Knives Out Movie Description:
The circumstances surrounding the death of crime novelist Harlan Thrombey are mysterious, but there's one thing that renowned Detective Benoit Blanc knows for sure -- everyone in the wildly dysfunctional Thrombey family is a suspect. Now, Blanc must sift through a web of lies and red herrings to uncover the truth.
Knives Out is a 2019 American mystery film written and directed by Rian Johnson and produced by Johnson and Ram Bergman. It follows a master detective, Benoit Blanc, investigating the death of the patriarch of a wealthy, dysfunctional family. The ensemble cast includes Daniel Craig, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Jamie Lee Curtis, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette, LaKeith Stanfield, Katherine Langford, Jaeden Martell, and Christopher Plummer.
Johnson conceived Knives Out in 2005 and decided to make the film after finishing Looper in 2012. However, due to his involvement in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, he did not write the screenplay until 2017. Knives Out was announced in 2018, and it was sold to distributors during the 2018 Toronto International Film Festival. Filming was completed in three months from October to December 2018.
Knives Out had its world premiere at the 2019 Toronto International Film Festival on September 7, 2019 and was theatrically released in the United States on November 27 by Lionsgate Films. It received universal critical acclaim, particularly for its screenplay, direction, and acting, and it grossed $312.9 million worldwide on a $40 million budget. At the 77th Golden Globe Awards, it received three nominations in the Musical or Comedy category while also receiving Best Original Screenplay nominations at the 73rd British Academy Film Awards and 92nd Academy Awards. It was selected by the American Film Institute and the National Board of Review as one of the top ten films of 2019.
In March 2021, Netflix paid $469 million for the rights to two standalone sequels written and directed by Johnson, with Craig reprising his role. The first sequel, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, was released in theaters and is set to be on Netflix on December 23, 2022.

I love how Chris Evans said the hardest acting he ever did was pretending he didn’t want the dogs to jump on him. Because he loves dogs so much.
Not to mention eating in a scene. Eating during a movie is pure PAIN. Because you have to keep eating over and over again even when you’re full and feel like vomiting.
@@TJUC123 oof yeah I forgot about that
@@TJUC123 No wonder Marta was so worried in the scene with Ransom 😂
@@TJUC123 well you don’t have to always keep eating if the shot is perfect the first time…maybe
@@pumpkinwarrior7138 Shoots are rarely EVER perfect the first time. That’s wishful thinking for any actor. That never happens. 😂
When Chris Evans sassily responds back “Father” to his dad I laugh EVERY TIME god he’s so funny
"Eat shit!"
"I will not eat one iota of shit!"
@@phousefilms Fun fact, "I will not eat one iota of shit" was ad-libbed by the actor according to Rian Johnson
All the line deliveries in that scene before the will reading are :chef's kiss:.
@@iiRaptusGaming I wish Michael Shannon got more comedy and not just intense/villain roles cause he seems really naturally funny
*G and don’t say God’s name in vain
I love that they made you think you already knew whodunit but still had a twist :)
I saw this in theaters with my mom and my mom lost it laughing at the "Eat shit" scene because she came from a dysfunctional family and it reminded her a lot about her family.
Absolutely love Chris Evans in this. Cap is one of my favorite Avengers and I love what a POS he is here. The whole cast is stellar!
The whole family! “RAY THEYRE TERRIBLE PEOPLE!” 😂
Chris Evans is such a great actor when I look at Captain America and Ransom next to each other I don't even see the same person because he even holds himself so differently
Roles like Lucas Lee (Scott Pilgrim) and Ransom are the ones I love seeing him in, always get the feeling they're a lot of fun for him and he always plays the hell out of them
This movie was SO good. Definitely one of the best original movies (non sequal, non adaptation, etc.) to come out in recent years.
I think you edit yourself into videos better than most reactors I’ve seen. I love this as part of your style 💜
Thank you so much, who else does it?
@@HelloMellowXVI movies with mary
@@J4ME5_ what video?
