I'm a chef and have a razor sharp edge on a knife is very important. Blades 1 and 2 looked like they have very similar grinds. They both have one continuous grind which you cut way better, very similar to professional knifes. The 3rd and 4th blade I could see have 2 grinds. They have a bevelled edge like the first 2 but the the have a second smaller bevelled edge which makes cutting less smooth. You see this type of bevel on cheap knives. It means the angle of the edge is steep so there's going to be more friction. What you want is one continuous bevel that's polished smooth for the ultimate blade.

I've used so many blades... and I am a head shaver....
I am constantly amazed at how the Bic Platnums... don't get any love yet... check out any sharpness graph... they are just behind feathers.... but surpass them hands down after the first shave and after... at half the price... not only are they sharp.... they are thicker Than other blades which greatly cuts down on blade chatter and biting... a much more comfortable shave.

After watching your vids I treated myself to a Leaf. Lovely piece of kit, the blades I have already are Derby Extra, from a failed attempt at using a cut throat razer. Not bad, but a bit of a challenge and a few cuts as a result. For my 2nd attempt with the Leaf I treated myself to the Gillette King C. I will never use the Derby again, the Gillette is absolutely superb. I will also be trying the Astra next as they are more cost effective. But the Gillette.. wow.

I know some people have trouble getting some irritation or some serious cuts using feather blades, but when you combine the leaf and feather blades, it’s like a match made in heaven. Seriously my go to for every head shave. And I don’t think I’ll ever switch up that combo for the rest of my life. I get the smoothest and closet shave and most of the time in 2 passes. I’ll go with the grain and then against it and my head is softer then a babies ass. My wife also uses this same combo for her legs and other places and absolutely loves it, and we both have sensitive skin. But I will definitely agree with you that them Astro platinum’s are nice, they were the first blades I ever used when I started using my safety razors for the first time. And if I couldn’t get feather, they would be my second choice. Love the videos and quality! Keep them coming!

I got very mixed results all around, with some of the cheaper, lesser-known blades rivaling popular blades like the Astras or Feathers. But the King blades… damn! I’ve had close shaves before but never anything like this. No nicks or razor burn either. First tried with 3 blades loaded but going against the grain hurt. So went with just 2 blades and it was awesome. Well worth the price of admission.

When I initially tried wet shaving six or seven years ago, I bought a Merkur razor that came with Merkur blades. I tried getting the hang of it but no luck. I didn’t try again until this year. Now that I understand how blade choice is and have used many different brands I can say that the Merkur are among my least favorite. Looking back I can say that those blades were a terrible choice for an aspiring wet shaver. To be fair, it probably wasn’t 100% the blade’s fault but it made it that much harder to adjust.

I prefer the standard one myself. Thorn was a little too aggressive for me.

I just can’t use the twig on my head without cutting myself 4 or 5 times each shave. I look you using it Harry and I feel like my technique isn’t too different to yours but it must be. I’m using Astra platinums at the mo. Any advice from anyone regarding technique would be great. Thank you in advance

hey dude, so i use the same razor & blade u do and i don’t find myself getting cut at all. i personally just use some coconut oil conditioner to shave and make sure not to do any really long strokes. maybe try not to use the exact same technique u see harry doing as he’s been shaving his head for a while and is quite fast with the whole shave. hope this will help a bit :))

@@toooooor I appreciate you replying bro. Yeah I try not to do long strokes and I do have a coconut milk conditioner also. I’ll go back to it for my next shave. I’m quite deflated because I really want it to work for me but I know I have to get the technique right. Cheers again pal

Any word on the Leaf blades? Since we already use their razors.

    • @Baldcafe

I’d put them mid table in this line up. Great start and certainly do the job but if you are a little particular like me then other options might be better 👍

I use Astra as well. They aren’t comfortable after 2 shaves that’s the only downside. They seem to dull quickly. But for $8 for 100 it’s hard to beat.

I use Astra and Derby premium for two uses and using them as double edged (don't break them, use them in DE Safety Razors) and it is grat, the prices for them are still great.

I’d agree but so cheap I just swap for a new one every shave

Do you like the twig better than the normal leaf shaver?

    • @Baldcafe
      @Baldcafe Před 2 lety +1

No, I like them equally but if I forced me to pick one forever... I'd choose the twig

For me, my go to blade is either the Astra or Feather, both are sharp & smooth though the Astra is slightly more smoother.
The Wilkinson Sword, Gillette Perma Sharp, Derby Premium & Shick blades also deserves a shout out, good blades I've tested so far.

I still have plenty of hair, but sometimes I can't wait to be bald. As strange as that sounds..

Why the twig over the leaf? I have the leaf cause You mentioned it in a previous video but now I’m considering the twig.

If you are happy with it then there is no need to change. I began using it for outdoor videos and just kept using it.

For me, yes! Both mach 3 and 5 pro Glide gets dull really fast, i have been trying out a few razor blades the past year now and I'm switching up to a safety razor, tried it once and it felt so good, never ordered one myself tho because I thought it would be expensive (rarely treat myself anything really lol...) 8ts way more expensive using mach 3 and such, also more waste if u care about that :) i just ordered astra premium blades, should arrive on Thursday

I'm pretty sure the Gillette and Astra blades are the same but with different packaging. So Astra blades win because of the price difference.
