Some contractors indicate to the client when making an appointment, that a cancellation within 24 hours before the intervention is invoiced. I am also an electrician, and to avoid these situations, I always have sites on which I can go without an appointment. Sorry for bad english am from Switzerland. Thank you for the content, I can discover my job in other countries and with other ways of doing things ♥
It happens unfortunately. If she does get back to you and wants the job doing, either put her off or if you do decide to to the work, add NV (Nuisance Value) on to the invoice. I've done that with a few customer's who have messed me about.
Here in the states, we call that PITA (Pain In The Ass) tax. I personally apply this on any client who get up my nose. I'm an Independent IT Consultant.
Not sure what your policy or local laws are but where I'm from if a client cancels last moment they must pay at least 50% of what was supposed to be done. They wasted your valuable time. You could have been at another job.
Unfortunately it happens. I once turned up at a job to do a kitchen refurb. The bloke who let me in looked really embarrassed, he proceeded to tell me the works had already been carried out and his wife had arranged me by mistake!!! I walked off shaking my head as nothing I could do.
If it was a job you be quite within your rights to charger, but because it’s a free quote there’s not a lot you can do it happens and it will happen again unfortunately as I found out if she was in then you quoted the job and never got it you’re still in the same situation you spent time but not got paid for it. Bring back the good old days when we charge £50 for a quotation
I ditched Tradify as they could not add the terms I need (14 day cooling off in peoples homes law) with particular formatting. I asked them about this and they had never heard of this law. As far as clients like this I store their number in my mobile with a DNA (do not answer) so I know to pass on them in future I now use Xero which allows me to upload a word document as a blank terms and conditions template. How do you deal with the 14 day cooling off requirements on your estimates?
Happens lot just go to the next job , you wasn’t going to earn anything quoting anyway, (you might not have even got the job) or if you did get the job just add your time wasted onto the quote/invoice without them knowing
Unfortunately all part of the job, its one of the reasons that as a self employed person you charge way more per hour than someone in a full-time job would earn.. There is always paperwork to do and van to clean etc.. I think when she books it in again say "You definitely sure its all good to go for that day cause if you cancel last minute it means I don't earn anything for the day so please make sure your all ready to go".. Think then you would make the point..
Hello mate , Will you ever do a video where you go through you and the apprentices power tools? I’m an apprentice and would be really interested to see what you both use
Should just rock up, say you haven’t received the text, the look on there face a be worth the three hours…For the sake of 3 hours, inconvenient I no but I wouldn’t wast any more thought on it, You have done every thing you can.has she postponed or cancelled ? I’d take a drive round there for a little look see to see if another contractors turned up…
It's hard to know what to do on that side of these things Ryan but you are at a loss 100% but 2 hrs is pretty minimal and kasper is happy out getting the wages for having a coffee😂😂
One positive could be that it might have been one of those customers that then won’t pay at the end by the sound of it. But understand having someone cancel last minute does suck!
Just leave it, take it on the chin and kindly refuse her if she wants to use your services in the future. Leaving it until that morning she's 100% wasting your time.
Civil engineering subby here. Any aborted visits are invoiced at a rate of 2 hours. I work for a lot of limited companies so perhaps it's a little more accepted. I guess civilians don't think like business owners, however I think it's fair that work, in any form, is remunerated.
personly i drop customers like that, more often than not you'll end up coming around 2 3 4 times where they cancel last minute, it's just easier just to drop the customer, just sent her a message, "I'm sorry to hear of your troubles, unfortunately reserving a timeslot for a job and showing up in vain is also costing me a lot of money, feel free to contact me if or when you are in a better situation to lock in a date and time" I also always try to have a few jobs on the back burner, where I can come and go as I please, I often offer the customer a bit of a discount, and I advertise these jobs as there will be done when I have wholes in my day, and make sure the customer is absolutely clear the job is a backup job, with no or a longer timeframe, mostly it's things like lights in a barn or shed or outdoor lights or things like that, where I can come and go and the customer doesn't need to be home or anything, where i can work for 30 min or an hour or 2
Get all the info before you set off. Address and a phone number, and check the number exists. I’d get them off Facebook messenger to confirm either by a phone call or text message. Don’t arrange the booking until you have their details. You don’t need to block or ignore her, she may be juggling lots of plates, but I’d be wary.