@@HelloMellowXVI most of the time it's her newer breaking bad reactions. I think reactors put in extra energy with the edits when they really really enjoy a show. Your edits really are the best though man , no one comes close. Keep up the great work
Oh and Caped informer too..
16:00 this movie actually inspired me to write a murder mystery of my own for the final class project. sadly, after 3 months of writing, and 2 months of planning, a week before filming, classes were suspended due to the 'rona.
Damn, you hate to see that. At least you'll still always have that script.
@@matthewtelles4809 yeah... working on actually turning the script into novel form so the friends i have that are sorry that the movie was cancelled could still read it.
Don't let it stop you!
I've seen this movie so many times, but I always tear up at 12:01 at Ana de Armas's acting! The sheer panic and fear she conveys is incredible!
He hit the key on the piano to get them to ask a certain question. Daniel Craig based his accent on Foghorn Leghorn from Loony Tunes.
I took it as they were getting off track and needed to get back on track
16:04 "I hope that this movie inspires a new generation of people to write their own novels and stuff"
I'm currently writing a noir novel. 6 Femme fatales have a standoff with the Halifax police NYE 1949.
When MELL said "BITCH TALK!!!!" I laughed so hard everyone looked at me in the middle of breakfast 🤣🤣🤣
People assuming Marta was having sex w Harlon when there isn’t any reason to think that except she’s young and he’s old and rich is kinda a self report ngl lmao
The opening minutes of the video makes me think that this just might be the thirstiest reaction to this movie on this platform lol
PS: editing yourself into the movie is just hilarious stuff lol
Mell knowing a well-tailored suit on a woman or a man! Let's gooooo
Lmaooo when you added yourself into the interview 😂
Lol Michael sheen Somewhere is like…. I’m in knives out??
Knives Out is probably my favorite mystery. I feel like once a mystery movie is over, sometimes it's not as fun to rewatch it, but this one is the exception. The only change I would make would be to see less vomit. Marta blowing chunks on Ransom was disgusting and somehow satisfying, but *hrk*. Glad you enjoyed it, and I think I'll go back and rewatch your Logan Lucky reaction if you have it.
No, I love rewatching mysteries and seeing all the clues and red herrings.
Someone on reddit said its baby-food with water, and that knowing that makes it easier to watch.
This is one of those movies that gets better on a rewatch, because you can go back and catch things you missed the first time.
I’m from Lousiana, they don’t talk like that over here lol at least not where I’m at. I think his accent is more South Carolina or Georgia or something.
Great reaction, fantastic movie. That shot with Hugh going after Marta was epic and gets me every time!
The youngest son in the family is the kind of guy who says "You can't make movies like that anymore!" about Blazing Saddles because he wants to use the n-word while white, and uses "woke" as an insult.
*Edit:* Basically, the reason Harlan didn't want to let anyone in the family inherit was because he'd managed to spoil them into becoming a bunch of Karens and varieties of Dudebros.
Just watched the sequel to this with my family for Christmas (We have a very strange tradition of watching murder mysteries instead of christmas movies lol) and I found it to be super funny. I get the feeling that everyone who did this one and the sequel just had a lot of fun making them. Plus Daniel Craig doing That Accent, could listen to him doing that accent all day.
the thirst for Jamie Lee Curtis and Toni Collette, lmao, infinite respect for a man who can appreciate an older woman
2:21 I can't get over this... 😂
I appreciate that you always appreciate a good outfit Mellow !!! As a big fan of Hercule Poirot and any crime & mystery movie, this one is 5 stars ⭐️
Also love the editing 👍🏾
Hope you'll be reacting to Glass Onion when it drops on Netflix the 23rd! It's a great sequel and I would argue it's better than this!
First reaction I've seen of yours. I love your unique editing style for these. Not just a simple reaction but editing for comedy. Loved seeing you park your ass down for breakfast with the family lol
Your editing keeps getting better and better! I love your style!
Wish I could hire his editor.
