Thanks, Zomb's Lair. They have a pretty cool website.
fantastic, sharing the love is appreciated. glad you put in the effort to archive all these archives. the video was good too, i'll play Gadget this weekend
Boiling Point: Road to Hell
When he opened the suitcase at 6:30, seeing that it was filled with completely normal things scared me so much and I have no idea why
It's more common to see weapons, money or drugs in those. So seeing something normal is weird, for a change.
That's what I think.
I was expecting something weird too, Thor was "hyping" it by being silent, but then the realization there was nothing weird inside, together with him talking again kinda tricks our heads into thinking there would be a scare.
As a Mac user in the 90s I only got the reference to Marathon. Thank you for the weird shit.
aló buenas tardes, gato
el furro mamado de aquella campaña de dnd, oleeee.
Thor, your whole presentation is so crunchy I sometimes can't tell what's old game footage and what's not. If that sounds like I'm complaining I am _not_ 🖤
Macintosh Garden is the shit. My parents didn't let me have a console as a kid, so weird early 90's Mac games are my entire childhood.
I’m surprised more people don’t know about that Kyoto game since it looks exactly like kind of “cursed game” you’d find people talking about on paranormal forums in the late 2000s
I do and the only reason is because I was coming of age 2000s. Since my family computer was not powerful play may games on Dos emulation. Which was rabbit would lead me To a treasure trove of abandonware.
One rather amazing thing to mention is that Marc Laidlaw (the former writer for the Half-Life series) wrote a tie-in novel of Gadget called The Third Force: A Novel of Gadget in the mid-90s and the book is still available to buy in print on Amazon(!)
WIIIIILD WOODY!
What is that?
Some kind of Buck Bumble or something?
@@TheRealAmericanMan yeah kinda. But a pencil. And a Sega CD exclusive. And horrifying.
Yo. Dude. Woody, my man-chill the fuck out.
You rang?
Look at his prolapse
People should always be reminded of how cool Cosmology of Kyoto is.
@@whiteydiamond *twice. You underestimate the allure of Roger Ebert adjacent trivia. 😎
0:30 Nice Vinesauce reference lol
Of course someone as cool as THH would be a Vinesauce enjoyer
I thought I was trippin, so it actually was a reference huh?
@@antiproductive4131 It even got the pizzapasta musics
I thought second tab opened with a stream in it xD
He even talked about penis music, there is no way he doesn't know Vinny lol
Chu-Teng, the sequel to Eastern Mind, now has an English translation released about a month or two ago. It’s very good! If you’re curious, I’ve uploaded a snippet of gameplay and all the links you’d need to play it in a video on my channel. Shoutout to the translators for doing such a good job.
THH, your channel has become one of my favorite things to watch whenever I have a few minutes to spare. The content, art direction, script, narration and sound design ooze personality and charm. Keep up the good work. Thank you~
THH research draft: Presents well thought-out and worded material
THH final thesis: I mean, just look at it
I'm not Japanese, but when I was younger I did have a Mac. A 68k Centris no less, the whole Synergy Inc first person puzzle/point and click games were a huge thing back then, there were Demo discs just full of this kind of stuff. Kind makes me have a bit of a blast from the past.
right at the time of my lunch
nothing makes me more happy than seeing my lunch while eating Thor
Oh
And here i was thinking this channel couldn't get more exotic and weird lmao
For real though this is actually fascinating.
I still remember hearing about D's plot and loving it in the same vein as The 7th Guest, both being talked about how dark and fascinating they were, and the scarring I had from the mental imagery I had when the plots for both were described to me. Funny how years later both looked a little goofier than what was playing in my head lol
What a coincidence, i was watching a documentary call "Tokyo Noise" where they interviewed the game developer Haruhiko Shono, who is the responsable of "Alice" and "Invention travel & adventure". i started playing those games and thinking that they will fit perfectly on this channel.
"Anime looks like this... Change my mind"
I can't....... You killed me 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Japanese PC games in the 90's had such an esoteric style, I really dig it.