It happens if you did manage to do the quote and not get the job its basically the same situation. As for what i would do find the local cafe and have breakfast. If she contacts you in the future remember shes the customer and if you sack her off its just lost work and money.
old saying.. fool me once shame on you . fool me twice shame on me. i always give clients 2 chances , if it happens more than once let them go. if she hadn't replied at all fair play.
Ghost her Simple Next time around start with a deposit, fully refundable if the work happens, partially if it doesn't, not at all if it's cancelled by the client
Been there, done that. You live and learn. Quotes should be free, that's great you are offering that, but never turn up for a job on the back of a quote. Time is money. Once a job is confirmed have a terms and conditions that cancellations will be charged a percentage of the job.
Enjoy the coffee Kacper and mr Electisian i don't know the name of 😂🙈 Im fibre data telecoms engineer and i do feel yoyr pain , its a great thing that wasn't the only job of a day
She's a Messer mate you've dodged a bullet there just be thankful you only have a bit of time invested as opposed to time, effort ,cable and accessories. She ain't gonna be a good customer/payer. If she contacts you again just say you're too busy.
I'd be tempted to invoice for a cancellation (tongue in cheek); if she pays, great, if not... take it on the chin. If nothing else, you may be able to offset a non-paid invoice against your tax? Did you buy any materials? Invoice those, tentatively, as well.
Regardless, if I asked you to come and quote me, I’d be available to fit around your time as long as we both could do it. Well in advance. I’d charge for wasted time if I went to a meeting to be turned around on the way. You’re doing them a favour by not charging for the quote if you don’t get the work. Btw, if you’re Watford way any time, let me know - happy to go through the app too.
There is nothing you can do the client is not obliged to go ahead at any stage unless a contract is drawn up and even then some clients will not pay as it was there intension to never pay and they will know it will cost you a lot more to recover through the courts. Hopefully we do not get many off them so move on and forget her.
Just leave it mate. When you calm down you'll make the correct decision. Never respond in anger... also keep her sweet and when you do eventually quote and get the job tuck her up for the time wasted when she cancelled the first meeting. Don't get mad get even 🤣
That’s the type you get on fb all a waste of time. I don’t even look at fb msgs anymore. At least you haven’t spent time looking at it then pricing it only to never hear back
Hi rob hope all is well buddy trying to catch up on vids as been in hospital again, well buddy before mobile phones we would be standing at the front door knocking then going to a phone box lot harder back in the 80s before all the technology now ,,,,,,,,she knew her work load and like us all when we have a lot on we can have a slip up but when a time is confirmed then it’s a done deal and rob there no harm in letting her know that your time is your money and for her to appreciate you being up to your word and not to let you know 30 mins before time ,, anyway you be safe and god bless x woody
Unfortunately part of it , I would just say thanks for letting me know due to the short notice we were already on the way just to indicate to them they have put you out, cuz some ppl just don’t realise and will just re arrange and think nothing of it, might make her think more about it if she asks for a re arrange i would say yes but its £ to cover the lost fuel ect of last time …balls in her court then n at least if she re books its not another free-be , I have had a few pol say thats fine in the past its bot being unreasonable
I’d call her and explain that it’s wasted two hours of your time. If she’s a cow, invoice her for an hour for the quote. It’s still lost income and you’re entitled to it - the quote is free because it’s an opportunity to bid for the work. If she’s decent then bury it and move on.

This is normal, been self employed 35 years, don't go back to this customer. No point invoicing for lost time you're just wasting more time.

They cancelled. It’s part and parcel of self employment. I stopped dying in a ditch over cancellations two decades ago.
