The trimmer function is IDEAL for enabling access to cut the moustache hairs immediately below my nostrils. Otherwise that "edge border" prevents access for the blades to those hairs tight to your nostrils. Maybe not everyone has hairs that well hidden, but the feature is IDEAL for those of us who do!
Great review, I have the same observation that Schick does not inform its buyers or potential customers of the features on its razon. Definitely a miss!

That flip up functionality is indeed meant to be used as a trimmer blade. I'm not sure why they don't mention it now, but they did when the Schick Hydro razors first came out.

Hi Jay T! Yeah, I still can't figure out their marketing (or lack of) for that feature - it's super cool. What's really interesting is that they make a huge deal out of that feature over on Amazon, but not their own website. Go figure. Anyways, thanks for watching and commenting - I appreciate it!

In my experience I find that Schicks blades seem to last the longest, and I was shaving everyday....but the refill carts are tough to find here, switched to the old Sensor Excel which is nice(payed a pretty penny for a original metal handle), but i've heard rumours that it's going to be discontinued so I fear I might need to use Skinguard. Nice review.

Hi Christian! Schick had that offer posted awhile ago, so I just checked out their site again and they've given everything a major overhaul and it appears that they've taken the offer down. Which is odd because I would think that if they want people to try some of their new stuff they should still be giving it away for low or no cost - just like Harry's, DSC, Gillette, etc are doing. Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but I'll keep an eye on it and will post back here if I see anything pop up. Thanks!

Hi Eser! That's a GREAT observation and I've never really noticed that I do that - thanks for letting me know :-) I don't have anything against gels, it's shave butters that I struggle with and don't like. I've just always had really good results with creams and they're easier to lather up. This is my absolute favorite: czcams.com/video/9ynVIJLKrbE/video.html Thanks for being here!

    • @ozmobozo
      @ozmobozo Před 3 lety

Best way is to lather a hard soap with a good brush. Foams offer better protection compared to gels and gels are often transparent or invisible so if you leave a box or goatee or any kind of beard style gels would be easier to use. If you have any other questions feel free to ask.

The whole thing is clumsy. Major disappointment. Here's some points:
-There is a lot of play in the head, not even including the pivot function.
-You can't turn the pivot function fully off.
-The head is huge and bulky, pivot mechanism ridiculously large. Blocks your view.
-The flip back feature doesn't stay in place. And the top has a guard so it isn't even blade first.
-The blades are too close together, it WILL be grabby on anything other than a baby's ass.
-Gel pools last a couple of shaves.
-More prone to rust than other cartridge blades.

Hi Supernoob Smith! Sorry for the delay in responding. Completely agree with you on all your points. "Clumsy" is by far the best word I've heard used to describe it. How this thing ever made it out of the concept phase it beyond me. Some cool ideas, but really bad execution. Question: so what razor do you use and recommend? Thanks!

@@NotAHairModel I switched to traditional DE shaving. I use a Merkur Progress, on 3 or 4, fairly aggressive but I only like to shave 2x per week. I had great results with Gillette over the years but left them for all the reasons you heard before. The only functional problems with them is that the head is so big. I grew up on a Sensor Excel and it was very elegant, even more so than most DE razors. Another major problem was that as I grew older my beard got thicker and the cartridges got grabbier.
Another point I'd like to mention with the Gillette was I LOVED the power option. It was a game changer for me. It took me a while to get used to not having that. Seems I'm in the minority, most people think it's a gimmick.....DEFINITELY NOT! At least for me. That's the only thing I really miss. I'm loving the DE world and all it's options.