Please give the STAR TREK franchise a chance. 🖖🎄
Man your edit is the best . Big love 💕
For real, especially when he puts his head on their bodies or places himself in cars or at tables in his reactions 😂
This movie has one crazy twist after another!
love how you use editing to add to your reactions along with your commentary! always cool to see fresh takes on reaction content :)
dude I love how you edit yourself into the movie
Stupid with two 'o's. I love that line and still use it today.
Love your edit bro
That frozen meme coming up during the most clever scenes got me every time, loved the editing in this!!
You will LOVE Glass Onion. It's so freakin good! Also, when it's available, you MUST watch The Menu. You'll really like that one, as well. Anya Taylor-Joy is GORGEOUS in that film, and Ralph Fiennes!
I don’t have Netflix anymore so I can’t watch Glass Onion yet but man I loved Knives Out. And it’s so re-watchable even though you already know what happens!
Love this movie!
Yes you definitely need to watch "Clue" One of my all time favourite movies.
Another quirky murder mystery is "Murder by Death". Weird but pretty funny.
More of a comedy/spoof.
34:57 I bet you wish that was you on top of her Mel 😂😂
Great reaction as always man
This is by far my favorite mystery movie. Something about it made it an instant classic when it came out back in 19. Watched it several times and there’s always been something new to appreciate about it.
Love love love this movie. It's so much fun and a terrific overall plot that we get to watch unravel. Plus the cast is amazing. Sometimes when there are so many big names things get too crowded and characters get lost in the shuffle, but this movie has a lot of big names who also are integral to the story. And you do such a damn good job editing yourself into the reactions -- definitely makes your reactions stand out from others.
Love that you watched this. I got to see Glass Onion in theaters. It was fun like this one. Clue is one of my favorite movies, has been since childhood. It only got better watching as an adult and getting all the jokes. Super excited for you to check it out!
watching both movies really really somidifies my want for a whole franchise (if thats what theyre looking for) because theyre both so good
This is my favorite movie of all time! I love your commentary because it’s exactly how I felt watching it for the first time. Good job!!
Thanks for interacting with me in the live chat mell, loved this reaction as always hope you keep well my dude ^-^
love this movie so much, so happy to watch your reaction Mello ❤
In my opinion, the best use of you editing yourself into the movie. Always funny and this was the best one
if you loved this, you’d definitely love “murder on the orient express” which recently released a sequel called “death on the nile.” i haven’t seen it yet but a third movie “a haunting in venice” is in the works for a 2023 release so i’m assuming it was pretty good. follows a similar premise of a lead detective and each movie a different case. i’m glad to see this style mystery movies back on the big screen but with a refreshing upgrade 🙌🏾
I’m sorry, but you could not have recommended worse mystery movies lmaooooo especially when compared to Knives Out, Orient Express and Death on the Nile are an embarassment
@@gabe6495 that’s alright. we all have our own opinions. i don’t expect everyone to agree 🤷🏾♀️
Wrong versions, lol! The original 70's Murder on the Orient Express is a billion times better
@@legendaccount3247 the 2010 David Suchet Murder on the Orient Express is also great
I love the Hercule Poirot movies.
I’ve seen a number of reactions to this movie but yours is by far my favorite, wow
Once again the editing and reaction working hand in hand. Very well done.
Great flick. I loved the splices, especially the interview. I didn't see that coming.
My Murder Mystery suggestions are "Sleepy Hollow", "Clue", & "Muder Mystery" (2019).
1:34 yes bro. That's my mom, doesn't give a damn how many doors she slams in the morning, but we have to be quiet for our parents. They a damn trip, but we love them anyway 🤷
i’ve seen so many knives out reactions but yours is the funniest-earned a subscribe from me!
Great movie and great reaction. Really like how you used the greenscreen to put yourself into the scenes, that was hilarious!
The end credits are based on the portraits in the game Clue! Speaking of which, I think you will love the movie Clue-- another great ensemble cast, quotable dialogue, often very funny. Re: mystery books, Elizabeth Peters wrote a series set mostly in Egypt starting in the late 1800s, from the (sometimes unreliable) perspective of amateur female archaeologist Amelia Peabody-- who is kind of Indiana Jones in skirts. I don't think there's ever been a movie made of any of them, but I wish there were.
