14:44 Tekken 2 FMV Hiehachi looks like he's taking the worst dump of his life.
‘Tekken has gone to Tumblr, done some serious introspection and discovered himself as being combo-fluid’
I’m stealing this one, it’s just too fucking good man
There was a free Tekken Tag tournament machine at the pub my parents used to make me and my sister sit at while they pissed away the night getting drunk and inevitably screaming at each other.
8/10 game, stopped me from being an alkie and also provided that sweet sweet vidya escapism fix when I needed it most.
this scenario is the better version of letting media babysit your kids.
Oof
@@michaelmirs6894 ........WHAT?! 👿
@@michaelmirs6894 if only you got gud
Tekken 3 is amazing, I was playing it with with my friend a couple weeks ago and I gave him the work as Hwoarang! He felt some type of way that he threw my controller on the ground and stormed outta my house. Good times!
😂
I have some serious childhood trauma related to Hwoarang
@@rustymcbadbat ....what is it?
Fuck people who take Hwoarang
I only had a ps1 demo for tekken 3 but the first proper tekken game had/played was tekken tag torninent
Tekken 2 and 3 made my entire family get into fighting games..
I love how you pointed out that tekken (above all else) is a feeling , a vibe , an aesthetic and it’s something that’ has influenced a lot of the media i seek out today. The music and visuals were just so influential on an entire generation of kids. It also doesn’t hurt that the gameplay throughout the entire series (even tekken 4 dammit) is so addicting. Throughout the years it’s gotten more and more difficult but that core system of high mid and low hits has stuck around and for that the gameplay has always been amazing
Something else 3d fighters have is that its possible to have alternate costumes. In sprite based fighters, it is enough hard work that it would be better to just put that effort into an actual new character.
Like in Mortal Kombat?
You sure were tekken your time trying to render this out.
Seems it was worth it.
stop.
I'll come up with something better for part 2
Good reference....👍
As someone who's an avid fan of the Tekken series, Crash Bandicoot 3, and Dino Crisis 2, I really like your content. Your editing, writing, and sense of humor is top notch, as well. I can't smash that subscribe button hard enough.
Tekken Tag is my favorite, it took Tekken 3 and made it even better. But I still have to keep Tekken 3 around because of Tekken Ball
CHICKEN !
Jin Kazama... WINS!
ORA!
Guilty as charged on having Tekken 3.
parasite eve 2 ost playing in the background.
10/10
Heihachi actually threw Kazuya off the cliff as a child and forced him to climb back up. based on the idea that 'if he was my son, he will be strong enough to climb back up'. This was actually to prove that Kazuya had the devil gene from his mother. Later Kazuya then did the same thing to Heihachi as a sort of revenge, just for then Heihachi to climb back up and once again, throw Kazuya off a cliff into a volcano. This is when the devil gene was 'activated' as a means to preserve the body it had taken over.
There's actually a heck load of plot to tekken but in order to actually understand the story you have to play each game and get every characters ending and read all the dialogue etc. Interesting though, like learning Michele worked for Mishima corp as an Archaeologist but then fell in love and cancelled her work just for Heihachi to then wipe out her entire home town which is why she then fights in the iron fist tournaments, so she can exact her revenge on Heihachi for killing her family.
I usually skip past long script but this was worth stopping for, thanx.
I had tekken 3 and i haven't even had a ps1
Good video as always!
I had 3 copies and 2 pirated copies and IDK where one of the original copies comes from.
Bleemcast?
@@aweofme I just played it on the ps2 lol
i really enjoy watching your videos. you have a really good way of building critique and commentary that's engaging so it makes it really easy to just keep watching a bunch of your videos
Thank you!
Dude that stage in tekken 1 scared me as a kid too
You always put very great efforts in your videos you deserve so much More Likes
This is really some great work you've done here. It's all put together so well. You do seem well rested and energized since cutting back on the uploads. Looking forward to a hopeful Suda 51spotlight feature.
DUDE! I hadn't even thought of that. There's a few game's he's done that I still want to review. But a Suda Spotlight does same like a really nice video to close on.
dude why do your videos put a smile on my face and make total sense? CAUSE YOU ARE AWESOME!!!
I've been subscribed for a while and I'm always impressed by the amount of effort that goes into these videos. Most small channels will complain in a vlog "GUYS BE PATIENT I'M TRYING MY BEST!!!!!!" and upload infrequently. But you keep goin. Hope this shit blows up one day, you deserve it.
Also you should check out Bloodyroar, love that series even though it's bad.
Yeah I plan to. Though I do kinda want a break from fighting games after all this Tekken playing haha.
Tekken tag makes me feel all kinds of right
Whoa I was looking for this video awhile back but couldn't find. Glad its back
Katsuhiro Harada was the co-director for Tekken 3, Masahiro Kimoto also directed Tekken 3. Harada only took full creative control from Tekken 6 to onwards.
I love Tekken 3. It was my first fighting game when I was a kid, also the best fighting game on the PS1 for sure.
At last! I was waiting for this!
