Replace that restrictive factory downpipe with a MBRP direct replacement downpipe for more flow, fuel economy, and better performance.
While the search for more power for your LLY, LBZ or LMM Duramax powered vehicle usually leads you down the path of exhaust, intake and tuner, one item that is often overlooked is the factory restrictive turbo direct pipe. MBRP has addressed this restrictive component of the factory exhaust with our new turbo direct pipe replacement that mounts between your factory turbo and your exhaust system. Featuring full 16 gauge mandrel bent tubing for maximum flow, and an extremely durable high temperature ceramic coating, these pipes deepen the sound of your V8 diesel engine while lowering EGT's and providing quicker throttle response.

I think im going to have whittys diesel do mine. Im also adding the 6th gear. Im going to have them lock up the convertor in 4th 5th and 6th. By the way, just your opinion on HP ratings. Im running a 50 over block, 64 mm turbo, studded heads, 100 hp injectors, 100 hp fuel air dog, 4 inch stainless off road racing exhaus, bank air rram system. Just finished installing one from PPE. Just a hint to others, I removed the turbo shield by removing the bolts, holding it up off the turbo and cutting it in half front to back with a sawsall. It was easy to get out and I could reinstall it. Thanks for you video it was a great help, as usual.

If anybody sees this, it is the difference between having a headache and making things easy. Unbolt the passenger side body bolts, there’s at least two, mine had 3+ the one extra under the headlight. Raise the body off the frame about an inch and a half on the passenger side only and the job is as easy as can be. The exhaust will fall out, the turbo heat shield will come right off without having to cut it. If one person sees this it was worth posting

Feel blessed your not doing this on an LB7. 3rd night attempting this. Finally got the dipstick bolts out. Turbo heat shield was the easiest. Had to cut the bracket that is above the lower band clamp. Today I finally got the last bolt out of the middle of the long heat shield to remove it. All that is the same between the trucks, however, I have 12 point bolts going all around the turbo that now have to come out compared to one band clamp.

My 2007 GMC 2500 Classic LBZ came shipped without a Turbo Heat Shield. I bought one off eBay for Around $60.00, I used my Metabo with a .045 cutting wheel and cut it in half, using 1 bolt hole on the passenger side and 2 bolt holes on the Drivers side. Put the larger section on the driver's side first then the smaller piece last. Took about 10 minutes and I feel better about the fuel lines and wiring harness being protected from the heat. I'm not telling you to take it off or on, the correct way of taking it off and on is to raise the truck cab off the frame at least 6 inches. If you are working at home there is no way to do this so just cut it in half for easy removal and installation. It was designed for a purpose is all I'm saying. I'm a subscriber to this channel and enjoy the videos even the few I don't agree with Truck Master does a great job explaining and installing.

Great video. My experience was slightly different. The worst part was the heat shield on the turbo. A huge pain. Had to slice off the driver's side section of the heat shield to access the V-band clamp. I also had to remove my trans dipstick completely in order to get the stock down pipe out. Took about two inches off the bottom of it to refit it back into the trans. All in all, this is a huge pain of a job but I really like the smoother, lower toned exhaust sound, and it doesn't screech. Supposed to lower EGT as well. My lower mounting bracket on the aftermarket down pipe did not want to line up.

word of advice, I'm doing this on my truck now and i haven't deleted the EGR yet. There's not much room to get the heat shields off with EGR intact, delete EGR before tackling the down pipe. Your bloody hands will thank you! I'm not going to be able to pull shield up thru like TM did going to see if i can pull it down thru today. If i get the middle bolt on shield off.

later next month came earlier than expected on my down pipe and exhaust install..so I dug into it this weekend..It went pretty smooth except for a few things I hope will help others.
When you remove the turbo heat shield..its makes it a lot easier if you remove the glow-plug module and the bracket..then bend the heat shield in the middle to make it into a shape of a(M) then you can slide it out where the glow plug module was. I was able to put it back in place then bend it back as close as original form..( I was only able to get 2 of the 3 screws back in)
but before you do all that...I would loosen the lower bracket support that holds the down pipe to the exhaust manifold and confirm that the original one is not cracked..(mine was broken in 3 pieces) and they are known to brake They are tack welded onto the exhaust manifold next to each bolt. I removed one bolt at a time and chiseled the broken pieces off.
The bracket is available at dealer if you buy the new down pipe(what a joke) but at ProFab PerformanceProduct Code: lly-lmmdpsupport
The reason why I say to check this first is..you cannot install this bracket unless the down pipe is out of the way.. So my project is on hold until it gets delivered.. Also when you re-clamp the top clamp on the turbo..move the nut to 10 o'clock so you can remove it easier if you ever have to ..the heat shield can be pushed back against the firewall and you have access to the nut.I hope this helps someone..

I really have no use for the extra noise in the cab on long hauls, rather listen to the stereo. My LLY is ready for exhaust and I have considered pairing something like this with a system that includes a muffler like Borla. Hey, thanks again for the solid content. Cheers!

Haha it looked like dex cool at first I thought oh no heater cause of the intense labor involved with replacing a heater core in these 99 up trucks. Lucky me it was just the tube got turned up.

About to do the same, with ppe manifolds and up pipes to my LML. How tough was it to mate the down pipe flush to the turbo? And just wondering, why did you not go with the high flow manifolds when you did the up pipes? I know you mentioned reliability. Can you explain, would be much appreciated to help me avoid a mistake. Thanks bro, great work.

Looks like you have a crack in the exhaust pipe just to the left of the lower dp clamp?

@truck master, was thinking of doing this down pipe on my 07 3500 LBZ.. would it be better to do the up pipes as well and the exhaust manifolds at the same time? I don't plan on touching the turbo or buying oversized injectors... Just want tolower the egt. And make a nice towing machine.. the 07 has 175k on it now. Thoughts?

I've got a similar setup to you, manifolds, up-pipes, downpipe, turbo, etc. My question is regarding the transmission dipstick tube, I ended up accidentally breaking the tack welded bracket and now there's a hole in the tube and it's just floating around back there not attached to anything. I have the 3" PPE downpipe, I can't run the driver side transmission tube because of the glow plug module, so, can I just order a new tube for the driver side even though I'm running that downpipe, will it fit?

If you install a non-EGR downpipe, can you remove the EGR entirely? Or does something else need to change?

Hi Truck Master, I have the 2004.5 LLY duramax. I am in the process of deleting my EGR, installing the pusherintake supermax intake system and diver side charge tube, max flow up pipe without the piping to the EGR and a MBRP down pipe. With the new up pipe and down pipe installed, the transmission dip tube bracket will not reach the 2 mounting bolts. Any suggestions on how to fix this issue? Thanks in advance.

Throwback! I’m gonna throw one on my LML. I assume it’s pretty close to the same install. By the way, deep fried turkey is the only way to go.

Got a 3inch down from MBRP also. I followed you instructions watched video 3 times and I still can’t figure out why I can’t get the factory down to disconnect from the turbo. Lots of lube the first 24 hours. Now I’ve been driving around all week with no v band clamp in hopes that it will pop off. Any suggestions?

When is the best time to tighten the transmission dip stick bracket bolts? What a pain after the bigger downpipe is in….

What do you think of MBRP down pipe vs ProFab down pipe? Rick @ ProFab has stated their stance is that the bottom of their down pipe doesn't need the bolt tab for support down low. Other MFG down pipes have the tab. What are your thoughts?

I'm egr deleted with a beefier uppipe. What downpipe will work with the beefier uppipe cause I'm having problems trying to get it even on the turbo. The uppipe bellow is in the way. What do I do? I already threw out the stock uppipe so there's no going back now.
