EDC (Everyday Carry) is a topic that fascinates a lot of people. Having the gear on you every single day that you will likely either use regularly, or don't ever want to be caught without. One piece of kit that I've always loved having on me is a multitool. In this video I talk a little bit about EDC Multitool Theory, as well as what goes into a good everyday carry multitool. It's no surprise that the Leatherman Skeletool has been a staple of my EDC for a decade, and it still has yet to be dethroned, for the reasons I cover in this vid.

Mike always apologizes for the rambling, but honestly, we're here for it.
Agreed
Yes we are. One of the things we love about Mike is the “rambling”. Lol
Corrrrreeect
Purchased Skeletool few years back after watching your video and carried it ever since. Wishing for Leatherman and LLoD collaboration multi tool!
Mike, what I like so much about your channel, is that you are covering many different things from a house build, to EDC, to cars/camping, and I love the fact that you are interested in more, like designing clothes, tools, etc. I have learned some really cool things from you in all of those different areas. Keep it coming as life is about growing and changing!
Yup. Best channel ever!!
Good to be THAT GUY Mike…
There’s usually not a single video on this channel that I don’t watch all the way through. My interests heavily align with yours and on the odd occasion they don’t, I stick around to learn something new and be entertained. Keep doing what you do dude 👌🏽
What can i say, the man was in need of a tool! enjoy Mike, and I agree with you. I really love the signal for somethings, but it hasn't replaced my skeletool as a EDC.
You are a national treasure
With the Knipex part, like you said, it really depends on the individual. I deal with MC/conduit regularly, so having pliers with better grip than what a standard multi offers is important to me. Now if you could get Knipex/Channellock to partner with an EDC/Multitool designer, you'd have my attention...
Snap on came out with some new needle nose that has filled a spot in my bag. Knipex do make the best pliers hands down.
I've had the same skeletool for about 5 years, I finally caved into trying one after watching you for a while. There have been many times that I thought I lost it over the years, and about 2 weeks ago it finally happened for real. Ive been holding out on buying a new one in hopes it turns up again.
Hope it shows up somewhere!
Check the seatbelt down low by the floor - every once and a while the pocket clip gets stuck on the belt and it takes a ride down there haha
@LastLineOfDefense Sure would be nice, but it'll be a spare by that time.
@@justanother2day I've temporarily lost a few Olights that way, unfortunately not the case this time.
I’ve been carrying the skeletool since the start of the pandemic because of you
Hope it's treated you well!
Yeah Mike… I bought a Skeletool CX because of you…. Then I bought a second one for my brother the day after. This was probably 4-5 years ago maybe…. Great to see your channel and life evolve over time. Keep up the hard work and enjoy the time with your family as much as possible. Take care!
Love this video! And I love that I got a Skeletool 5 years ago. Currently I have 2 of them. I also have 20ish other multi tools. Mostly keep them in other kits or in different trucks I drive. Always a pleasure Mike!
Congrats on the new house!!!
You are spot on with this video, I have carried the Skeletool about 10 years. I have tried several other combos, but always come back to the Skeletool.
My dairy farmer brother in law used to make so much fun of me over my leatherman wave. He he bets I don’t use half of the tools on it. One year I got fed up with hearing it and bought him one for Christmas. I never really heard much about it until he lost it one day. Then he realized how much he was using it!!! Love the content, keep up the good work!
You design a multi tool and I’m all in!! Good video bud! Spend all the time you can with that kiddo they grow so fast! And change even faster.
Check out Skeletool mod videos. Guys are making their Skeletools able to use T-shank saws, making awls for the bit driver, etc. The Skeletool can be made into a bad ass little tool
Yep, got a Skeletool a couple years ago thanks to you and carry it all the time. It comes in handy. Also got one for my son-in-law.
Great video. Love hearing your thoughts on different pieces of gear. Especially multi tools due to your passion regarding them.
Great video Mike. Feels like a classic LLOD video. Thanks!
Mike, keep doing what your doing. I've been watching you for a few years now and have enjoyed all the various content you have put out. I just recently purchased the vertx delta stretch pants(the price was a hard pill to swallow), but I absolutely love them! I also purchased a couple of your flannels which are extremely comfortable and fit well. Keep up the great work!