Not even close to a unique take if I had to guess, but you are the most calming channel to watch and/or listen to on this entire site. Like seriously, even when you are talking about the creepiest most obscure and unknown games out there, it still is so relaxing to just watch these videos.
Not unique but 100% facts
real good shit to watch late at night with dim to no light in the room
This whole video is terribly related to my interests. This stuff I've always deeply admired but never could find a whole lot about, so I'm really excited to see a video like this that's not only super informative, but just a joy to watch. I peeked at Zomb's Lair and it has so many of the games I was tangentially curious about but didn't really know how to look more up about (and also Zoombinis), so that's just super cool. I'm super happy this video exists.
I was thinking about rewatching some of you're old videos minutes ago ... I'm damn surprised to receive a new one instead!
Thor has really come a long way since I stumbled upon him 4 years ago. love to see it.
Thorhigheel upload is something that keep me alive at this point...
DAMN I NEED A OOO YHA ZHE ART GIF IN TENOR
Glad to see Cosmology of Kyoto getting some love. I loved that game since my teens, a friend of mine introduced it to me and it has become one of my all-time favs. There's nothing quite like it, from artstyle to the OST. Plus, a built-in encyclopedia and a lot of japanese history & supernatural stuff from the Heian period. I encourage everyone to give it a go, it's just so engrossing... Thanks for covering it, man.
A whole set of games I didn't even know I loved listed almost nowhere but here, please keep doing series like this!
Oh, Thor. That Bible Black joke hit me waaay to hard!
Some other obscure groupings of games: Non-English European games (you can find them searching this way (just avoid the ones that are obviously ports of English language games and there is a suprising number of non-English releases that exist) www.emuparadise.me/roms/gamebrowser.php?sort=name_Ascending&per_page=100®ions%5B%5D=Germany®ions%5B%5D=Spain®ions%5B%5D=France®ions%5B%5D=Netherlands®ions%5B%5D=Sweden®ions%5B%5D=Denmark®ions%5B%5D=Russia®ions%5B%5D=Italy®ions%5B%5D=Brazil) , cga pc games, also games with gameplay dynamics rare or no where else such as the reverse movement of Bobobo-bo Bo-bobo Hajike Festival), and also some of the more obscure Japanese rhythm games such as うたうたウ〜 SEIREI-SONGS (ps1) the adventure/rhythm game (there is a Japanese language play through that exists with Japanese closed captions that can be Auto-translated to English sorta but no English player has covered this czcams.com/video/_Zz50Wvj5GM/video.html&lc=UgySLsGsK57wGXjnrIN4AaABAg), Lupin The 3RD Punch The onkey! - Game Edition)
Ahhhh so happy to see Gadget getting more notice and love despite being insanely niche and experimental. Since discovering this channel, it has become one of my favourites since you seem to gravitate towards games that have a distinct aesthetic to them that I have always loved and focus on the art of it all. Also a lot of focus on the early, experimental phase of 3D games with what with your Saturn and PS1 hidden gems...an era that I have so much nostalgia and passion for that I've been toying around with making games in that style with Godot but, unfortunately, am not quite there skills-wise yet. Unrelated: but who do I have to bribe in order for you to make stickers of your avatar? I'd love having it on my turntable.
I really do love your videos,, it's such a pleasure to be able to watch. no time for vidya anymore, so this is my gateway into that world... feels like when I was a kid, never having any games, hearing about the wildest shit from friends and filling in the gaps with my imagination. catching fragments of stories and worlds, watching them play on slow sunday afternoons. it's a really magical quality that these videos are able to take on :)
Thanks for the mention! If there was one weird game I’d want to get mentioned for playing Jungle Park is high on the list. Now if I could just figure out how to beat the game...or if you even can?
Man, I've been watching silently for a long time now and just wanted to say: your videos are SO good! Thank you for hours upon hours of delight!
I wonder if these things had any significant influences for Suda, Swery, etc.
