Commander Players Can't Drive You Crazy If You’ve Got The Keys | A Guide To Metalcraft Vehicles czcams.com/video/0rziCOgL3YY/video.html
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think Conquering Manticore combos with Kiki-Jiki because it only gains control of and untaps a creature an opponent controls. JUDGE!
you need to play this deck on "I hate your deck" or one of the other "fun" , it should be funny.
@@jonathananonymouse7685 Was thinking the same thing
Hey Prof thanks again for highlighting my deck. Starke’s been a blast to play over the years! The video came out amazing!
@Justin Giovaniello Dude, this is a sweet deck! Thanks for being willing to share it with everyone.
This is such a cool idea for a deck.
Thanks for sharing it!
@@caseyryanmcdonald4375 Looks like I'm not the only who listened to the most recent Command Zone podcast 😆
I will agree that this a VERY cool deck. The planning behind it was very clever, and it's a very unique build that I can't wait to surprise my pod with.
@Justin Giovanniello props dude!
@@jackstraw9635 Thanks for checking it out and for your kind words! I hope you have a blast with it.
One of the most fun things I get with the deck is doing some tricky stuff and watching my opponents’ jaws drop. Catching them off guard like that feels fantastic.
This is a phenomenal deck, thanks for sharing :)
If you ever felt sorry for Starke getting his eyes slashed out, this vid ought to sap your sympathy pretty quick.
Also: Starke can run Liquimetal Coating and Liquimetal Torque, allowing you to use your Starke on noncreature permanents that you can't otherwise answer. How is mono-red supposed to answer enchantments? That's how.
Not every day you wake up and see such a cool video for such an overlooked commander! Thank you Prof, you made my day! Wonder how you'd build a Joven deck....
Never knew homura was a card, Def adding that to a few decks. This deck really has some unique cards that give me some ideas elsewhere.
Kamigawa has some hidden gems with unique abilities - I suggest you filter the rares from the block in gatherer/scryfall and go through them.
Just wait we are going back to kamigawa so who know what we will get next
Absolutely love this deck, an interesting mono red style that isn’t just burn or goblins
You'd love my Magda deck then! It's got three flex slots to swap out to power up or down the playstyle, either tutoring an infinite combo (4 mana and ten treasures instantly wins), some stax pieces, collosus hammer + whispersilk cloak, or just some beefy dragon beaters. No matter which I use, it's so different than typical monored
@@DaveyDAKFAE I was so on board until you said infinite combo. My playgroup really hates them, if you go infinite or near infinite to win it’s an instant loss and it goes to the next players turn.
@@DaveyDAKFAE I did build a treasure based deck recently from Aliki, Line Swinger and Malcolm the blue pirate. It generates lots of treasures from different ways but the idea is to sit on them like a big mound of pirate booty and swing hard with Akiri and using other cards that like lots of artifacts out.
@@jonlangthorne7924 that's why the infinite combo is optional. I can swap out between infinite combo, stax, voltron, or battlecruiser depending on the table
@@DaveyDAKFAE fair play! Do you have a deck list, I’d love to take a look?
Professor: So here it is, MONO RED CONTROL..
Me: You have my attention.
I love how your big list of specific decks ends with "Simic Deck", because of course they're all exactly the same.
Not even a minute in and I'm already in love with this video.
Tangential, but... Homura has become my favorite Commander this year. So many hoops to jump through, so fragile, and so explosive. It's a rollercoaster every time.
We've secretly replaced the Professor with the Instructor, let's see if anyone notices...
K I love this concept ! This is soo cool ! Red control ! I even have some of these staple cards so it isn’t unthinkable to create !
Its a great deck!
@@TolarianCommunityCollege thanks for all the enjoyment btw Prof! You really help me to see magic beyond just a card game but a real sense of community !
I'm so excited about this video! I didn't know this commander existed but absolutely love it and will be building the deck. I would love more videos on older and more obscure commanders. My all time favorite EDH deck is a mono black Volrath the Fallen deck.
I've been going out of my comfort zone with commander lately with my newly built barel deck. This will definitely be my next build
Baral*
Starke has been one of my favorite commanders to pilot for years, I had no idea there was anyone else on the planet that played him lol - I run more of a group hug, but this video has given me some big ideas.
Same, I've been playing Starke for almost as long as I've been playing commander and I've never run into another player who knew what the card does, let alone someone else who plays the commander.
