I’ve been using Harry’s razor on my head for years
I agree - not sure why they say don’t but it gives a great shave- face head and neck - no issues there either. I use a lot of their products and they are all great. And affordable. Ignore their warning and just have your head. At 2 bucks a blade it’s well worth it!
Thanks for the video. It was fun to watch.

I just bought mine. I also used it to shave my head. Had no issues with my face or head. My blade didn't pop off, but I also agree, I'm surprised it doesn't click in better. This aside I've used several of their products. I really pleased with the quality. I also have looked all over to find the reasoning why the say to not use on your head. Perhaps its because the razor comes loose so easily, to prevent nicking or severe cuts that those of us who prefer the Telly look have experienced.

@Android Martian Great question! I haven’t used the Leaf yet, but it’s on my short list of the next ones to review. I’m super curious to see how it does on my head and how much of a learning curve there is to using it. It’s going to be interesting and hopefully not painful! 😬

@@NotAHairModel used cheap disposable razors and worked perfect, no irritation no cuts no nicks nor rash but used the leaf with feather blades and every single time I got cuts and slides layers off my skin. Maybe I’m not getting the angle or the preparation right or maybe it’s because my blades are some of the sharpest on the market but im going back to disposable. I know most people will tell me to persevere and that DE is better but not for me. It’s very subjective, what works for one person may not work for another. Personally, it’s whatever works best for you. It’s ironic because people switch from disposable / cartridge to DE and im going opposite, haha.

I know this is an old video, but I felt the need to chime in as well. I bought a Harry’s razor set almost two years ago and about 6 months ago cancelled the “auto delivery” of blades feature. I just could never get down when I needed the blades and I got overstocked with. I finally ran out and bought a 4 pack at the store. I have the basic orange handle Harry’s razor. Getting to the point…
I have to say that Harry’s blades deliver the best shave on my head. Consistently smooth, even shave and less frequently do I have to do a quick “second shave” for spots I missed. Usually at that point I know it’s time to change my blade soon.
I also use the HeadBlade and Barbersol razor. The HeadBlade is hit and miss on consistent blade sharpness and the Barbersol razor just had good weight behind it while using it. It has now become a backup to the backup.

  • @David_Padula
    @David_Padula Před 6 měsíci +1

You answered your question yourself, and didn't even realize it...and I found out myself the answer as well a few years ago. While shaving your face, you have control of the handle and blade. If you are shaving at the speed you should be, which is slow strokes, then if the blade "accidently" pops off, you see it and can react immediately without hurting your self/face. Obviously, Harry's is aware of their little design flaw with the blades locking and not popping out, hence why they just say, don't use it on your head. When you shave your head, 99% if not 100% of us do it by feel or by looking into a mirror. Also, we tend to shave our heads, perhaps slightly faster, so as in doing show, imagine you bring your razor up from the back of your head to the top and POP goes the blade, well next thing you know, you've dug that point at the top into your skull...hence how I learned why they don't recommend we shave our heads with it, just our faces. So to combat this, if anyone does use it to shave their head, well, go slow and just be careful. That's how Harry's gets themselves out of the law suit of someone shaving their heads and hurt or cut themselves if their faulty locking mechanism fails and off the blade pops. "We printed it all over our box, website, insert, not recommended to use to shave your head, only your face". Now you know the answer to your question and you answered it yourself. I still use it for my head, just carefully and if I hurt or cut myself...that's on me, not Harry's.

I thought the same, I mean it's just a 5 blade razor. Been using it on my head successfully for about 3 months. Yesterday though I managed to take a large chunk off the side of my head. The bleeding was so bad I've had to have a nurse patch it up. Up until that point I've had only the smallest nicks when shaving. I'm feeling quite reluctant to try it again which is a shame as my next 8 blades despatched this morning. 🙃
I would say though, that they do give plenty of warnings so I don't hold them responsible in the slightest. It's a shame because no other 'off the shelf' razor has come close to giving me such a smooth head.

Hi Dave! Sorry for the delay in responding. Hopefully your head has healed up nicely by now. I can kind of relate because the worst damage I ever did was forgetting that I had a brand new blade loaded and used a little too much pressure on the first stroke - took a nice big chunk (a blades width and about the same length) of skin right off the front center of my "hair line". And as you know, heads bleed... a lot! That's the kind of mistake that so far I've only made once. Anyway, let me know if you've found a decent replacement for the Harry's. Thanks for commenting!

