  • r/AmITheA**hole In today's episode, OP's girlfriend passed out while she was in the shower. Her roommate's boyfriend broke down the door so that the roommate could render aid. When OP finds out about this, he becomes ENRAGED at the idea that another guy might have seen his girlfriend naked. It doesn't matter that he was literally trying to save her life. OP is pissed off that he would dare to look at her naked skin. Is OP the butthole for yelling at the guy who saved his girlfriend?

Like what the hell is wrong with homemade cake? I actually prefer it when my mom makes cake for by birthday, because it's more delicious and she works hard on it. However, if a man came in my rescue in a situation like that where I’d be in a compromising position for anybody but especially for a Muslim woman, I’d be so thankful. Yeah. I mean, I can understand their initial hesitation in regards to OP, because you never know why they're homeless, and there are some cases where the homeless person is an alcoholic/drug addict and just spend any money they get on drugs/booze, and then there are the 'career homeless', who make themselves look homeless and sit on the street begging for change, and then bring that money to their actual nice home, and literally make being homeless their job, raking in a lot of sympathy money. But once things progressed and it became obvious that OP wasn't either of those types of people, they should have become more accepting, but they didn't. And then, years later, when OP's son asks him what happened between them, yeah OP should have told the truth, because their son, who is 16, deserves to know the truth. And he's old enough to make his own decisions about his grandparents, and whether or not he wants to see them.

Jealousy can be understandable but this dude needs to sort out his priorities. I understand getting mad for someone peeping on your gf, but that’s weirdly possessive and shit. It was three layers. The top and bottom layers were white cake while the middle layer was chocolate. The top and bottom layers were covered in butterscotch icing, while the middle layer was covered in chocolate icing. Then in between the top and middle layers there was also red icing (for ketchup), yellow icing (for mustard), and diced green jujubes (for relish), and then the top of the cake was sprinkled with sesame seeds. The thing looked amazing. Unfortunately, the cake itself was bone dry. I don’t know if she forgot a step while making it, if she left it out too long and it went stale, or what but I needed to drink multiple glasses of milk just to wash down a single slice.

Our man wasn't homeless when they met due to some stupid early life decision making, where you could kinda understand the at the time future in laws being wary at first, much as they'd still be terrible for ignoring the part where he'd clearly turned his life around. Dude was homeless due to escaping an abusive home as a teen, when the friend's couch he'd been crashing on became unavailable due to the friend's family circumstances, IIRC. Man got him self an SSS tier wife and it sounds like they've raised a fine child in the end though, so I really hope seeing how much he /wasn't/ the asshole from the outside beat back the attempted grandparental guilt enough he's back at enjoying life once more.

Wow. Just wow. I'm also a nanny. I'm not making as much as OP there, but it's a real job and very high in demand during this pandemic. I spent a year with kids doing remote learning, and am now watching toddlers for two separate families because though some daycares are open, the littlest ones are at high risk since they're not vaccinated and of course can't social distance. One of the babies contracted COVID last year (despite the parents and I all testing negative) and he was lucky to pull through. And even outside of the pandemic, childcare is a respectable job, because you're responsible for the lives of someone else's kids. When the parents are at work, you're the person to make sure the kids are cared for and safe. If the kids get sick, or get into an accident, then you're the one to provide first-aid.

To them, every second wasted trying to protect a person's modesty is a second that could be used to save their life. Ask any medical professional, they'll tell you it doesn't matter if the person has poop smeared on their butt. Because if that person isn't breathing or doesn't have a heartbeat, every second counts. There are certain priorities, and generally, saving the person's life is considered more important than their dignity. You can disagree, and i totally understand! But sometimes that's just how it is.

Not really hesitating if the roommate was going in. Maybe the roommate knew first aid, or more advanced medical techniques, that Jeff didn't. Like, obviously, if it's more than a one person job, the roommate would have called Jeff in. It wasn't, so, hey, by not going in, everyone was spared entirely unnecessary embarrassment. Plus, most places don't have laws necessitating bystanders render aid in emergencies, because while seconds count in many situations, doing the wrong thing in the wrong way at the wrong time just as often makes things worse.

Even as a teenager I passed out a few times in the shower and would call my mom who would cover me with a towel and my brother would come in to carry me out.

7:00 Controversial thing to say here, I have empathy for OP in this first story, because I used to be just like him, something similar to this even happened once and it led to a lot of tension between me and the partner I had at the time. The fact is this reaction is based out of 1: Not knowing yourself very well which is something to delve deeply into all on its own and 2: In not knowing yourself, not realizing just WHY you're having this reaction. Deep, deep insecurities that go unrecognized can tear you apart, and the natural reaction to those insecurities manifesting themselves in a situation like this one is to go into a blind rage or to "See Red." Anger is a reactionary emotion, it is a response to something, and insecurities can run deep and be very painful to confront and arguably even more painful to deal with. Listening to this story caused me to relieve some moments from my younger life, including the ignorance as to what the problem really is.
I really hope OP sees this, because unlike what rSlash said about you with the whole Facetime till bed thing, I think that is the sweetest thing, you taking time out of every night to be there for your girlfriend. You are not worthless OP, you are not stupid, or any of these other names, you just don't know yourself yet. Please don't let this turn you to hating yourself and please learn to explore yourself. Every part of your psyche needs attention, your fears and concerns need to be addressed before they get worse. You are a human being, and if I can go from someone who had reactions very, VERY similar to yours, to someone who can look at your situation with pained empathy because I see myself in you, though I am not there now, please believe you can grow from where you are now too.
I will add that when OP had his reaction and started yelling and the other couple came in, including Jeff, everything they said would have only heightened my reaction, increased my insecurities and thus, increased my rage. In his shoes, in a younger version of me, I would have acted very, VERY similarly, and getting away honestly seems like the only option sometimes, because it feels like everyone has betrayed you, including your partner, when they haven't.
OP, if given the chance, apologize vehemently to your girlfriend. I'm tempted to be vindictive towards Jeff and his partner for their role in this because I all to readily see things from your perspective due to my past self, but the fact is they did nothing wrong. I would apologize to them as well, but I would also softly, but firmly tell them it is absofraginglutely none of their business if I see my girlfriend or not, it is solely hers and politely tell them to stay the frag out of my way, while still apologizing to them for my earlier treatment, but not my current.
If you get a chance to speak to your girlfriend again, explain to her you blame her for nothing of what happened FIRST! Then explain that you believe your reaction was based out of you not knowing yourself as well as you might have thought, and explain you have some soul searching to do, as you figure out why you had the reaction you had, and how to combat it, and that, if she's interested (and if you think you can do this last part with her,) ask her to share in that experience with you, so you can learn and grow as a couple. It may go well, it may not. Best of luck OP, and remember, you're a person, regardless of how people treat you while you're at your lowest point.