Some other considerations: coveted jewel, ichor wellspring, liquidmetal coating, mycosynth lattice, vandalblast, goblin welder, goblin engineer, rings of brighthearth. (i went heavier on the artifacts in my build)
Starke is also great in the 99 of Osgir, the Reconstructor with multiple untapping effects like 1000-year Elixir.
I had a red EDH deck back in the day. Had card draw and "Threaten" effects with main focus on ping + death touch. One of my favorites when I enjoyed MtG.
Cool to see a Starke build different from my own. Stacking triggers with 1000yr Elixir / Magewright Stone is a sweet idea I never thought of!
Always love your deck techs professor. It’s always fun to see the unusual archetypes you highlight in these videos
That intro resonated with me way more than it should have. Looking forward to a casual and friendly slaughtering of my playgroup!
Perfect!
Can we just talk about how dope that jacket is?
Also, Cubamajig, I'm buying a thing based directly off this video so keep giving the Prof support.
prof got drip
7:32 I don't think Manticore work with Kiki-Jiki. Manticore specifies an opponent controls, Conscripts works because it doesn't specify a controller.
Haha, he got you to comment for the algorithm! I am pretty sure Prof knows these things, as there is one such weird and obvious misconception in nearly every video.
But wait... By responding to you, I also commented and made the video get recommended to more people! Which is a good thing. So I did it.
@@Deus0tiosus I'm always happy when a content creator I like gives me a good reason to comment.
Use coercive recruiter instead!
Great video, so well put together and delivered, music, tonal inflection and the suit. Deck appeals to the dark or more appropriately red side of me, appreciate the synergy of it, definitely greater than the sum of it’ pieces. Reminds me a bit of a Jaya Ballard control list I considered. Far to much for my playgroups right now but will probably look to pick up some of those pieces I don’t have in my collection just in case the right time comes up. I have been enjoying brewing and playing with many of the uncommon commanders that have come out in the past year or so.
Waiting to see if "O' Come all ye Faithful" is just an interesting intro song choice, or if there's a reason to watch a goofy commander deck tech.
End of video: Intentional or unintentional, the song grabbed me and made me watch the whole thing. Kudos, Justin! The faithful came AND stayed lol
Hahaha thank you kindly señor
I'm glad someone else caught this. I was like "what the heck? why is he opening with 'O Come All Ye Faithful'???"
Just learned about this from an old episode of Command Zone and thought I'd check it out for some inspiration for my Jaya Ballard Task Mage control deck I have been trying to make work for a while now! Thanks so much for all your content, Prof!
He's right. I'll never want to play it or play against it. But I'm going to sit here cackling to myself as I watch.
Also Prof? Nice suit.
Since you asked for recommendations on deck techs to do in the future, and to my eyes it's been a while since you reviewed a miserable Sultai pile - may I offer you my Damia, Sage of Stone build of an "extra turns" themed Commander deck?
Decklist on request, but it has an affordable core with an astonishingly cheap mana base, a fair number of key pieces that cost only a couple dollars, and a truly sky-high potential for upgrades. With a reasonable ramp package, some mild infinite combos, and a lovely Villainous Wealth closer, the true joy of running this deck is watching your opponents realize the rest of the game is truly going to be solitaire. Nothing compares to a turn-five Emergent Ultimatum seeking Beacon of Tomorrows, Nexus of Fate and Omniscience, with a well-protected Damia already on board letting your playgroup know it's going to be a very, very long night.
Prof, had to rewatch this after recent command zone, appreciated the nuances and production value even more. Still not sure that I am going to jump into building a stark deck bit much for my playgroup and lgs. Am tempted to order him just cause
Nice video! I played with Justin yesterday, and I couldn't wait to see this deck tech video! 💕
This is a deck idea I always was sitting on. Never did it yet. Might have to build it for my 2nd set of 32 commander decks.
This deck looks fun, definitely going to try jamming it on mtgo! Would love to see a commander deck tech on a dredge style deck, I just love how dredge plays and wish I could play it in every format.
The go to card for dredge mecanics is the Gitrog Monster, does not necessarly have to be pushed to the limits with the infinite combos you can keep it random by not adding some broken interactions.
This just made me remember a card that used to be in play along time ago, but you never see anymore because it makes everyone hate you and no one will ever want to play with you again. That card is called Armageddon.
I've read the novels and still only remember this guy by name.
He's a background character. More of a plot device really. A guy that messed up Vuel's life, but had no good ideas on how to follow up.
This is so mean, and so fun! I could see this being a fun deck to pilot once in a while. Great tech!
