Gotta say I like the idea of that downpipe, but damn I love the hiss sound the factory one makes... it makes the truck for me. But I definitely see the reasoning behind it
Dude great video! I’ve got an LBZ duramax and after watching this video you made up my mind she is getting a new down pipe haha
I'll tell you right now you won't be disappointed. She will sound better, and she will perform better. I kick myself quite a bit for not doing it sooner! Definitely worth the small investment!
Great video 👍🏽 I hated the lag to mine still has a small one after the downpipe install but it's not to bad
Your explanation of how it lagged cracked me up lol.
I do what I can!
I personally love the screaming dragon screech of my lbz with a 5 inch mbrp straight pipe stock down pipe
To each his own. That's the great thing about this world. Every person can have a build they like. And I gotta admit, it sounds good no matter which down pipe you have.
@@DMaxBrax agree
I agree. I want to go aftermarket for sure but the bald eagle scream is something I absolutely love about these trucks.
I wanna hear it
So if I got this right a 5inch straight Diamond eye will fit a mbrp down pipe?
Yes, both are made to mate up to stock components, i.e. downpipe fits stock exhaust. Therefore they both will mount to each other.
The heat shield doesn't have to go back on correct?
No. I haven't had one for several years with no issues
So where did you purchase the new pipe from ?
Straight from mbrps website
Great video can you give me the place where you bought your down pipe for your truck I have a Duramax 6.6 LLY engine that is stock and do you need to put a tune on it afterwards. Thanks 👍
I bought mine straight from mbrp, I think it's like mbrpstore.com or something. They usually have a discount code, too. But xdp is also a great place for stuff like that. Also, no. No tuning required.
Did u have to replace the clamps or did u reuse the original ones.
Reused all the clamps.
Did it bolt right on? Did you delete the up pipe
Bolted right in place of the stock one. It fits around the stock up pipe too, so no need to change any of that .
What about the y bridge
Definitely worth it, but way more involved to install. The stock one sucks, so it is one upgrade I definitely recommend.
Great video brother 👍🏻
I appreciate the feedback!
DMaxBrax my LML is in the shop right now getting deleted and im glad I went with the Downpipe after seeing your video👍🏻
Trust me, after driving it you'll love the difference, though with the tunes, you won't really know how much the downpipe made. But for a small investment, it's truly worth it
DMaxBrax I’m going from completely stock so it’ll all me new to me. First deleted diesel. Can’t wait!
Man lemme tell you, you'll enjoy it. Good luck keeping tires on the back! Don't have too much fun
What kind of tune do you have
Duramaxtuner jack dsp5 tunes.
Do you have an EGR blocker plate on? Or no?
I think I did at that point, but it's not a great idea. The up pipe will fail eventually if you do that. Do yourself a favor and do it right
@@DMaxBrax Well I was going to do a full delete but than your looking at y bridge failure so its pick your poisen
@@VladimirKolombet well, the y-bridge failure was brought on moreso by the cheap parts I used. If you get a quality cold side pipe for the factory y-bridge, it should last. I used a cheap ebay pipe. If you could feel the weight difference between that and my current pipe, you'd be shocked. Go with a werhli or something. Get quality, then you won't have the issues I did.
@@DMaxBrax Well I watched truckmasters egr delete installation videos and it seemed like he was dealing with a lot of boost leaks after so I don't want to run into other issues like that either
Nature of the beast I suppose. Sometimes you'll have issues with things. However, I think that'll be far less likely with quality parts
DID YOU HAVE A PROBLEM GETTING THE BOLTS FROM THE DOWN PIPE OUT?
They are a pain, but with a little persistence and patience, you can get them out pretty well. The worst part of the whole thing is pulling the old pipe out of the truck.
I worry about snapping them off in the turbo
There's only one v-band clamp on the turbo. If it breaks, worst case scenario, you have to buy a new clamp, no drilling out bolts or anything. But it should pop right off.
@@MIKE-mg5ks think your talking about the up pipes! Gotta soak them for few days first. And maybe use a torch.
I love the hiss sound! 2006 LBZ
2006 is an LLY
Not exactly. In 2006 the physical engine design changed to the LBZ design. However due to the tuning not passing EPA inspections on time some 2006 model year trucks were released with an LBZ motor with LLY tuning and branded an LLY. However, an overwhelming majority are LBZ diesels inside and out
2006 to 2007 & 1/2 are LBZ kid. I own one
@@molonlabe7750 2004.5 Lly to lbz, I have a lly, 2006 is a lbz
3” down pipe 4” flo pro love mine
Did you see a notice in egt?