At LAST? Are you fucking serious?
Final fantasy 3 DS and Parasite Eve music. Wow your music taste rocks man :D awesome videos about the Tekken series
Tekken 3 was pretty much half my childhood
cool. cant wait for part two
5:00 is still one of the most genius layering of vocal gags Ive ever seen all these years after.
I loved Tekken 3 as a child and I love this retrospective review! However, I've always been more of a Soul Edge fan, so if you could please just do a retrospective of them all someday, that would be amazing!
Yeah I'd love to! Soul Edge / Calibur is my fav fighting game series next to Tekken.
Especially the second.
Really loved this video.
Tekken 3 might be better but Tekken 2 just has such a unique feel and atmosphere that I love it so much. The music, the stages, it's wonderful. The first three Tekkens also have unique stages and music for every character. I miss that.
Another good one Thor, you should do one on Final Fantasy or resident Evil, both has fascinating changes with each installment to discuss :)
Yeah. I think doing one on FF would kill me though haha. Soooo many games, and all of them are pretty long too. I do plan to do one on the FF7 compilation and spin offs specifically, at some point..
Glad to see someone addressing the jarring and unexpected nightmare fuel of Armor King’s stage music lol as well as the wonderful, spacey, shiny, chrome, Y2K aesthetic of Tag Tournament
I use “no (burp) fuck that” in my everyday vocabulary now thanks!
Ugh, these retrospectives are so good it breaks my heart that they don’t have more views! THH needs more subs, these folks is sleepin on a giant here! Oh well, I grew up a punk so I’m sure if THH got big I’d just be annoyed and tell everyone “I dug his channel BEFORE it was big” for a while before finally declaring the channel sold out and go to find another small channel to complain no one is watching...the circle of life.
Also, early tekken taught me the lessons that no one cares, as my aunt got me the first one for a birthday and I hated it and this complained about it all year like a brat, and then the same aunt got me the sequel because she said I was always talking about the last one so much I must’ve really enjoyed it, thus highlighting that the adults in my life only actually listened to about a quarter of what I said. But then I fell in absolute love with tekken 2 and began my longstanding love affair with my homeboy Kazuya and his DEVIL GEEEEEEENNE ARGGHHHH!
Also I rented the tekken anima movie (it’s like one of my anime movies! -otacon) and my prepubescent brain thought it was just...so cool. So that happened.
Also, I keep editing this comment to add other childhood tekken memories (every “also” is an edit, and I don’t even wanna admit to all the others), so basically it’s just dawning on me that I need a friend.
Lol I always thought that Tekken Advance WAS a port of Tekken 3. (owned the catridge with this game, some of the best days of my life beacause I NEVER in my life owned a PS but I owned Game Boy Advance and Sega Mega Drive as a kid)
I actually only had Tekken 2... :\
sad
to be fair Tekken 2 is still pretty fun. I still go back to it every once and a while just to take in the music and the art direction.
that red desert and that song got to me too as a kid haha
How on Earth do you have such a unique way of narrating? I'm amazed there aren't 50 different types of this stuff already.
Love it.
Kazuya's in Smash! Fuck yeah!
My favorite Tekken games are 3, 5, and TTT2.
I’ll never forget how my Dad tried to explain that the Tekken 2 FMV’s we’re predictive programming.
*Subliminal messaging even.
11:51 KING SPENT TOO MUCH THAT HIS SCHOOL HAS A CARTIER CLOCKFACE
The main appeal the Tekken series had for me was that Martial Law looked like Bruce Lee. I grew up watching his movies and other martial art movies in the theatres. Later, way before the PS1 came out, I also used to watch every Saturday King's manga series protecting the orphanage he grew up in.
And they put in Jackie Chan's clone, Lei Wu Long, making this my favourite fighting game series ever.
That Yoshimitsu laying on the ground part is fucking hilarious 😂
Love it!
Even my ex had Tekken 3 back then.
She don't even liked fighting games...
5:14 man i feel the struggle. I tried playing tekken 2 on ps1 for the first time because i've heard that the game was a major leap from tekken 1. So i was curious as to how good the game would be. And then i play it, and wow the physics. The fundamental physics of the game was just really bad compared to tekken 3. I can't enjoy it in the end all because of that.
Also, you left me in stitches with this skit
Tekken 3 is the game where the gameplay was at it's best
Angry Heihachi 22:41
Wow, just wow. I have never heard someone describe tekken 3 in this way before. Genuinely had me laughing 22:54
I remember having Tekken 3 with that beginning Galaga loading game
And it never EVER went to the main menu
I'll still be mad about that to this day
I only had Tekken 1 growing up and I have to say that well.....the fmv intro absolutely terrified me as a child
Fucking UHMAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYZING. I really enjoyed this video; the laughs were super high & consistent and I felt like I was learning so much about Tekken that even playstation diehards failed to explain to me before. I honestly feel like this might be a fighting game for me cuz recently I was complaining to some friends exactly why I was kinda hating them recently - memorizing all the contextual combos and movements to be good. So it's super refreshing that this is something where you can just pick it up pretty easily. I'm straight up considering buying tekken 7. lol. I know this was probably an undertaking and a half with it being 30 min, but shit-damn did it work!
