- We hammock camped on Fires Creek just upstream of the bridge on Little Fires Creek Road and the confluence of Little Fires Creek. This is located in Fires Creek Wildlife Management Area in the Nantahala National Forest in Clay County, North Carolina. This is some of the prettiest mountain water I’ve ever seen and I’ve been wanting to get this place on video for many years. There is unbelievable beauty around every bend of the creek. Thick rhododendron groves are laced with lush moss and ferns and the sound of rushing water over rocks can be heard everywhere. This area is a designated black bear sanctuary and Fires Creek is a designated trout stream. Untamed beauty, ancient vibes, wild mountains. This is southwestern North Carolina at its finest.