I always play your videos while I’m at work welding it’s like your here lacing me up with information I otherwise wouldn’t have know about in terms of particular products/gear so thanks for rambling I’m here for it
Love the variety of your vids mike, keep up the good work.
I was EDCing a Charge, then a Signal and changed to Skeletool after watching a few of your videos, it has been my main EDC tool ever since.
Mike, I really enjoy the variety you bring to your videos - super multi-dimensional! You keep doing you and I will keep watching. Congrats on the new baby and house!
ive had multiple leathermans over the years and i almost bought a skeletool because of you, years ago. what i DID buy... was your flannel and the vertx pants as well. damn glad i did. now just awaiting the right colors to come back in stock.
Mike love the rambling videos. I have been enjoying your wide variety of content for a few years now. Thank you for your insight and experience on the products you edc and have field tested. I picked up a skeletool the other month and never realized I would use it so much. Grew up with a knife in my pocket and Swiss Army knife when out and about. Looking forward to snagging some holsters from you when you get everything back up and running. You coming out with some more Vertx colab? I think of you did a bag similar to the Gamut it would be badass. No need to apologize for being “lazy”, enjoy your family and your new house. God bless and take care my friend.
You’re just a good guy and that is truly the number one reason why I watch your videos. Look forward to seeing your collab with hopefully leatherman!!!
Keep doing random videos. Not every video is up my alley, but I always watch them and enjoy them. Variety keeps it fresh. All the best to you and the fam.
Oh and I bought one of the flannels you designed. I bought a holster a long time ago. I love them both and cant wait for future designs.
Thanks for the content & congrats on house completion! Merry Christmas!
Nice flannel dude!
Appreciate it!
You're %100 correct. I have two skelatools and can't seem to find anything to replace it. Just seems to fit all my needs. So I've actually just come to realize the skelatool is the best for me. Thanks for loving is so much to make me want to buy it 😂
Mike, you didn't ramble at all. I like the in depth information you had on the various multi-tools. I don't have a Leatherman skeletool, but my interest in getting one was definitely peaked after watching this video. Thanks again for the great info.
Good video! I have carried my Skeletool CX for probably 5 years now. Have several other multi tools and who knows how many knives but the CX is the one clipped in my pocket 😎✌️
I love everything that you do Mike, keep at it, whatever form that takes ill watch. Also, your son is going to have an epic childhood it will be fun watching you all go on awesome adventures.
I try to catch every one of these vids! Great to see things are “slowing” down a bit for the family, can’t wait to see if you get a perfect multi tool to market. I struggle to carry a ton of stuff and constantly have to go to my backpack for “tools” outside of my knife during the day.
Definitely here for the rambling! Always enjoy it 👍
Yay a Rambling Mike Video.
Yes you got me to buy a Skeletool, I was trying to get the same Damascus blade but had no luck.
Hey that’s the color of the flannel I bought, even though I can only wear it about 3 months out of the year or if I travel somewhere on the mainland
I enjoy the variety of topics you cover on your channel!
I'll watch whatever you put out! Thanks Mike for the content!
I also bought the Skeletool due to you and Talon !!! I also agree 10000% with yyou on ALL the subjects you spoke of as far as other multitool companies and different kinds/models out there. I feel the Leatherman Signal is a lil over kill for "EDC" ... I'll def be sticking with the Skeletool. As always congrats to you and Ashley on Lil Mans arrival and yalls new amazing home !!! Stay Safe brother -
-Jason-
You are a huge motivation man, thanks for what you do.
Great stuff Mike, I too carry the Skeletool every day and use it way more than any tool I own.
Been wanting that green and topo leather man for awhile now, I think this video finally pushed me over the edge I’m ordering one today!
Some people just have that magnetic, likable personality.
Mike I’ve been watching you for years and I finally caved and got a skeletool and I totally agree it’s top tier EDC item it complete replaced my knife
You mentioned at the end of your video: what would your viewers like to see. As it might not be “popular” I’m very interested to hear how your life as an outdoorsman and as an EDC resource to others has changed after having your children. It’s a constant thought for me as I prepare for the future and everyday scenarios. Thanks
Mike, you’re right on about the P2. I’d love to see a P2 with the same pliers, a P4 blade, thinner with less filler tools. I’d love a secret bit holder too.
