Yooo that tekken 2 intro hits right in the childhood! I'm 29 and tekken 2 was the first entry for me I played while I was only 3-4 years old it will forever hold a place in my heart, It got to the point when my mum would have to take the game disc off me cause I'll stay up all night playing it 😂😂
I re-watched the part showing Tekken 2's introduction about 3 times; it's just that good. It's astonishing to me how much this series improved after Tekken 1. Tekken 2 was the first Tekken title I played, when my Kindergarten teacher allowed us to bring video games to class. To me, it was obvious that Tekken 1 was just a rush job that namco released in response to the overwhelming success of Virtua Fighter. It doesn't age well. However, starting with the 2nd game, namco really stepped up their game. Not only did this series become one of namco's flagship game franchises, but also it surpassed Virtua Fighter, at least in terms of commercial success and popularity.
yup!! I'm always surprised when people say Tekken 1 was their first Tekken and that they enjoyed it ..... if I had started with 1 instead of 2, I'm not sure if I'd be a fan of the series either ..
Let's go!!! This video should have more views. You do such a good job Analizing the Tekken chsracters. Tekken really has such an interesting and dynamic story. Its a shame it hasn't been fully shown before.
Tekken 2 simply changed the genre and market. to think the sequel of a Virtua Fighter clone would dethrone Street Fighter and Mortal Kombat into irrelevancy for years to come.
Interestingly enough, Kazuya's Japanese bio in Tekken 2 also mentions "He is working to establish his ideal independent state in Hokkaido, and currently has most of Hokkaido in hands"
Other than heihachi being the final boss in Tekken 1, I truly feel that Tekken 2 was meant to be the true Tekken 1. Like, I feel Tekken 1 was just a 3D render demo to show investors that Namco knew how to animate 3D polygonal models and Namco just took those 3D assets and made it into a videogame half baked videogame.
That a good thought especially since thr first game was rushed out because of Virtua Fighter, they didn't have time to perfect it, but this game was the birth of perfecting thier formula
I enjoy your Tekken retrospectives. I find them relaxing since I'm a longtime fan of the Tekken series its like reliving nostalgia for me. I just want to know where you found the information for these character bios? I've never heard about these in-depth lore before
Thanks for enjoying it, I have more coming out soon for the Series. The character bios come from a mix of information whether its from a magazine article or if its from the manual that comes with the game, they tell the story behind the characters that you never knew about.
The best, and most unique part of this retrospective is the information on the character's backgrounds, excellent job with this as most do not bother to. Two gripes I have is that you pronounced all of the non English names wrong (The announcer does as well, lol.) aside from Lei, Jun, and Kuma, and that you didn't speak much about the phenomenal OST. Otherwise great job, and thanks for covering one of my favorite games of all time!

Tekken 3&4 are my favs to play in single player mode. 4 is sluggish as hell in two player mode and no good competitively though. Unplayable imo
