been met with both applause & resentment. But what led to this decision?

In Singapore, loudspeakers at the mosque was completely banned. The Muslim community was awarded 2 frequencies on the radio that cannot be used for anything except the call to prayer. If you want to hear the call to prayer, set your radio and leave it on. It only makes a sound when the call to prayer comes on and then goes quite again. If you don't want to hear it, don't set your radio.

Not only radio frequencies can be used, in North America, we receive Amber Alert on our cellphones when a child is abducted. The same can be used to announce Islamic calls for prayers. When I was in Malaysia on a business trip, I got waken up at 3:00 a.m. by a mosque loudspeaker near my company's sleeping quarters playing Islamic music/sermon! I went, "Are you serious, waking up all the residents at 3 a.m.? Do people even have to work during the day in Malaysia if you get awaken at wee hours every night?"

Ppl criticised me for supporting the restrictions on loud mosque speakers. They are asking me, if really i m a Muslim.
The answer is YES, because the conditions for being a Muslim is Shahada, and not loud speakers. OK?
Moreover, i m of the opinion that if the Holy Prophet himself had been physically alive today, he may have also done the same.
Islam is a religion that has consideration for all and everybody, including non Muslims. We have no right to disturb their sleep and rest.
If a muslim is serious about praying on time, in today's time...there are many ways of doing so, almost all have some type of alarm devices. Use those.
When you are travelling, without a call of reminder, if one can reach airport 3 hours before as reporting time, i don't see why can't do the same for prayers.

Sound pollution is one of the most challenging environmental pollution nowadays. Sounds should be restricted to permissible level at all places whether religious or non-religious. And where there is no necessity of amplifying sound, that should be totally banned. Science says about sound pollution and if you want to make a scientific society then you should keep religion confined in your personal zone or you should be an atheist.

My point is you'd appreciate your religion and it's practices and I'd appreciate mine. And we'll respect each others. But all religious institutions in India are unnecessarily using loud speakers with high decibels. These are things that religious followers introduced, god never asked anyone to do that! Pray peacefully without disturbing anyone and co-exist happily :)

I agree that other religious people do use loud speaker but that is only in some special occasions; not 5 times a day disturbing the tranquility of twilight both morning and evening. They should be sensitive to other religious people's sentiment and right to leave in peace. I wonder why don't they use alarm 5 times a day to go to adhan as we know now a days even a labour on the roadside as a mobile with him.India should ban using adhan during early morning hours and if possible restrict it's usage altogether and allowing only during special occasions with minimal volume.
