adding on to the uniform point there's some amazing trousers at marks and spencers that have a special 3 cm hem that can be unplucked in the middle of the year/when it needs to be so that it will last the kids a little bit longer, i shall try and find a link and put it below, think its a great idea

Best tips: shoes they can put on and off themselves AND containers and water bottles they can open. I worked for a school in the Kindergarten class AND aftercare. These were two big things that I noticed kids needing help with and having to wait around for help and missing out on activities and snack time because they couldn't do it themselves.

Thank you for making this video. I’m an older first time mom and none of our friends and family have school age children anymore, so this helped me plan for things I didn’t even consider. Also, thank you for showing your vulnerability. It was very brave! And it really helps in feeling that those feelings are normal and tough despite most of the world perhaps not viewing it that way

I cried when she tried her uniform on, she only goes to preschool 2 days a week so it's going to be so strange her not being here, but she loves learning and socialising so I know she will love it and blossom. I looked at her the other day and she seemed so grown up. Good luck for September and enjoy the summer xxx

Perfect timing! I have been watching your you tube channel for a few years now right from when I was pregnant with my daughter (almost 4). It has since progressed into something we often watch together and she loves seeing your boys. My daughter is starting a British International school in Singapore (in reception) and I found this really helpful. Stressing as a first time school mum and your positive vibe and just general info is awesome.
Just also wanted to note: loved your nut allergy updates on CZcams and the Instagram live chat as my 9month old has a number of food allergies we have been navigating. We also love your honey mustard slow cooker recipe is awesome! I make this using dairy free options - Coconut Cream, and I just made it tonight with maple syrup instead of honey (because I ran out #improvisemoment).

My youngest starts preschool at the local school in September, she has been at a private nursery since she was 9 months old but it still feels like a big step, I think it’s the uniform, it makes them look so grown up. We can’t talk about it just yet in our house, as she is just too excited to go and is so impatient to be a big girl, saying that she has always been impatient arriving in the work at just 4lbs 5 weeks early.

As a ex TA I’d say practice folding and putting clothes in a pile and also putting their socks inside their shoes if/when they have to take them off. If a child can keep together their belongings it makes it much quicker and easier for all involved but the basic socks inside shoes is a MUST!! 😂

Another tip, from a parent that's son starting year 1. A teacher once said, memory games, like put 5 toys under a blanket, remove one, get them to guess which one, and also, following instructions. Sounds daft, but my son would follow one, and forget the other two. So memory is a big one, along with play dough and messy play, getting pincers grip is essential for holding a pen/pencil. It builds up their strength for writing x

This is a really great video but it's making me so nervous because you're raising such good points. My daughter is 4 now and she will only be in pre school next year. But gosh I haven't even thought of some of the things you are mentioning now.. thanks so much ❀

Super useful information and tips. Really well considered. Good luck to you too Emily and Matt. It is an adjustment for you - another season in life. I remember when my youngest went to kinder/school, l felt l’d lost a limb for a bit. It’s interesting that the school year starts in September in the UK. ( for prep) It makes sense to give the young ones a start for 3-4 months before Christmas break though. đŸ§Ąâ€ïž

My daughter (3) is going from daycare (size of a small garden apartment) to a big preschool (my son went to Pre-K there at 4 yo and this year they’re expanding to offer a 3 yo program.) I’m super emotional about September! Not quite sure when I should start talking to her about it but it’ll be here before we know it 😳
