I own a few Buck knives which I love. However my EDC for the past 3 years has been a Leatherman Wave. It's on me 24 / 7. Couldn't agree with you more. I work in a busy commercial kitchen and most of its implements get used on a daily basis. Also constant use out side of work. Love it !

I agree 100%. I used to carry a dedicated pocket knife when I was younger. Then I switched to an SAK Climber. Now, as a middle-aged dad I carry a Charge. It's just more useful and worth the extra weight.

I am an old FART, carried pen knifes early in life, once received the SAK Tinker stand along knifes seldom see light of day.
I now prefer to carry the retired SAK ALOX Harvester with a hawkbill Pruner as the 2nd blade, add the awl/saw combo with good bottle opener/screwdriver/scapper/pry tool. However need for scissors sometimes finds me carrying the SAK Field Master in yellow Gadsden, now have scissors with small pen blade but miss pruner blade for all the draw cutting jobs.
The retired Leatherman Juice KF4 rides in a LowePro case on my belt. Again two blade styles, awl/saw and no scissors, but very seldom do I need pliers compared to the other multi tools used throughout the week, month, year.
Not buying the newest, latest, greatest but staying with what works for me (items that seem to get retired due to low demand?)

I agree on all points, but I carry both. I am right handed and carry a Spyderco Para 2 clipped to my right pocket and a Leatherman Wave clipped to my left. I used to carry the multitool in a pouch on my belt next to my phone pouch on my belt. But after rolling around under a sink a few times and the awkward feeling of crushing my gear in the pouches started bugging me and found it fit in the pocket with their pocket clip working quite fine.

I'm old school so like my Dad, Grandfather, and men going back to the stone age it is pocket knife (Victorinox) every time, sometimes I EDC 2 (Compact plus Farmer). I own a small multitool for when I'm out on my mountainbike in case I need to repair/adjust something like brakes, gears, but also I have to carry separate Allen keys and a small multi-size wrench as no multitool has these and even if it did it wouldn't get the job done as often more than one tool has to be used at the same time. If I do repairs or maintenance on my bike at home I use full-sized normal tools from my toolbox.
But most people here in the UK or over there in the US never need a multitool unless they're bikers, fishermen or campers where space and weight are an issue. Maybe a farmer out and about on a farm where it would take too long to get back to the farmhouse to get a tool. I get a feeling that many people nowadays don't carry a box or bag of tools (wrenches, pliers, screwdrivers etc.) in the boot (trunk) of the car and think that a multitool in the glovebox will somehow substitute this. I also have a feeling that most millenials don't have toolboxes or toolbenches at home like people used to, again owning one multitool instead, or a few multitools. Because otherwise you shouldn't really need a multitool more than once in a blue moon, as in the car, at home or in the garden, or at work, you should have proper tools within easy reach. Hell I work in a restaurant where nobody needs tools for their primary job but we still have a box of screwdrivers, files, hammers etc. for any little jobs we can do which don't require tradesmen. Perhaps white collar workers in offices or IT need multitools as their workplaces wouldn't normally have a toolbox? Shop workers in very small shops? Don't know. I do know that my Grandad or Dad would never have considered a multitool as anything other than a novelty, perhaps suitable for little sister first time she moved away from home, because the sons in the family had their own toolboxes from age 10, as did the mother of the family.

Actually, most people that carry multi tools are not carrying it to replace tools or because they don’t have a garage full of tools. It’s carried for convenience, especially when you can’t lug around your garage or you’re too far from your car. As he said in the video, it’s a quick fix. More often than not I’ve used my leather man multiple times a day for quick fixes when I’m not near my tools or in a random place with no tools in sight.

A persons ability to solve all sorts of problems improves exponentially when you have a multitool. If I’m at home, I grab a dedicated tool. If I’m out and a tool is not available, my Arc is appreciated.

My thoughts exactly. I’m currently swinging wildly back and forth but I think the Leatherman Wave I’m carrying (as I type this) is the most reasonable carry for my dad life as it is.

Take care and have a bonzer Christmas and New Year. Craig :)

new listener - a Leatherman Crater is my go-to. Same ease as a tactical folder with two screwdrivers. Not much bigger either. Belt clip and light.
Only complaint I've had is the screwdrivers being hard to open if not used in a while.

Hey bud, did you ever own the Leatherman Blast? It's no longer made but it is still my favorite leatherman I own. I got it 8 years ago from my brother for being a groomsman in his wedding, all of the tools are internal but the pliers are amazing, the tools are great and it's just perfectly broken in. I own a wave, sidekick, skeletool, two juice one each with corkscrew and scissors and the style CS (which is also my favorite keychain tool of all time) love the Blast and leatherman in general. I carry one every day but still have my Ontario RAT 2 on me every single day for YEARS

Since becoming a dad, I also switched away from carrying my pocket knife. I typically carry a Victorinox Explorer Plus, along side a Signature Lite (with my keys). Occasionally, I'll carry my Wave or Swisstool Spirit X, depending on my tasks for the day.

Great video, thanks for sharing your thougts. I personally prefer a multitool. I Love knifes, but i live in Sweden, like the rest of EU we have strikt laws about knifes. A red SAK don't scare anybody, a Leatherman doesn't scare anybody either. So i go with multitools. Beside i am also a homeowner and i use tools much more than knifeblades.

I would like to carry a multi tool with me because just like in macgyver his only arsenal is swiss army knife, duct tape, paper clips, and bobby pins. Not only that to but when ever you go backpacking or for the regular edc you always want to have a items to serve a multitude of purposes. and that's why I would carry a multitool and its suitable for my own adaptations.

Not picking at you just curious. Why not carry both? On normal pants there are 4 pockets and lots of belt space. There are plenty of good, serviceable knives that are affordable. I carry a pocket clip folder in my right front pocket and a Leatherman Wave on a belt loop on my left side and a SAK Farmer model in my left front pocket. I don't feel weighted down or encumbered at all.

That is not a pocketknife, it's just a single bladed piece of imitation knife, exactly like a thousand others out there. You may as well carry a Leatherman.
When you learn what a real pocketknife is, then you can say you carry a Leatherman instead of a pocketknife.