I've been using Harry's on my head for about 5 months no problem. Today I sliced the biggest piece of skin off the back of my head - that has NEVER happened with any other razor. Sure I have had nicks and small cuts before but this was a 3/4 inch by half inch chunk. It bled like I had been shot. Wearing the bandage as we speak. Pretty gun shy now to sweep my head with that razor again.

We weren't involved in any lawsuits, but I did inform Harry's a couple years back about my father-in-law shaving his head with the first-generation razor. He cut a big chunk of skin on the back of his head in the process. My wife had issues with hers as well -- she's been too scared to try out the Flamingo I got her as a result. I have been using the first-generation for a good while, as well as on my head without issue. For my neck and head, it has worked well. So, your mileage may vary. The only thing I can say though yes..it technically shaved fine. However no multi blade cartridge gave me as many bumps and ingrown hairs as Harry’s did. I prefer 1-3 blades max at this point, but back then I didn’t know any better. Still...even a 5 blade gillette fusion doesn’t have the ill effect of Harry’s. Not sure what it is. Advocating its use for a body part it was not designed for opens them up for a lawsuit should a customer have an accident. If you had to choose between Harry’s and the new DSC 4 to shave your head, which would you pick? And why?

    • @NotAHairModel
      @NotAHairModel  Před 3 lety +1

Hi Zak - GREAT question, thanks for asking! Without hesitation I would pick the new DSC 4. As for the why, here are the 3 main reasons:
      1) Harry's crammed 5 blades into the same space as DSC put 4, so there's more space in between each of the 4 blades which allows for better flow through, less clogging and quicker clearing. When comparing the two side by side, it doesn't seem like it would make that big of a difference, but it does for me and my thick hairs.
      2) Continuing to build on reason 1, less clogging means less drag on my scalp, which means I need to make fewer passes which leads to less irritation, redness, rawness, road rash, etc. which gives me better/smoother results
      3) The DSC hardware performs better. When wet and covered in lather, the Harry's handle has slipped and aways feels like it's going to slip out of my hand, which means I can't relax when I'm shaving for fear of removing a chunk of skin and drawing blood - the DSC handle has great grip. Also, the Harry's blades don't attach to the handle as securely.
Hopefully that helps and let me know if you have any more questions!

How'd you compare Harry's to Defender?
I tend to use a razor specifically for head shaving.
I'm currently using Gillette Fusion 5 and there's nothing so special about it (w it's considerable high price in VN). It took me 20 min every shave and not every time I got a close shave.
I did some research and it said go for Mach3 (but the Mach3 is priced similar to Gillette 5 blades), Defender, Harry's, Schick and even DE.
I think I'll give Defender or Harry's a shot. I didn't heard anything about Defender but Harry's: Chinese manufactured, hyped up...

Now you need to try the Venus for "pubic hair" ; probably good for head-shaving.

I really like the shave I get from them.. my only complaint is the blade
is not held onto the handle very well and comes off when I tap it on the sink. Also, their whole
branding to start off was the little underdog against the big giants of the razor industry.. A small tight
company with a good product..What did they do.. sell out of course. To big guys that own Schick. If anyone knows if they kept the small German blade maker and its employees please share..

Hi Bob - thanks for the comment!
I completely agree with you on all points. As far as I can find, it looks like the FTC stepped in and stopped the deal: www.fool.com/investing/2020/02/14/ftc-stops-schick-owner-edgewell-from-buying-harrys.aspx
On their website, Harry's is still bragging about owning the German factory, so it looks like that is still intact.

Not recommended for your face either.....unless you want to look like youve been using a pot scourer on your face

So with the head thing, I didnt realise this was their advice, I only saw the disclaimer after I signed up. I rang them to ask if I needed to be concerned and cancel the order. The person I spoke to said its because of the blade on the back, basically if you aren’t expecting it and you cant see it (because you’re shaving the back of your head) you may run your hand over it and cut yourself. I guess by extension you may nick your ear?
Seems like an exercise in legal box ticking to me.
For the record it seems to shave my head pretty well! 😆

Hi Alexander! That’s really good info to know and a way better answer than I got, so thank you for sharing. I thought it did a great job on my head, too. Thanks for being here and commenting!

I too consider their response to be poor. Of course, people use both general types of safety razors to shave their heads. You typically cannot see the back of your head and this is the same with disposable razors (no matter how many blades) as with double edged razors. One handles the passes and strokes by feel. Plenty of people are head shaves and some use disposable/multiblade, some use double edge, and some use both.

I like Harry’s for head and face shaves. I’ll use Gillette Pure lathered up on a brush with it or some other nice artisan shave soap/cream with a synthetic shave brush. Less mess using a brush and it helps the hair get ready for the shave.