35:58 That edit you put in just creased me the hell up XD I share the sentiment!
Fun fact, the old man reading the will is Frank Oz, aka the voice actor for yoda
lucky for you all knives out 2 comes today atleast here in europe. I wish you all so much enjoyment. I like that mystery movies coming back. I hope to see more like this one in the future.
I love the editor touches of foreshadowing whenever you'd predict something!
Bruh I laughed out loud when dude told him to knock off that Kentucky Fried Foghorn Legion drawl. 😆
Man hes so right . Ana de Armas is gorgeous
I’ve been waiting for this one! One of my favourite movies of all time
While this was more drama with some comedic undertones, a couple of comedy mysteries to check out besides Clue, which you already mentioned and are planning on watching, The Private Eyes, a parody of Sherlock and Watson, starring classic comedy duo Don Knotts and Tim Conway, and the OG ensemble spectacle, Murder by Death, which has an all star cast, portraying the most iconic detectives from literature, television and films.
Neil Simon's Murder by Death (1976) featuring lots of famous actors playing parodies of famous movie and literary detectives gathered to solve a mystery in a large manor house.
It's Clue, before Clue.
One of my favorite movies from 2019. I saw the sequel today...this is still supreme. I absolutely love this .movie. This my favorite Chris Evans role
Bahaha barely 2min in and I’m obsessed with your edits haha you watching the telanovela with the sis made me ugly laugh 😂
Ah, the movie that was so good, I saw it twice in the theatre! Once on premise week, the other as a girls night with my best friend before Halloween (?)
Chris Evans is SO acting out of his usual character, and I LOVE IT! Just imagine Captain America saying the things he says in this movie, and his character becomes more hilarious!
Ana de Armas does a very great job as well. She ROCKS the scarves!
Daniel Craig...what more is there to be said?
Jamie Lee Curtis is also amazing in this. I love her trademark sass in here!
Also, I appreciate the Frank Oz cameo (guy who did the puppetry for Yoda as well as voice him as well as an acclaimed Muppet actor)!
delightful reaction:) i felt the same way about marta, shes just so stunning!!
I'm proud of you for watching the greatest movie of all time
Appreciate That Broski
If you enjoyed Chris’ performance as the antagonist in this film, would you consider reacting to The Gray Man? It was a great movie!
Exactly!
You next to Ana at the breakfast table killed me 🤣🤣🤣
6:43 "Netflix, You're Green Lit!"
Ready or not and knives out is the perfect duo for dysfunctional rich families
Ouu I can't wait to see you react to the sequel of you think this one was great, 🤯🤯🤯 ayyeee can't wait. This one sets the tone for the second and hats off to the director ☺️ truly
Little fun fact: Chris REALLY had to hold himself from playing with the dogs
Sometimes I get bad dreams where I'm just stuck in a really tedious situation that I can't escape until my mind conjures up a random spider to scare me awake.
Bruh that edit of your head with the headphones on, onto Daniel Craig’s head had me cackling
I can't figure out which one's my favorite...
4:50 the piano key prompt is to ask them all the same question, when did you arrive.
Hey Melo. Glad u checked out another one of my faves.
4:38 I CAN ANSWER THAT! Whenever Blanc hits that key on the piano, Lt. Elliott asks what time they arrived at the party. It was to make sure their stories matched up~
Well, you did ask for a favorite mystery movie, so let me recommend the same one I always recommend to everyone: The Last of Sheila, a 1973 masterpiece that I think is the only murder mystery I have ever seen that was written directly for the screen (not adapted from some other source) that is even cleverer than Knives Out. I mention this one especially since, in several interviews with cast members of Knives Out, they mention The Last of Sheila as the movie they wanted to emulate. As to a favorite mystery book -- and again, we're talking about the ingenuity of the mystery, not other literary qualities -- I think the clear standout is The Murder of Roger Ackroyd by Agatha Christie (1926), a book no mystery lover should miss, followed closely by two books by John Dickson Carr: The Three Coffins (1935, also known as The Hollow Man), and The Burning Court (1937). I hope you get a chance to experience these for yourself; I guarantee you will enjoy them enormously.