I didn't have a pyrometer at the time, however, when I put the stock back on, the truck did feel like it took more throttle to do things, and fuel mileage went down. So to me, using more fuel=higher egts
kelly1986 my truck was stock before and figured do it all at once...definitely a deeper stronger turbo whistle I have cts2 monitor and prob to keep an eye on everything
It is definitely worth it. You can tell by the seat of your pants.
You will be changing it a little after the warranty is up and that usually last 3 yrs. Good look, PPE is by far the best.
Well, if you notice in one of my later videos, I had to take it off and weld it back up as it cracked, but that was my own fault because my exhaust was putting a lot of pressure on it. Other than that, it's been holding up well. If this one does fall apart, guess I'll be trying the PPE next.
War Eagle, Brother!
War Damn!!!
So nearly a year later - still work the money and hassle to invest in a new downpipes?
Hell yes. I've had to take that down pipe out twice since I put it in, and it was SO much easier than the stock one. The performance and sound gains are also well worth it. I haven't looked back since. If I ever get another Duramax, it will probably be one of, if not the first thing I do
How much did it help with egts?
Honestly I don't know. I haven't had a pyrometer on the truck until recently, and I did the down pipe before. However, judging by the difference in shape and size, there's no way it couldn't help by what I'd think is a significant amount.
Hey man. I just bought a diesel and I know a lot about them, just not aftermarket. I want to put a straight pipe, downpipe, and Intake on it. Does my truck have to be tuned then to correct the air to fuel ratio? Or will I get performance gains without tuning it. By tune I don’t mean performance tune like EFI live I mean just a correction of the stock tune the right amount of fuel to the motor to actually see the gains in the intake and downpipe and exhaust. Any help from anyone is greatly appreciated
Thanks in advance.
For the intake, no. The air fuel will be set from the mass air flow, and it will show the increased airflow. As for the exhaust, the downpipe shouldn't cause an issue, nor should the exhaust. If your truck has dpf or scr, then you will need to tune it to take those out. If you have a pre-emissions truck, there should be no issues doing any of those mods.
DMaxBrax Sorry for not clarifying. I have an LBZ just like u. Just to sum it all up. I’d be fine running those 3 mods with no tune and I would still see performance gains. Do u have any idea how much I would actually see? The injen I want claims 30hp and 62tq. The downpipe I’ve seen claim 10-15hp and the exhaust about 18-20hp and 30tq. Would I actually get almost 100tq and 60hp out of those?
I know I noticed increase with all three. The thing you'll notice more will be the responsiveness of the truck. Honestly the driveability is so much better that you won't care how much power you gain.
DMaxBrax Thanks man. U were a big help. I thought I would need a custom tune but I didn’t want to do all the EFI live expensive stuff to my truck. Because I wanted to be able to return it to stock if I ever sold it. I really appreciate your help. 1 last thing, do u have any recommendations on brands for the intake and exhaust? I want a deep throaty sound in a 4 inch system. And I whatever the best intake system is to give the best air flow and performance gains.
Dude i dont mean to be rude but do you have gray hair already or what because you sure look way too you for gray hair.
Hahaha, no offense at all. Yeah, I'm currently 25, and I've had gray in my hair since I was 12. Just my family genes. But I always looked at it as I'm glad to have hair, no matter what color. Some people aren't as lucky.
Is your hair legit grey lol. You look like youre 23-25 But good video bro
Yep, family trait. Better than losing it though! And I'm 24, so.... Thanks for the support!
Lol im balding. Im 23 haha 😂😭lol
Man, that sucks. You have my sympathy on that one!
@@DMaxBrax Don't feel bad I started going grey at 23 and now I'm 38 and 90% grey. Thanks for vid I just bought an LBZ to play with and leave my manual cummins for pulling.
I started going grey at 23 I feel the pain lol
Is your trans built?
No, I wish it was though. That's pretty much my next step, but requires a huge investment. Just waiting on the money.
@@DMaxBrax ok,so do your transmission hold the tune good?
Great, never had any trouble whatsoever. It is a trans safe tune though
@@DMaxBrax ok ,thanks for replying .Love your truck.
Appreciate it. A lot of hard work time and money in it
my dude looks like a 60 year old teenager lots of grey bro. hope its not because of the downpipe install.
No, but getting the stock one out certainly didn't help...
Get rid off all that egr shit and your truck will flow a whole lot better my friend will feel the difference
I didn't notice a whole lot of difference just by taking the egr off, but I will say I hate the idea of putting exhaust in the intake. I has to perform better without that
Grey haired college student
Yep, family trait, can't get rid of it, so why not embrace it. Could always be worse, I could be losing it!
DMaxBrax you’ve got a good point there
Fucking diamond eye 🤦♂️
Show the truck, not your face....
Edit: Can still hear the hiss, sounds no different than stock.