Mono Red decks are already more powerful than anything in any 1v1 format
Agree. Red is so powerful that even in 1v1 u can play a control version of it omg 1v1 formats suck
This is such a cool deck design! So clever! Thank you for the share.
Here from Prof on CZ.
Man I loved this deck tech! I can't believe I missed it originally glad he mentioned it on CZ!
I love "o come let us adore him" as the intro soundtrack! Haha.
Me too!
A lot of cool interactions in this one! Might take some combo packages from it!
I’d love to see a deck tech on your take with dragon’s approach or rat colony. I love how you get to play with cards that never get played on commander under normal circumstances. Love your videos!
I'm working on a mono red control deck with Diaochan, Artful Beauty, i think some of these cards can be useful there. Thanks prof :)
I think you nailed it, the main strength is no one expects a mono red control deck.
When I first built the deck I had Diaochan in there and would switch commanders often depending on how I felt that day. Eventually she got cut because I focused it more on Starke and because Starke’s ability is much easier to manage (it also hits artifacts where Diaochan is only creatures)
Act of Agression - 3 Generic and 2 Phyrexian red mana -
Gain control of target creature until end of turn. Untap that creature. It gains haste until end of turn
To get your Starke back, or keep on taking !
And Liquidmetal Torque
to turn enchantments and planeswalkers into artifacts to take them too!
In earlier iterations I had liquimetal coating and hoard-smelter dragon to blow up and permanent for 3R.
I think I used Act of Agression very early on in the deck’s life but found there’s no need to pay for something that expensive when there are tons of cheaper cards with the same effect.
Learned a lot! Card interactions with cards familiar and others I have never seen!
Thanks prof. Strake has been a pet card of mine that I used in my commander cube as a potential commander. After seeing this I believe it will be fun to play as a constructed commander
I already have 3 mono red commander decks prof, I don't need more! Well, maybe just one more will be fine...
Your roleplaying and acting has gotten better over the years Prof!
Thanks for the upload. I have been focusing on my Kenrith hugs deck lot and enjoying it so much and does have some win cons. I am now building Atraxa control with some infect. If you haven't already done a Scion deck I would love to see it but Rubinia would have to be my top vote.
Mono R control I’ve been looking for this type of deck forever!
This is such a cool deck. I've been brewing a Hofri build with a similar theme. Exiling people's cards AND gaining permanent control of them? Yes please.
I 100% want these videos. Opponents be damned!
12:43 Dat Monthy Python Reference, I almost fell from my chair laughing 😹😹😹
Hey, I brewed with this 8 years ago! Really happy to see my boy getting some love.
😂 Love the Spanish Inquisition joke... I didn't expect it!
I really liked this deck tech, maybe going to build it :) Also, a deck tech on one of the strixhaven dragons would be fitting for you I think
The instructor sneaks into the studio from time to time
Very nice deck :) I love it. Just this week I finished my Hofri Boros without stax control deck :D After this video I have new idea how to upgrade it, thank You :)
you said recently this was one of your least viewed videos so i'm just here to say i loved it and i love the list. i'm the weirdo who loves watching deck techs even if i might not ever play it
Amazing. This would go so well alongside my Rayne, Academy Rector aggro deck
The "Oh Come All Ye Faithful" in the background had me think I was going crazy for a minute
2 tech decks in less than a week? I could get used to this. Thanks for the content, Professor!
If you want another evil deck with a weak looking commander, have you considered Discard Sygg, River Cutthroat? What appears to be a mild mannered merfolk tribal or upgraded sneak attack precon is a powerful stax deck that wins by sending people to hell(bent) and burning them out!
There are a ton of ways to make people discard and burn them while it happens, so I'll just list my two fav cards from the deck. "Painful Quandry" is a powerful stax card that will quickly kill your opponents while letting you draw a ton of cards with Sygg. "Breathstealer's Crypt" is the other really powerful one which will get you a ton of draws with Sygg while giving you perfect information about each player's draws.
(Also I do not actually spring this on strangers! I only play it in moderately high level groups where playstyles like stax and MLD is allowed!)
This is so evil and beautiful at the same time.
I've been trying to come up with mono red control for a while, this looks interesting
Great video Prof! I love to play mono U control so this really open my eyes
Really awesome deck! Love the random threaten and murder strats!
I really hope there is a video about the new way they're doing bundles starting with the new Innistrad sets, I'm worried it's going to be less for the same price.
Love that transition!
I would love to see an updated deck tech on Sen Triplets. I built one a long time ago but I feel like there’s been a decent amount of new sets since then to change the deck up.
