    *I use the GoPro to film aircraft instruments on maintenance engine runs. **do7.pl/GoPro4** Works great. Got the clamp accessory and bigger battery pack. Video is nice and steady and customers really like having real-time data on video that we can stop at any time to check data, not to mention it is a great tool to CYA if something goes wrong.*

    What happens with the sony as50? Does it also need the extra flat lens casing? I am a bit confused cause I thought it was sold together with the camera already

    Hi,
    Thank you for nice reviews.
    I’m trying to decide between GoPro hero session and Sony HDR AS50, any comment you could provide will be highly appreciated.
    Thank :)

    Thank you Mark. You make really great reviews.
    You always says that it is hard to get a good photo with Sony since it has button on the back side. BUT if we set delay in the menu SETUP->SELF (e.g. 2 sec, it isn't so much) the problem goes away.

    +MarkHawkCam Just wanna say this is the first video I've ever seen by you, I was looking into getting a Hero Session and was looking for reviews, and I wanna say great job on this comparison! you really did a great job at detailing all the possible situations of these cameras and it really helped me as a possible buyer (which I assume is the main target audience of this video) and just keep doing what you're doing because you're doing a great job at it!
    On another note, how do you think the Sony cam would do rugged wise, I know a lot of the applications I will probably be using an action cam for are not the most delicate sports/activities and that's a big deal for me, any thoughts on it would be greatly appreciated!

    • @MarkHawkCam
      @MarkHawkCam  Před 8 lety

      +Adam Pender I've used the same AS200V for almost a year now and put it through a lot of action without a case on. It's held up just fine. I have issues with small aspects of it but none of those getting in the way of being a reliable camera. If you film with default waterproof case from time to time, should hold up fine. Lens collects finger prints little easier then other cameras but again, minor issue.

    Great Review!! Loved it! Very detailed.
    I`m planning a cruise trip in couple months, so I`m looking for a waterproof camera first of all cuz we are going to do scuba diving etc. It looks like Sony is not the best choice with underwater shots but it`s so much better in general!! what would you suggest Mark?

    • @MarkHawkCam
      @MarkHawkCam  Před 8 lety

      +Anastasiia Greca If you liked the Sony all you need is the MPKAS3 Flat lens case and you are good to go. You can also set the scene to underwater. I'd suggest picking up a anti fog tablet for safe measure (GoPro, Sony, or third party ones are fine). Here is a link to the Dive case since they can sometimes be a paint to locate because of it's name:

    Sony for me is better, brighter colors and first for me because image stabilization this is very important for embedded camera, many people want the gopro because they only know it as a brand while they are not necessarily better everywhere , Sony is a value! this is their first job (camera and optical), i like GoPro session just for size, if Sony releases tomorrow a camera like HDR200v with the size of the session I would really overwhelmed , thank you for the really interesting test

      Sony put out 2 new cameras in Japan last week. FDR-X3000 and HDR-AS300. They also put out the AS50 earlier this year. Also the Sony AZ is SUPER small. I love it. Quality isn't as good as the AS200 though but the size! So tiny and under supported. Really like that camera.

      @petitrossignol Před 8 lety

      Thank you for your answer, I knew there was new mordele is good news thank you! I'll wait to replace my HDR AS100V to pass on the AS300 that has a better stability and a smoother picture, I'm going to see the x3000 but much too expensive.

    hey Mark..thanks for the awesome video. i am so confuse right now. I'm using the camera not for the adventurous activities, just for my travel log. so which camera you cam suggest me? Sony or Gopro? after looking at your video i think Sony is better and color is good. so what do you think, from your own opinion..help me :)

    • @MarkHawkCam
      @MarkHawkCam  Před 8 lety

      +dilla deal Depends on what you plan on covering in your vlog. I think both would serve you fine for the most part. The Sony side of cameras offers a lot of features like stabilization and really good audio. One area it might come up short on is up close focus. It shouldn't be too bad though, provided it's slightly at arms length or longer. Mounting isn't as convenient but with a GoPro to sony adapter (link in more info section below video) you should be set in most situations. You'll also have swappable batteries which might be good on the go. The GoPro will offer convenience and solid quality. You'll rarely find yourself in a situation where you forgot something at home or are limited in what you can do with the camera thanks to it's all in one built design. There is also features like 1440p filming mode which will help you capture more information at the top and bottom of the frame which could be useful for your travels. While the power will last you a while, you are looking at 2 hour filming or 4-7 hours of on and off filming. You can easily pick up a battery backup from Jackery though for $20-40 bucks and charge the camera while you're not using it between shots. Hope this helps :D

    • @dillasuhairi
      @dillasuhairi Před 8 lety

      Thanks Mark for the info. Gopro battery last for 2 hours, how bout sony?i still can't decide..both are great! Huhuu

    • @MarkHawkCam
      @MarkHawkCam  Před 8 lety

      Depends on the modes. Basically looking at around 2 hours if you just did straight recording. Sony's is a little weaker but not by much. It's one downside compared to GoPro is it's Idle "non recording" moments seep the same amount of power as if it was filming. Can lead to a lot of times where you get closer to 1:45 instead of 2 hours.

      Steadyshot is your best option. I haven't had much luck but someone suggested this recently.
      I use "Corel Video Studio Pro X8 Ultimate" to edit and output 100Mbps files of the FDR X1000 - also I correct the lens distortion with this software which looks like this: actioncam.nicmd.de/lensedistortion.jpg

      +MarkHawkCam thanks for a quick response...helps a lot...btw would you consider reviewing budget action csmeras like sjcam or gitup...iam currently picking betwren sony as200 and sjcam m20 cause I think every few months these 200$ cams are getting dangerously close to sony and gopro...your thoughts?

    • @MarkHawkCam
      @MarkHawkCam  Před 8 lety

      I think this year you are going to see some great heavy hitters put out some newer cameras. Hoping to do a budget face off. It's something I've wanted to do but it's so many cameras, time, and $ to gather them all. Hopefully I'll have something in time soon.

    • @notmedude
      @notmedude Před 8 lety

      I know I will hate myself for buying a new camera when something awesome is going to be released in couple of months after that with the similar price. I can smell the new action cams behind the corner man. There is no way that in next 6 months we will not see a good new action cam.

    why rec 30fps ?

    • @MarkHawkCam
      @MarkHawkCam  Před 8 lety

      +Klisiu_Games It's a good baseline to start at and is available across different resolutions. Most cameras perform best at 30fps and it's a NTSC standard here in the States. So as we switch between modes 30fps is normally a constant and what the manufacturer designs to showcase the camera with. Switching to 60fps can't be done in terms of the CZcams player on the fly but there are sections where we will slow 60fps footage down to playback at 30fps (50% speed) or run it at normal speed where it merges the 60fps frames to play in a 30fps timeline. Don't think I did it in this video though but we did it for the slow motion parts.

      +Xing Yuehao Actually, in my country Go Pro is more expensive than Sony (for about 35$) and harder to find at stores. Also, AFAIK, Go Pro lacks of tripod mount by default, while Sony doesn't. Moreover, Sony provides slightly higher video bitrate and more clean stereo sound. For me it's obvious which one to buy.