😂😂😂😂 You are so funny and technical at same time
12:18 is that a super sloweed-down version of Crying At The Discoteque?
I know you meant chloroform, but the visual of a bunch of guys trying to knock out some other guy with a rag soaked in bleach was a treat
the Tekken 2 intro gave me nightmares as a kid
Tekken 1 fmv faces:
Nina: disgusted
Law: busting a nut
King: putting the rave in rave war
Nina: idk
Did you just say scruffy Chav? How do you know what a Chav is? We call em skangers, scumbags or scobes here in Ireland but familiar with the word Chav due to proximity to the UK. You truly are a man of world culture
When I was born my dad got this game with PlayStation 1, I love this game so much and it pains me I broke the game twice!
22:38 I dunno why but I just kept staring at the screen for some reason, and lost all senses of what wad going on around me
Man, that takes me back! I loved Tekken's crazy story. So enjoyable and weird.
Having played all old Tekken games extensively when they came out, Tekken 2 and TTT are my favorite "classic" Tekken games. They both have a great soundtrack and have style that I don't feel are there in Tekken 1 and 3. Yes, Tekken 2 is very stiff, but since I know the game from "back then" it is still playable to me. I really don't like the Tekken 3 soundtrack, it definitely bothers me when playing the game nowadays so I just play TTT which is better in most aspects anyways.
Xiaoyu's Tag 1 Portrait is Nightmare Fuel.
16:13 better with a smoothie
Curious what song starts up at 23:07. Scratching my head to remember where it's from, if it's not from lightly binging on your videos.
Persona 5 - Beneath The Mask
I must've watched the intro to Tekken 3 a thousand times back in the day and it still looks alright now. Not by modern standards obviously but waaaaaaaay better than the fucking horror show FMV's in Tekken 1 and 2.
Anyway, review Onimusha!!!!
the tekken 1 loading screens are the best
I still have every copy of every Tekken i own, even the ones no one buys, and 3 still the best
Watching Tekken Advance gameplay made it harder for me to breath
you were playing the PAL (European) version of Tekken 1 and 2, that's why it's so slow, the NTSC version (USA/Japan) has the right speed: czcams.com/video/fRITM4cOHaA/video.html
Anyone know the name of the track used during the Tekken advance review?
Nice
In Tekken 1&2 all i did was spam the triangle when floored and I always get uo fast. Red that on tekken Tag 1 manual or sth
Jin and Kazuya: when they say you look a lot like your dad...
I tried playing Tekken 2 on the t5 disc and played Jun (I'm main Asuka) and the game felt weird compared to 3 onward. Anyways, you're pretty good at dissecting gameplay.
Thanks! I felt pretty unsure about my ability to dissect this stuff, as I'm not that much into fighting games at all. So I appreciate the feed back!
I bought Tekken 3 as my second game. On my PS2. All said.
I never knew Tekken 3 was on GBA. Heck, a few weeks or months ago. I found out that kof 99 was on GBA as well
10:30 True true true! I forgot how weird and ...effing neatos the musics were in this effing game ! MUCH better than the ACID FARTY DIARRHEA we started to get in TEKKEN 3 and higher
Bro you have to press triangle before you hit the ground to get back up quickly in tekken 2
18:46 What is Stonehenge doing in Jun's level?
Anyone know the name of the song at the beginning? Can't find it.
Tekken 1 had no side stepping sorry had to correct you there.
yeah that whole "mini game while loading" patent was ridiculous
up until 2015 no one was allowed to put a minigame in their loading screen even though a lot of games from 1995 to 2015 could have benefited from it thanks to their long ass loading times
also I used to play the japanese version of tekken 3 because guess what? the western release of the game was slowed down
Can't believe he didn't pull a single proper combo in the whole video lol
2:26 What game is it? I remember playing it on a Demo disk and I loved it.
Destrega!
2:11 what was the name of this game?
Gon but not forgotten, EH SEE WHAT I DID THERE
Cheeky.
13:08 👍
09:45 Dät is wei ei leik juh. :)
It took me a while to puzzle together that last bit haha.
❤️❤️❤️❤️
I only owned the first Tekken, but played the shit outta the Tekken 3 demo on Playstation Underground
Are there any other "disciplined" Fighting games like Bushido Blade and Tekken 1, where fighters fight like actual fighters and not do impossible combos and juggling?
Not that I know of. Though I'm sure there's some obscure SNK game somewhere that plays like that.
What game is show between 2:26 - 2:34 ? Anyone? @ThorHighHeels
Destrega for the PS1
9:46 It was Tekken Wan
10:15 hehe red
>carefully placed attacks and all that precise shit
yeah my big sister always used to win and that was by literal button mashing
Who has excellent taste and mains Lee?
3:29 i think you mean chloroform there bud.
If you play Tekken 3 enough times all the characters and modes unlock