The painting on the left at 3:34 looks lovely : )
Missed you baby boy.
The moment I saw the cover for garage:bad dream adventure I knew this was gonna be a good one.
a shame he didn't include any gameplay
Hey Thor! An anonymous Macintoshgarden user here! Thanks a lot for referencing the site! If you ever want to do a follow-up to this video do not hesitate to ask for help on the forum (or at MacRumors subforum "PowerPC") when it comes to emulators (Basilisk, Mini vMac, all those can be a bit a of a pain in the a$$ sometimes) or anything. Also there are always new uploads on the MG, and even this week some kind of a Japanese cat simulator has been uploaded: so keep digging on the MG for Japanese strangeness and you'll surely find something interesting!
Thanks for the great video! There's so much research behind it, I'm honestly kind of amazed. Really digging this subject and I might try playing Gadget or Cosmology of Kyoto!
Bro I love your channel! Please never stop. These videos are awesome
Dendy meme really hits when you from ex-USSR, kek
Always commend your editing skills, bravo. Love this vid and the many many others you have put out.
At 5:03 did he just say that the Residents invented "penis music"?
well, they kinda did
@@YenPox69 is there some album this is reference too? Or is he saying that the people who listen to them are penises and that joke just flew over my (penis) head? With all their other weird concepts a penis themed song or album wouldn't be too out of place
Fascinating collection of games you got here and the amount of research you put in shows. Cheers man
This is what I needed! I have looked for more old point and click games and thought I found them all but here are some new ones!
Was literally just thinking about how much I miss watching your videos and Algo read my mind
I just found your channel last night and oh boy, I am here for it. This is for the algorithm 🤙🏻
Dude this video was awesome, didn't know about any of these! THanks!
I can't believe Lynch almost made a game. Synergy seems like a perfect studio for him. I'm heartbroken it didn't go through. I will be playing Gadget for sure, almost want to buy or make a shirt for it.
This was such a fun watch! Love seeing you just talking and being yourself. This was such a cool topic too. Thanks for shedding some light on this obscure stuff dude
"I DONT HAVE A FUCKING CATCH PHRASE PISS OFF"
This is the content I subscribed for.
thanks for always sharing these neat recesses of vidya game history with us!
Interaction for the sake of the almighty algorithm. Fear it, dodge it, love it.
I too am doing engagement
Mmm ahhh yes more communication below the video for our benevolent computation gods
Thank you so much for all the links! Zomb's Lair has tons of games to check out, and I'm really happy they have The Zoombinis on it, since that was a game I loved as a kid but haven't played in a long time.
That gadget game looks incredible. Definitely going to play that asap. I really appreciate your videos man :)
This channel is an absolute delight. Keep it up :)
Words cannot describe, how much i enjoy all content of you. You are one of the most outstanding personalities on CZcams. And you strike a chord with every video and topic you bring onto this platform. Also your music is great and just very much my vibe. It feels like in another timelime we would have been friends. Never change my dude, never change.
Shoutouts to Bazinga351 for the internet archeology and preservation.
Thank you for showing off some real obscure shit. I love knowing stuff like this exists
Japanese Macintosh games are really interesting. Thanks for this video!
14:30 Oh shit, LEGO Island police station music!
That's Why I love this channel. I would never even find out one of these games without this video.
Thank you for bringing me inspiring shit since the day I found your channel last year. You never disappoint.
The collection chamber was my best discovery in this month. Thanks man!
you are a deity - thank you so SO MUCH for this
Hey Thor your shit's really fucking cool I appreciate it a lot! It's always such a joy when you show this stuff off.
One of the few channels where you actually miss out on a lot if you don't WATCH the video. The editing on this channel and gd-work adds such a ton of enjoyment!
the best youtube video ever made
just wanted to thank you for your videos, ive really enjoyed watching them all and have helped me get through bad days.
i'd really donate to your patreon if i had money
That reminds me of good old Macromedia Director. Waaay before Flash. Loved to mess with it as a kid. I even learned Lingo back then!
