Too funny. I saw the thumbnail and I was like, "What?!? A new kindle - how did I miss this news?" Then I thought, oh, Maneetpaul is bored so now he is opening up a kindle and showing us the insides! I would like to see the insides of a kindle.... then I clicked on the video and figured out, oh, it is April Fool's Day today! Keep up the great work! Your videos are always the perfect length, information, and quality!

Wow! I remember reading about these when they came out but I've never seen one, certainly not in such detail. Very cool history lesson. Loved seeing the early attempts to migrate concepts relating to a familiar physical item into a digital version; that wedge shape to feel like a folded-back book is so out-there compared to our flattish devices these days yet makes total sense! Imagine being the designers tasked with this and with a total blank slate before you and coming up with this; they did a pretty terrific job!

This was fab. Reminds me of why I eventually plumped for the Basic White, 10th Gen. No fingerprints.
These Kindles were built to last. I recently sold my 4th Gen, on eBay. It's 11 years and people are still buying them! It was very minimal and I occasionally miss the simplicity of it and the physical buttons.
I have my new Kindle set up to look as near as damn it the same.
That is, until the most recent update arrived.
I don't really use the built in light, except for emergencies!
It'd be cool to see all of the old Kindles revisited.
But, that might get a bit expensive!😉📚

The first gen Kindle was definitely pretty cool for what it was, even if I like my more streamlined one. Weirdly, though, my 2014 Paperwhite actually stopped holding a charge (it only lasts for like a day now?), which was what prompted me to upgrade to my Oasis in 2021. Kind of surprised that the original model is still working that well. Maybe the old owner didn't read it to death.

I remember my 1st Kindle back in 2010, the 3rd gen kindle keyboard. It didn't have a built in light so I got a fancy cover for it that had a cool slip in light with a goose neck, I thought I was somethin else! LOL! The battery lasted forever! Then I moved on to the Voyage in 2014. Oh I loved it, with the built in front light and page turn buttons. Again, brilliantly long battery. Then on to the Oasis in 2021. Another one with wonderful front light and page turn buttons. But the friggin battery sucks! Like it literally lasts a couple days if I'm lucky. Am I the only one???

(14:31) The set of screensavers with tips and photos of famous authors was something that was, as far as I know, used all the way to the 3rd generation. The set of writing-related screensavers used on modern Kindle e-readers was introduced with the 4th generation, which was also the first to offer more UI language options than just English, and also the first to feature an initial setup process (instead of just opening the manual on first start-up).
(14:39) Ad-supported Kindle e-readers was introduced with the 3rd generation.
(5:31) It's just overkill for regular plain text novels. For stuff like picture books, illustrated and graphic novels, as well as audiobooks, 32 GB of storage would certainly help. I have an e-reader with 64 GB of storage for all the comics I read on it and more!

Yep, and if I recall correctly, they were only on the high end versions of the first-party cases, for the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gen, and the 5th gen basic. They hooked into holes on the left (on 2nd and 3rd generations) or contacts on the back near the bottom (for 4th generation and 5th gen basic) to get power, and only turned on when folded out. Some people would modify the lower-end cases to tap power for third-party book lights.

Buttons at the bottom for other options but no keyboard. No touch screen. No back-light. List on home page, no covers. It was the basic model back then.