Great video Mike I always learn something new 😎👏🏾👍🏾
Hey Mike
Proud of you . Been watching your channel from your range days . Wow you have grown your name into a huge way . Again great job sir
You inspired almost my entire edc. You actually inspired TO edc. Can’t thank you enough.
Bro I bought my skeletool a couple years ago after watching your video and have loved it ever since! Thanks for your honest opinion here!
You should make a series of the dad life style
I just became a dad too and think it would be a hit!
Man Ive been subscribed since 25k, just gets better.
Mike idk what it is but im all in for all your video's. I just enjoy when you upload and like someone else said i watch all the way through.
Appreciate it man!
I had the very first Gerber multi tool that came out when I was a kid... I'm 56 now. Nowadays I carry one of 3 Leatherman tools depending on my plans for the day. A MUT for shooting outings, a signal, with bit kit when out on my dirt bike and a P4 I keep in my truck... Now looks like I may need to check out the skeletool. I run into the same issues in that I've never found the holy grail of multi tools.
Mike got me into EDC , My Olight flashlight , flipside wallet and my Leatherman wingman is all because of llod . I chose the wingman because of its smaller more pocket friendly size and spring loaded pliers. We all would love to see a "LLOD" edition Leatherman multi tool
The scenario you described, noticing a loose cabinet door and fixing it on the spot. That is exactly what just happened to me a few days ago (just moved into a new house)
Needless to say the cabinet is still loose and this video is what reminded me 😅
I keep a multi in my center console. I think you just convinced me to EDC it instead!
This is my favorite video of yours man! Great one. I coincidentally carry a skeletool cx in my left lower pocket every day. Got it for 60 bucks at a knife shop. I also have the signal and charge+g10. They're excellent but I'm with you on the damn skeletool.
If Leatherman ever jumps onboard with Mike, we need and Od Green/Orange LLOD special edition skeletool. Put me down for 3 orders please.
I must say after watching your video several years ago about the Skeletoll, I went out and bought one.. I hung up my Gerber and Microtech and use it almost everyday, also converted several coworkers to do the same!!! Leatherman owes you some commissions…
Mike, when you are “the guy” who always has the tool needed, or the band-aid guy, or whatever…you are setting the examples that may motivate someone else to be better equipped to help others at another time and place.
~ ~ “Ol’ Scooter” Down In East Texas
I won’t Cary a multi tool without a saw, my friend was busting a trail in the woods and we got high centered on a group of scrap trees and bushes. I was able to cut enough with my multi tool saw to get the wheels down. Ive use the saw a lot even on projects that I should have walked to the garage and grabbed a real saw 👍😁👍
Keep doing what your doing, been watching for a while and enjoyed watching the change! Keep killing the videos. I look forward to any and all video. haters going to hate, but your rockin it
I switched to the Free p4 about 3 years ago, and I love it. Mine has a clip, though, so I'm surprised yours didn't have one. It is large, so if you're willing to give up a couple of tools, check out the Free p2. 🤘🤙✌️
Hey Mike, intriguing video. I just recently started carrying a knife and a Leatherman multi tool. I believe it is the Skelotor. It was a random purchase at a hardware store one day when I saw it thought it might be handy to keep in the center consul of the rig. In regards to being that guy. my outlook on that is, it’s just being a good human; be well prepared, well, trained and help those who you can. But I grew up in a very outdoorsy, family, hunting fishing camping lots of camping boating, and usually around quite a bit. A Motorsports never felt it necessary to carry a knife or a multi tool even when the Leathermans first came out and everybody had one I’ve always covered toolbox, I still do but having one on my person is very convenient of not have to do like you said, and going patch a tool from the toolbox for something minor and quick.
OK I went out and looked in the center consul of the jeep. The Leatherman multi tool I have is a Signal. I can honestly say I’ve taken out and looked at it maybe a handful of times and I’ve never used it. My EDC is a Leatherman Free multi knife. That said also in the center console, I have a bunch of Swiss Army knives, some original Leatherman micro tools, and one original Leatherman full size tool. Most of this is handed down from relatives, which is kind of accumulated in the console of the rig when I went full-time.