Some of these games were made in Director (Alice, Gadget, Cosmology of Kyoto were for sure). They were also released on Windows because Director made porting between operating systems relatively easy.
This is super cool! I've been playing a lot of 90's mac games as well, and it's really a world unto itself.
Man, you make the best stuff
Have no idea how you became my favourite youtuber, but every video of yours is a fucking fiesta for me
I fuckin freaked out then I heard you yell "DENDY DENDY SO GOOD"
you can still by that shit at a low price at any electronics shop in Russia by the way
I thought i heard a italian music and accent yet I know Dendy is russian.
@@SUPERNOVASTV thor language jokes, as usual
Ugh... I hate Dendy so much xD To this day so many russians think Dendy IS NES
@@nikitalobo9337 well, on a hardware level, it actually is
and it had so many janky shit, it's amazing
In 90's, you can go to official (huh) Dendy store, and buy yourself some taiwanese jank at full price, like Super Mario 16 and Contra 5
and this was just some romhacks
@@nikitalobo9337 блять я щас только что понял, что ты русский чувак, и нахуя я вообще это все рассказываю, ты наверняка все это знаешь)
Holy shit thank you for doing this research and showing these off
Please the Windows japanese games next!! I love how you touch up and explore weird games in your channel. Keep it up Thor! Your content is so interestingest
God I love your videos
Sharp X68000 aesthetic is peak 90's japan computing
Just wanted to say your style is The Shit! love your content and have a great day
I have no idea what I just watched, and I love it.
Thanks Thor.
Jesus fucking christ that ending scared the shit out of me! I jumped so badly and then cackled.
I wanted to jump the gun and say Congratulations on 100K! Been following this channel a while and you deserve the future milestone for sure.
I love the GROTESQUE stretching noises at 11:16 where you're talking about Donald Hom's mocap
Thank you for introducing me to a whole new world of weird I never knew I needed in my life.
I had a demo of Gadget around 20 years ago. I never played the actual game but that demo has stuck with me ever since. I had never heard of anyone else talking about it before now. I definitely want to give it a go now.
Great! More obscure stuff to obsess on having (yeah dream on).
Great video!
The music. In the background sounds like some from The Neverhood. I love that game. I like clay models in games I hope those come back but I realize its very labour intensive. One can dream.
what a great recommended video from CZcams.
New thor just what I needed today thank you
Gadget resonates deeply
New to the channel and here to stay. It's like I'm watching DemoD but he's reviewing obscure vidya instead of anime
Wel na jaren weer Garage: Bad Dream Adventure en Kowloon's gate gevonden thanks
Good vid
getting strong off-peak / cosmo d vibes from that gadget game. wonder if he was influenced by this stuff at all. another great vid, thor!
Man those commercials and Japanese Mac interface right at the start really brought back the memory of watching Perfect Blue one night. When Rumi was setting up a PC for Mima, how the thing had Netscape installed, and how garish the fanpage font was.
Been wondering how long it'd take you to find the Synergy Inc, and here we are. Good shit.
Damn man that takes me back. When I watched perfect blue it was the first time I ever felt simultaneously confused and enthralled.
This reminds me of a game I played in my childhood.
My school had donated macs from STEVE JOBS himself due to him donating Macs to every reservation.
We had a color mac and it had a very secret hypercard based game. I forget the name but it played alot like Synergys games and I cannot remember the name of it.
Weird clicking to progress, hidden items that caused weird stuff to happen. And all only on one computer in the computer lab, hidden away in a system subfolder only to be opened by curious minds.
Why are you so good at making these videos my d00d
the way you present all this stuff is just mindblowing. just saying.
Dude I fucking love how you still cover obscure af shit.
The 𝐸𝒳𝒫𝐸𝑅𝐼𝐸𝒩𝒞𝐸 jump...joke? still gets me. I laughed 10 full seconds
i fucking love stuff like this please keep talking about it. some day i will stop being lazy and depressed and make something.