Oh! Jesus! I wasn't ready to see the Lunesta side-effects. Coma?! Damn.
Lunesta works a little too much...
Truer words haven’t been spoken, first saw her in “Knock Knock”, GOD LAWD🤯
can you react to jumanji welcome to the jungle and jumanji the next level i want to see your reaction to the movies 👀😌
bro I love both of these movies so fucking much. Cannot wait for part 3
Anyone out there ever see "Deathtrap" (1982) directed by Sidney Lumet, and starring Michael Caine and Christopher Reeve? Now, THAT was a pretty good mystery!
I was able to watch this in theaters and we analyzed the will reading scene in my recent film class
love this movie, loved your reaction!
My favorite mystery movie is Vertigo with Jimmy Stewart but Knives Out is def in my top five.
The Clue movie is great, and I did play the game as a kid. It's pretty simple. You just have a set of cards representing a room, a weapon, and a murder suspect and you put one of each into an envelope without looking at them because they represent the answer to the mystery. Every other card is distributed among the players and they use a notepad to mark what cards they have, which represent what the answer CAN'T be. You role dice to move your pieces around the mansion and go to whichever room you think the murder happened in and say "I think X suspect did it in Y room with Z weapon". Anyone with X, Y, or Z in their hand then has to show one of those cards to the player to prove their accusation incorrect. The player marks the newly eliminated possibility off on their notepad, and the rest of the players continue to make educated guesses until one of them gets it right. You can just make random guesses the whole time, but if you want to employ a little strategy you could study the moves the other players make to deduce which cards nobody has and must therefore be in the envelope. It's great for teaching young children basic logic and deductive reasoning.
Favorite mystery book: A classic that when I read it as a late teenager, I was blown away. The book? "The Murder of Roger Ackroyd" by Dame Agatha Christie.
So Blanc actually notices the blood on Marta's shoe right away. You can see him look down in the scene where they first meet.
Who ever does your edits are awesome 👌 at 3:51 was too funny ❤
I Love a Good Old Fashion Murder Mystery ❤️ This movie was Everything...
Literally the only reason I thought Chris Evans would be the killer, is that actors who play good guys for a long time (like Captain America), almost immediately play a villain role right after. I had no idea I was right until the reveal, so I can pretend to be a genius;] This is my fav movie of all time (tied with Wonder Woman). Fav mystery book is The 7 & 1/2 Deaths Of Evelyn Hardcastle by Stuart Turton and The Cormoran Strike series by Robert Galbraith. Other Mystery books: One By One by Ruth Ware, The Stranger Diaries by Elly Grifiths, A Good Girl's Guide To Murder by Holly Jackson, I Is For Innocent by Sue Grafton, The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides, The Passengers by John Marrs, Magpie Murders & The Word Is Murder by Anthony Horowitz. Any of the books by these authors are great.
One thing I love about this movie that almost nobody notices, is the fact that the only reason Linda finds out that Richard is cheating is because he threw the baseball out the window the dog found it, gave it to her and she took it back to the office to find the letter
If you loved Knives Out than you will love Inside no. 9. It's an anthology series, 7 seasons, 6 episodes per season and a Halloween & Christmas special, each 30 minutes long. The two actors also play in each episode different characters, write and produce the show. It has comedy, horror, murder mystery, and an insane twist every time. They also made The league of gentlemen and Psychoville. They are good, but Inside it's just on another level. If you loved Monthy Python you will love their content. And the best part is that if you don't like an episode the next will be a certain hit. You should check it out,, give it a try, it's worth it.
I make sure certain doors are squeaky, only because I read "Rangers Apprentice" when I was younger. Hearing a door open could save your life.
The editing!!! 👏
2+ points for the sweater & the Ana De Armas appreciation.