I still have my Leatherman Wave I bought in 2009. Love it. I have a Wave+ I keep on my gun belt now, too. I might get a Mutt for that slot though
Great video! If you design a better skeletool i'll buy it and tell everyone I know that would want one. It seems like it would be possible to massively increase the amount of tools while staying the same size. Weight might have to go up a bit since it will be more robust, but if the size is the same, then it will be a bigger winner than the skeletool. For example, I carry the tiny vicotinox in addition to the skeletool just for the scissors. Would be nice to get rid of that tiny tool and integrate that in the skeletool.
Gerber Lockdown Pry is a great prybar tool. I love mine. It checks all the boxes minus a plyer.
HD has a Crescent 4 1/2" tongue and groove pliers for $10. My friend won't use anything smaller than the Wave because he constantly needs larger pliers (diesel tech). I find that if I'm actually using the pliers for bolts, I like something bigger than the Skeletool pliers, but they work fine for needle nose pliers tasks. I switched to the Crescent pliers and a LM C33T and rarely miss my wire cutters or scissors... gave up on a MT saw when I actually tried using a sub 4" saw versus a 7-10"+ folding saw (although I don't do a lot of wood finishing work with a MT). If I actually need to use my MT, I find the old Juice S2 much more comfortable for longer or heavier duty tasks than my Signal or Skeletool. Favorite medium size MT is the Vic Spirit, but I often carry the Curl. Unfortunately, the Curl's pocket clip lets the MT slide around on the pocket instead of sticking in one place.
I initially found your channel Mike when you did a promo for the Leatherman Free and that lead me to some other great guys like Mike Glover, Talon, and John Lovell. Of course I bought a Free and a Skelatool too! Love the rambling content, it’s fine w your viewers. I would love for you to design a multi-tool or flashlight and I also like that your content is all over the place. The house building videos were awesome!
Don't stop! Whinners will be whinners. You do good work keep that up and always keep family number one and the priority. The people here will understand.
We thank you Mike! Thank you for creating videos on things we like! Also... I liked this video! 😆
A Milwaukee Fastback 6 in 1 is good along with a Knipex 4" plier. I edc a Gerber MP600 in a Clip&carry sheath. The choice for me depends on the weather. If I'm wearing a jacket then i have more pockets to carry let's say a larger flashlight, a prytool, etc. In warmer weather I'm carrying as less as possible. And i try to preanticapate what tasks I'll encounter during my day. Really enjoyed your video. Thanks.
A good EDC to carry is the Leatherman Wave + . I carry a Leatherman Surge most of the time. Amazing tool with so many tools. If I'm going out I carry the Wave + in my pocket with the clip. Plus, both have wire cutter,Strippers and cripes. The Surge has a blade exchanger, which comes in handy many different tools for that..
I’m one of the thousand that owns a Skeletool because of you. On me daily and would buy one in a heart beat that you would design . Been carrying mine for four years now.
I’m going to subscribe not because I’m totally interested in the contact you make but you seem like a humble, honest guy that is going to tell the truth
Tightening things at other people's houses is such an underrated comment 😂 I do it all the time. Thanks for getting me on the skeletool gang. I am also the guy everyone goes to for a knife, bottle opener, pen, etc
haha yes! im always doing this and its the best haha
The diversity and rambling of the channel is what keeps me here.
In all honesty I'm not a car guy or build your own house person, but still love those videos as well.
Keep it up!
I have been thinking about the Leatherman Crunch. It's a little big and not as streamlined but it has vice grip pliers which are really handy. I would love to see them make a smaller version.
Free P4 all day! Love the magnets and it’s fun to play with. My only complaint is that the pocket clip is oriented upside down. When you pull the tool out you have to flip it around to open one-handed. Big oversight in my opinion.
I appreciate you Mike, thanks for sharing.
You're just That Guy..! Nice chat mate. Cheers cobber.!
Try the SOG PowerAcess, it's a great little all around tool, just an oz heavier than the Skeletool. I like that you can flip it open like a butterfly knife for pliers, but all the tools are on the outside like the Leatherman Free MT. Another option is the SOG PowerPint if want something smaller and lighter.
This video actually couldn’t have come at a better time. I was just researching a multi tool to start carrying. Decision made.
