Flat earthers only have one argument: "I don't understand, therefore you're wrong"
It's the weakest argument from ignorance. The arrogance is breathtaking.
Nuh uh.
They also have:
"I can't prove it, but I'm right and everyone should accept it because I say so,"
"Even though flat-Earther's can't agree on what the flat Earth looks like or how it works, the globe model should be thrown out for flat Earth,"
"A lot of flat-Earthers agree with me, so I'm right",
and the ever popular "It looks flat to me, so it is."
@@ToEuropa Not worth wasting anymore of my time on these idiots.

Just the fact that there are flat earth believers, it just breaks my brain how really stupid you have to be in order to believe in this stuff.

With an ego so big it has its own gravitational force, pulling people in and making them dumber..
That's how they work. Talking over people and interrupting them. Not letting anyone else speak. Any 'debate' I've ever seen with one of these people, it's ALWAYS the same. They don't want to hear anything contrary to what they are saying. It's like a five year old covering their ears and screaming "na na, I can't hear you!"
Oops! The moon is moving away from us, not towards us, at a rate of 3.78cm a year.🙄
Correct I thought I was the only one who noticed this.
Astrophysicist here. I'm no expert on the orbit of the Moon, but if you want a good example of orbital decay, neutron stars and black holes are where it's at. General Relativity states that objects in orbit do lose energy in the form of gravitational waves, just really, really slowly - much slower than the energy loss due to friction of the marble on the rubber sheet. We've measured this orbital decay hundreds of times now, way back as early as the 1970's and 80's when it was detected in the Hulse Taylor pulsar, and now on an almost daily basis as LIGO/VIRGO/KAGRA measure colliding binary black holes.
@@RayLiehm Earth's artificial satellites (some of them, at least) also tend to undergo orbital decay, as they are close enough to be slowed down by our atmosphere.
Yeah, exactly. She also mentioned the special relativity while talking about gravity. I guess she was nervous
@@RayLiehm Relativistic orbital decay is negligible compared to the energy exchange between Earth and the Moon giving us tides and such.

I can't stand the argument from ignorance, "it doesn't make sense to me as a non-expert therefore it isn't true and the experts are all lying." Then when they talk to an expert they just argue their ignorance ad nauseum.
Its better than appealing to authority. Just because lots of people claim to know something, doesn't mean its true. If you can't demonstrate it, then you don't know it. If you don't know it, then say that. Too many people say something is, just because they were told that by a teacher, parent, preacher, or even friends, but never learn the fundamental concepts behind the ideas. Just because you think its true, doesn't mean it is. Just because its a theory doesn't mean it is not true.
@@criticalthinker420 It's not better, just appealing to authority and an argument from personal incredulity are both just "I don't know but im going to give this answer". At least with an argument from expert consensus you are going with people who are in the field and study the topic, at least in most cases there's peer reviewed data.
@@Aphnesa I get what your saying, but 99% of the "experts" in the field only read books and agree with the premises presented, they don't question or even attempt to perform the test required to actually verify the truth, they just take it as it is said and never question its validness. If it says so in the book, then it must be true. This is what Christians do with the bible, and students do with the text books. There are very few who actually verify for themselves anything at all. Everything that anyone knows should be able to be demonstrated either through experiments or logic reasoning. If you can't demonstrate through logic, then public experiments with documents details should be provided. Those details are not meant to be taken at face value for being true, but instead are so someone else can replicate the exact experiment. Too many "scientist" have faked data just to get ahead in their project, they even had a big investigation a few years back about colleges getting caught faking data in experiments. As a true skeptic, all sides and all things should be taken as true ONLY when the observer has satisfied their doubts AND can demonstrate why their doubts are gone and why others should also agree. If the only answer you have is because someone else smarter than you said so, then you shouldn't even be part of the conversation in the first place. You should just talk about how pretty the celebrities are at the Oscar, or what your favorite thing is. Not everything said in this video was true, on either side, although the skeptic maybe more likely to be correct in the overall viewpoint, the reasons they were right were not accurately presented in this video. It okay if you want to believe what someone said is true, but you shouldn't use that belief as evidence for someone else to believe it also. Either present the evidence and prove your case, or just say "I am not convinced of your position, even though I can't directly demonstrate an alternative view , I can be sure you haven't presented enough evidence for me to accept your viewpoint either", just because no one knows the answer in the conversation, doesn't mean any answer thrown in there is correct. Its all good though, at least the skeptics are looking for truth and not looking for affirmation of their beliefs.
@criticalthinker420 I agree that skepticism should be the default approach to any claim regardless of the source, my only point in what I said was to say that someone saying "I don't know how/understand how/ x 'could be true, so I don't believe it is"' especially when it comes to well established science, is not a remotely better position than "I trust the expert consensus on this subject that's been demonstrated to have at least gone through peer review".
That doesn't mean there aren't people out there with ulterior motives in the studies they're running, or that even a sincere attempt at peer review couldn't be wrong, just simply that a source that's at least attempted critical analysis and peer review is more often a reliable source than just "nuh uh" and personal intuition ("common sense").
Regardless, everyone should still review the reasoning or data behind any argument presented, and anyone who is giving an argument should be prepared to substantiate it or admit they can't.
@@criticalthinker420 EVERYONE is appealing to some sort of authority, and at some time it becomes pointless not to. Did you ever really prove 1+1 is 2? Do you know whats in the all the food you eat, yes its on the label but did you test it? Like do you HAVE to understand ever concept of globe to trust its true?

