  • We left the house on Friday afternoon and drove over to Chattahoochee River Road north of Helen, Georgia. Set up camp beside Vandiver Branch in the dark on Friday night. The next morning we took our time making breakfast and coffee over the campfire and headed out around 9:30. Continuing up Chattahoochee River Road, we stopped to check out the upper Chattahoochee River and a few waterfalls along the way. Our plan was to ride Trey Mountain and find a spot to camp over there on Saturday night but most of the gates were locked on these roads so after a few hours of hitting dead ends, we decided to head west. We got to Coopers Creek Wildlife Management Area a little bit after lunch and started riding FSRs we hadn’t been down. We stopped at every decent campsite we came across but didn’t settle. At one of these spots we found a snake cruising around in the unseasonable warmth of this February afternoon. I ran into a buddy from work out fly fishing shortly thereafter and shot the bull with him and his brother for a few minutes. Finally at around 4:30 we found the perfect spot. We rounded a bend in the forest service road and on the left was a really nice looking clear spot in a creek bottom. I found a rough little trail that took us through some deep mud holes to the flat spot by the creek. We quickly set up camp and started exploring the creek. There was an awesome waterfall a hundred yards down stream from where we were set up and we climbed to the bottom to get a better view and hung out down there for at least an hour. We cooked cheddar jalapeño dogs over the fire and roasted marshmallows for desert before calling it a night. Overall, it was a good weather weekend, we found great camping spots, saw some wildlife, found some waterfalls that you won’t find on Google Maps, and just had a blast exploring a little bit more of the Chattahoochee National Forest and the mountains of north Georgia. Thanks for watching 💯👍

Thanks, Caleb and Noah, for showing us how simple and fun camping can be! Glad you share here the beautiful water falls that go unnoticed unless you go exploring! Love the sound of that rushing water.

I would suggest scrolling around on Google Maps, it shouldn’t take you too long to find it.

most WMAs and state/national forests have primitive dispersed campsites. it's public land. your land! you don't need permit for sites like this. no fees. just make sure you don't light a fire if there is a burn ban.

There’s no rules or regulations. Just find a forest service road and go for it. It’s free.