On a Merfolk kick lately - so would love to see a deck tech on your most unexpected Merfolk tribal deck, Prof! (Maybe something that doesn't utilize Equipments too heavily?)
Really nice idea for a deck. LIKED IT LITERALLY.
Love the outro
The whole video I'm thinking, this approach to magic is entirely foreign to me, but awesome
The Prof is doing his best Col. Jessep impression to start off the video
Starke also works with copy effects - Illusionist's Bracers, Battlemage Bracers, Rings of Brighthearth all let you keep Starke the same way an untap effect would.
Great video as always, Prof
Such an interesting and creative deck. I feel like it's one of those decks that someone else has and then you play them and you secretly root for them in your head. Like, that deck is so cool and I want to see what it does, and somehow that makes me okay with getting bludgeoned by the starke stack. Magic has infinite innovation, and not all of it is good, but this is very-very good.
Starke…”you’re not the only one cursed with knowledge.”
Greatly appreciate your insight and highly regard your opinions sir, I love all of your content and really feel like you express the opinions of actual magic players not a youtuber simply appealing to magic players.
Here from the latest command zone podcast w/ the prof.! Awesome deck
Oooo some extra toys to help my tariel deck! Thanks prof!
Really impressed with the level of creativity
1:00
You spoke the exact words sealed deep down in my soul.
All I want to do is turn all lands into forests, then into 1/1s then play an anti-anthem, giving all creatures-1/-1
these deck is what I love about commander. Put really fringe and unkown cards that work amazing toghter!
something about the way the professor says "against" makes me smile every time
This was a great video Prof! I actually came up with this deck independent of the creator you got it from but I love that we had the same thought with the direction to take it in!
I thought I was the Highlander hahaha. Glad to see there’s someone else out there as twisted as me.
I’m curious about your deck choices as well. Do you have a link to yours?
@@caladbolg777 sorry sir, I do not tend to post my decklists anywhere just due to the fact that I don't have the time and patience for it. I would say that our lists are very similar but I lean hard into the threaten effects and sac outlets so I can gain some benefit from the creatures stolen after an attack. Some of my major deviations, I would say, are the inclusion of deserts for some of the land slots, cold storage and illusionist's bracers for more craziness. I think I run a few less creatures as well but I run Thermopod, Goldspan dragon and Neheb, the eternal to generate large sums of mana and back it up with things like aggravated assault, braid of fire and brand of ill omen to frustrate my opponents.
@@caladbolg777 I have also affectionately called it my "Mean girls" deck cuz it reminds me of that movie for some reason.
@@chrispomeroy8020 awesome. I took out illusionists bracers ages ago but it’s always a good budget option to consider that gets the job done.
I like your overall approach as well as the deviations. It’s good food for thought :). Thanks for sharing.
@@caladbolg777 I definitely agree with you! You have given me some nice new options to consider! Just curious, what did you sub in for the bracers?
I'm new to all of magic commander deck building, but I think adding anger to this deck would also work well! Yes you would probably have to hard cast it at first, but you can sacrifice it in so many ways with this deck, that I don't think it would be so bad...
Nice deck. I like the idea of a control deck in red.
Yes. More of this, please, Prof.
Are we sure the professor didn't study MTG sociology? Because he nailed that opening assessment regarding CCG community
Is it bad that I did an evil smile when I read the title?
I am in love with this deck!
Yes!!! Thumbs up at 1:04. You had me at blowing up mana bases and locking players out. Is there a better way to have fun and enjoy a casual format with friends? :)
I'm a little surprised liquimetal coating and liquimetal torque aren't in this deck but I loved this deck tech. Very tempted to build it myself.
Mono red control + voltron (kinda) was my idea for my Varchild deck, even tho I tried more stack control and non-permanet control cards
I have a Kari Zev deck with a very similar type of theft control with added pirate synergy. I call the deck "Take What You Can, Give Nothing Back."
I’m my monored kumano deck I really like bottled cloister, grafted skullcap staff of nin and teferis puzzlebox… also sunstone in addition to glacial crevasses
I would love to see a decktech on Prime speaker Vannifar toolbox !
Basically a fair Vannifar deck, that uses its tutor hability to find the perfect answer at every situation
Actually one of the coolest decks
It would be interesting to see what you make of Archelos, Lagoon Mystic as a commander Prof! I am currently playing 2 decks, Uro, Nature of Titans Wrath and Shadrix Silverquill :)
I have Licia and Karona decks. I’d love seeing a deck tech on either of them.