I blame Victor.
One of his biggest problems is not understanding the scale of the distance between objects in the Solar System and their relative size.
Yeah, I noticed that as well. And it's of course OK not understanding or not being able to imagine something (because granted, those are huge distances in human terms).
What would be nice, though, is if he'd be open to someone trying to explain it to him or at least accept that the things that work (GPS, for instance) are true.
Failure of imagination is the primary problem with flerfers and creationists and so on. Understanding scale is a function of imagination. Or a use of. Or whichever word it is that makes this make sense. Shuddup. I'm tired.
I remember looking up the original upload of this guy when I heard him call in again a few months ago.
Because it made me realize he has been calling into skeptic shows for 6+ years, always repeating the same things, always displaying the same insufferable behavior.
No intention of learning. No intention of actually responding to what the hosts actually say, even when one of the hosts genuinely works in the relevant fields. Just wanting to hear himself talk and throw out the talking points he is obsessed with. To the point where his response to counter arguments is just "No."
He's a hugely dislikable person on his own. But I also was frustrated to realize that a lot of the skeptic broadcasts have helped him feed his delusion for nearly a decade by not acknowledging he was not interested in actually engaging. Just spouting his talking points.
yeah, was gonna say the same. Such a distinctive voice, such a TOTAL lack of humility when speaking with people who've dedicated their lives to the topic. So, so punchable.

To a flerf, "aerospace engineer" translates as "I tell lies for a living by threatening pilots to keep dipping the nose, or else, while maintaining all the far-flung holographic projectors that fabricate the night sky."
It is even more amazing that when pilots of opposing countries at war with each other those pilots who will shot each other out of the sky will still keep it secret that they are creating “ChemTrails” and keep it secret that they continue to dip the nose of the plane from time to time as not to bump into the firm barrier of earth’s atmosphere and where “you” think the stars are painted for us to see them. 😅😂

Flat earthers - “I don’t understand how this works, so it doesn’t work”
Well, Flerf, how does Flat Earth work? You need to have laws that predict the observable facts no worse than normal physics does. And a theory of why this stuff is would also be nice.
And then we will see if you can deliver that and if it is as simple as what normal physics provides. Example:
Geocentrism needs a lot of work to explain why planets go retrograde, the heliocentric model is simple and clear with no trickery. Believe in geocentrism all you want, but do the calculations in the easy and more correct model.

Early on Victor from Brooklyn denied that the Earth rotates at 1000mph and wasn't challenged. In reality the 'speed' depends on latitude which wouldn't exist on a flat Earth. Standing at the North Pole you would slowly rotate a full 360 every 24 hours (facing due South at all times!) whereas at the Equator 1000mph is closer to the mark.

Victor is an example of Dunning Kruger at its best.
Slightly bothered by some host comments. The moon is moving away from the earth slowly. It was made from a collision with the earth and has been moving away ever since. At some point a total solar eclipse won't be a thing anymore.
Also winter isn't caused by the elliptical orbit, it's the angle of the earth. Otherwise the whole earth would experience winter and summer at once.
I appreciate how hard it is to host a call-in show and that mistakes are made easily in a conversation. It makes the other points made by the host harder to accept by people like the caller that are listening in.
No it doesn't. YOu don't need anything beyond having gone to school through junior high school to rebut all of Victor's points. That they threw in some slightly inaccurate things doesn't matter.
The seasons are not a result of Earth's elliptical orbit. They are a result of Earth's tilted axis.
Is it tilted 23.4 degrees? What’s 90-23.4
@@Globeisahoaxx it’s 66.6 degrees. So what? It’s not “666”. It’s 66.6 and it means nothing. The Earth is tilted 23.4 degrees on its rotational axis. It’s not tilted 66.6 degrees.
@@bretttrommler756 666 means nothing? Do a survey and ask 1000 people if 666 means anything. See what they say
"I love being wrong."
Well then, they've got some great news for you!
Flat earthers are just trolls ... not a single flat earther has EVER made a pilgrimage to the edge. They all know it's not flat, they just like arguing (and losing).
Flat earth is giant lake , contained by ice barrier. What edge are you talking about, silly fluoride zombie
What I'm reminded of with this conversation is those coin funnel things they used to have at every mall, where you'd roll a quarter into it and the momentum of the quarter would keep it from rolling straight into the center. Maybe this guy never got to use them, to see how priciples of physics like momentum, velocity, and orbit work in tandum.
Flat earthers make your brain hurt
I've never spoken to a flerfer in real life, pretty sure I'd just point at them and laugh until I pass out.
Flat Earther "having trouble thinking about things in 3D" is a big part of the problem
This sounds like the arguments in the 1700s about how man could never travel at 50 miles per hour.
Never argue with stupid people, they will drag you down to their level and then beat you with experience. :) :)
It's crazy how some people like Victor can predict the motion of planets with pure intuition. It's a wonder he doesn't apply to NASA.
