  • In this edition of Perspective, we take a closer look at India as a political force in the world. How does the planet's most populous country operate as a geopolitical player, especially amid the conflict in Ukraine? And how does India interact with superpowers, particularly the US? Dr Ashley Tellis, a former senior advisor to the US ambassador to India, describes the relationship between New Delhi and Washington as one of close friends, but not "full allies". He spoke to FRANCE 24's Gavin Lee in Perspective.

      @Madame702 and USA have been donating weapons to Pakistan since the independence (( while banning sell to India for majority of history)) . That forced close ties between India and Soviet just for the balance example USA literally donated f-16 to Pakistan that forced india to make a fleet of sukoi aircrafts . So if USA wants india to downgrade their relationship with russia , then USA should starts with downgrading their relationship with Pakistan .

    We like Americans, we wish america all the peace and prosperity in the world. But, we are not going to ditch an old freind who helped us when Americans were playing with jihadists.India fought 4 wars with pakistan, In 3 of them, pakistan used american weapons against us. I wonder why nobody in america cares about close pak-china ties, isn't pakistan your close ally? We do not agree with what Russians are doing, we are absolutely against this or any war. But we are also not blind to not see the hypocrisy and the double standards. It's not russian weapons on american borders, it's the other way around. USA didn't gave us F-16s, they gave them to pakistan when India's main fighter was mig-21. We know exactly what's going on...
    The problem with state propaganda is that it never works outside the boundaries of the state.

  • @Sam-yt9qj
    @Sam-yt9qj Před 2 měsíci +97

    The word ally is a Western concept and not for India to follow. Also, being an ally of the US implies supporting it in its every endeavor which India does not agree with. There are certainly some fundamental differences between American values and Indian values which clash from time to time. India may want to be a close friend of the US without giving up its independent decision-making power. There is some history behind the US and India's past - the US supported Pakistan in all the wars India fought and one of the prime reasons why the US wants to be closer with India is because of China. There is no genuine love relationship here unlike the Indo-French relationship or Indo-Russia or Indo-Israel relationships. Trust has to be built in order to have a close relationship between these two countries and both the countries ain't there yet.