As expected, great message. I do respect this consistency including links as stated. My pet peeve is videos stating the subject will be linked below but isn’t. These same producers often complain about criticism from viewers. How can a CZcams producer criticize followers? They should ignore crazies and respect constructive criticism.
I have a Leatherman Rebar and Gerber MP600. Just ordered a black and tan Skeletool. Hope I like it.
Always love the rambling
Skeletool is my dress tool, shirt and tie / jacket or suit. Wave or Free P4 for boots or sneakers days. Skeletool is light enough for dress clothes and keeps one equipped.
I love my skeletool at home - actually bought it a few years ago after a Mike review. Can’t carry it in public in the UK because of the stupid knife laws, so have to swap it out for a SAK when I go out. The house looks very cool Mike. 👍🏻
I've determined that having two of the same Leatherman has been beneficial. I've had to send in one of the tools for warranty work, and having a backup while one is gone comes in clutch.
So many people have good things to say about the Leatherman warranty that it makes me think that Leatherman quality is not what it used to be. I prefer the softer steel that the Victorinox's have becasue they bend instead of break. I have broken 3 Leathermans but have never broken a Victorinox and have been carrying a Victorinox 4 times as long
@@waholoopesorry74 I agree, I was shocked when/how my blade broke. If it weren't for the warranty, I probably would have jumped to another brand.
@@loafboi_ one is never enough. I have one that I carry and then the same in my vehicles.
Two is one, haha.
Please bring back more firearm content. Regardless, love what you're putting down and will keep watching and supporting MIke!
A tool with some sort of cutters, scrapers, screwers, pokers, pryers, grippers and a possibly a file will cover 99% of daily tasks for average person (and a flashlight is super handy). I use a tweezers a lot and most multitools don't have one so I can't give up my keychain SAK yet (which is far more useful than most people would think). While it has its shortcomings, I quite like my sog powerpint... Also manufacturers should also come up with more bladeless tsa compatible small multitools for travel.
I’m getting there to be ‘that guy’ because you Mike and thanks for it!
I, personally, would love to see the design you come up with for a multi-tool. I sincerly hope you get the oppportunity to work with Gerber or Leatherman. I think they'd stand to gain a lot from your ideas. Your videos are inspiring and I look forward to learning about your points of view.
I carry a leatherman multi-tool because of you. It is my most used EDC item.
Saw you brother rockin in that new Vertx ad in my email!
I can vouch for the fact that I have bought and carry skeletools because of your videos!
One example (of too many to type out here) I was glad that I had a multitool: Riding my bike one day, went over a highway bridge and a downed tree laid across the sidewalk ahead. The thinner branches crossed over the sidewalk, that is, so I take out my pliers multitool and clip off all the branches, threw them in the woods and moved on. Everyone else would not bother doing anything about it, they'd just ride around it and basically nothing would get done about it. Again, that is one of MANY examples of why it's great to have multitools in the pocket.
Another time a pitbull ran up on me while I was at a STOP sign on my mountain bike. The dog barked, stood there, then ran home when the owner yelled at him. At that time I had my multitool on me which could be used to open the blade with one hand. Thankfully that pitbull was not vicious but IF it was and chomped on my arm, I could use a blade to _inspire_ it to let go. These clueless, complacent numbskulls who criticize us for carrying multitools, blades or other selfdefense tools, they're the same types who are professional victims. Really. They're just victims waiting to happen, and they won't learn their lesson until it's too late. By that time, they'll be dead and won't be able to say how much they regret not preparing beforehand. 🤦♂️🤷♂️😐 Ignorant is ignorant. They have to learn in their own, sadly.
Ive purchased 2 skeletools because of you. Definitely want to see you work with a company to design the perfect EDC tool.
You should look into the Leatherman Arc when it comes out. Might be a little big but fixes almost everything wrong with the free p4.
Took me 2 visits but I watched/enjoyed the video, my only ask for your pants is to make a shorts version if possible 😂 and good luck with the multitool project. Might hold off on getting the skeletool and see if that gains traction 🤞
Make videos about things your passionate about. It comes through. I'd love to see house updates as things progress. But keep doing cars, trucks, prepping, camping, gear, etc. I think most people here just appreciate you and your opinions as an honest man.
