If you want to get your own back on the possibly time-pressed plasterer, I don't suggest that you do what I did by mistake on my second ever second fix. But I'm grateful for this opportunity to confess, albeit a couple of decades after the fact.
As we all know, jobs get out of whack on sites. I had done the second fix in the new kitchen before the final skim had been carried out.
When I returned to juice up the rest of the renovation, I was greeted by the Giant Haystacks sized plasterer who showed me his favourite trowel with a big sooty gash in its side.
I had forgotten a low level skt which was hiding behind a pile of stuff.
He was lucky to be alive as he told me of the huge flash/bang my live wires had made when his trowel had made contact.
I was lucky to be alive because he somehow controlled his fury.
    Didn't do that again.

    • @justbreakingballs
      @justbreakingballs Před 3 měsíci

It's fine no devmbate about it. It's a termination the tight radius of the conductor isn't carrying current in the same way as just a piece of cable, the bend gives way ore copper for the screw terminal to bite. You don't always have to do it, and it can be a hindrance if you have multiple cables terminating in the terminal and it can be fine not doi g it but no doubt it's OK to do. It can be especially helpful with 1mm lighting cable sometimes. Some snips like my ck ones have a small notch it to actually facilitate the process.

When you have more than one conductor, usually they rest side by side with the screw clamping on top so you don't need to fold them. Almost impossible to get 3 conductors in for a spur on some cheap sockets!

My view is the cables should not be secured on their passage in the cavity but should be clipped as they enter the cavity. This intentional slack affords the cable some protection from drilling or nails entering the cavity. I have often seen damage to cables when clipped to the batten as the DIYer will have sought out the batten as a more secure anchor for the item being mounted.

      German electrician here.
      My thoughts are:
What the hell kind of cable is that? Why is the PE without insulation?
Stripping with side cutters? nope! Too great a risk of damaging the core.
Screw terminals on the socket? Why? Spring terminals are simpler and more reliable! And then there's this socket without contact protection and guide/holder for the plug.
If someone were to install something like this in my home, they could expect a thunderstorm ;)

@@MolbydanNot only is it without insulation but also thinner than the others.
I think they just introduced a cable with insulated CPC.

As young as you are you should know that you shouldn’t pull the earth cable with the pliers before you go through the out insulation with the Stanley knife first.

What the hell did you expect the plasterer to do when you installed the boxes before the wall was skimmed? He protected your cables, so what are you complaining about?

Screwdrivers are shit, what is that pound shop? Home bargains?
2 tools to strip cable.. why cant you just use the snips for everything.
Rear entry on a dry line 🤢🤮
