A Tranquil Early Morning Walk in a Serene Cotswold Village.

  • So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village and civil parish of Chastleton. The village is located in Oxfordshire, England and about 4 miles (6.4 km) northeast of Stow-on-the-Wold. The village is in the far northwest of Oxfordshire and very close to the boundaries of Warwickshire and Gloucestershire. At the time of the 2011 census the Parish's population was 153. The post town for Chastleton is Moreton-in-Marsh.
The parish church Saint Mary the Virgin was built in the latter part of the 12th century. Some renovation work was carried out in the 14th century and then the south bell tower was added in 1689. The church is a Grade II listed building.
Most of our walks feature local churches and churchyards but for some viewers they might not be so keen on seeing these sections of the walks and the churchyards especially, which may be for many reasons including and not limited to personal. To alleviate this, I will be placing a time stamp in videos from now on, which will correlate to exiting from a church / churchyard. Today the local church is entered at around the 4 min mark and exiting takes place at 10:51 .
The fine looking house next to the church is Chastleton House, it is noted to be one of England's most finest & complete Jacobean houses. It is Grade I listed and was built / completed in 1612. For many generations it was occupied by the Jones family but is now under the ownership & care of the National Trust. The house was opened to the public in 1997.
Sadly, we don't have the usual high quality binaural audio for this walk as the recording did not come out, all I got was just one second of audio from the binaural mics, I think what probably happened was I pressed record on the separate audio recorder but then accidentally pressed stop shortly after - most likely due to having gloves on I suspect! So the audio you are hearing is from in-camera - Sorry!
There are no hidden OAAW logos to find in this video :(
Thanks for your time & walking with me.

Your walks are fascinating precisely because they are slow and give you the opportunity to feel the peace and unhurried life of Old England, as it was long ago. A slow walk and close-ups of an old rusty gate and faded wood give a feeling of complete presence. Magic videos.

Hi, Michael. It is really good to hear from you. I was only thinking about you yesterday morning! I believe that a large percentage of viewers watch the walks on TV nowadays. I have been fairly busy this end…I’m in the midst of a PC upgrade as I can no longer update the video software due the CPU being two generations too old, apparently the new updates are 5 times faster! But transferring all the software and plugins across is very time consuming. Quick update regarding the driving channel…In due course I will be rebranding it and restarting over from fresh. I kind of feel like the current branding does not reflect that fact that the channel is also a music channel, which leads me onto I will be also changing direction slightly in terms of the music style, it will still be along the ambient lines but will be a bit more musical by incorporating some nice chord progressions. You can view the new name for the channel by checking out the handle for the channel ;.
Thanks ever so much for your kind donation and continued support. It really helps and means a lot!
Hope you are all well, Michael. Take care and all the best. OAAW

Another beautiful memorial amid a pasture, such a historical filled region this Cotswold. Fascinating to study the folks who roamed before we came along, especially their construction techniques. My father's family home is hundreds of years old, still intact, the roof hasn't one joist holding it up. The house outer walls carry the weight but the four roof sides hold each other up, the entire tension is in the peak which is 80ft above the attic floor. The house interior is so synched that any interior door swung by a fella will cause every single unlatched door to also swing but by itself. Course the family are used to it, but every guest stranger gets the "business", they're told casually it's just our ancestors milling about😱. I'm so endeared and intrigued by your many close-ups on this walk, especially the trees....you should see the giants all over my greatgrands farm! I'm confused and feel it's not right for you to be judged concerning where we walk. You are incredibly respectful of churches, rather like a history professor, showing the construction types and dignity care of ancestors. You do not flaunt religion as you know the whole world can be viewing. The churches are just part of the nature of your country. And say, the ambience was spot on however it was recorded. Had you not fussed at yourself, I for one wouldn't have noticed nor actually did I even hear much difference. This is, yikes, the 147th time I've repeated those words, and I mean them. You've nothing to fuss about, Sir🕶️, really! 🤗

Good day, L.J. Great to hear from you. Hope all is well. That does sound an incredible & intriguing property! Definitely built to last. I wonder if the guests sleep with one eye open if staying overnight. I always enjoy trying to spot close-ups. I don't know why but I have always had a bit of a thing for trees...would love to see those magnificent trees on the farm! Always like hearing of the places you know so well and mean so much to you. Regarding the churchyard...I probably didn't explain it properly in the description, I wasn't being judged at all for walking in churchyards, it was that something important came to light which is very personal to a long time viewer of the channel who suffered the loss of a close family member. So, to avoid any distress or anxiety to the person concerned, I added a timestamp so that the viewer does not have to try and skip through the video to miss out the cemetery sections. I hope this makes sense as I again have probably not explained it well (I'm rubbish at explaining things!). I find that if listening to the audio through just the speaker of a cell phone there is not much difference between in camera audio and binaural audio but when listening through headphones that is when the difference is pretty big. You know me too well but I'm sure it is 148 times 😁. Thanks for your time & support. ~ OAAW. Ps, where did that week go!

Thanks & blessings for the church explanation, I sometimes get the wrong conclusion, I do so apologize ifn I trode where I shouldn't have, I share your friend's sorrow at the incurable emptiness, I have a large cavern myself that echoes once in awhile and makes me eyes water. 😢 But then doggone ifn a smile doesn't sneak in, and the happy times with those folks crashes me boohoo party and I hear their voices saying "come on now! Replay some of the old home movies and laugh with us again. We're still here!"
And where's the week? Well, I saw it but only fleetingly too, but as me legs are concrete stiff I must've chased hard after it for acouple-three days. Whoa horsey I exclaimed.

A new walking video is welcome at any time, of course- but the ones like this that appear first thing on a Sunday morning are a truly lovely way to start off the week! I try to watch the walk in its entirety upon arising (unless my dog’s need to be let out for important jobs necessitates the walk being delayed), and I often watch it again later in the day while doing household tasks. The early morning walks are always my absolute favorites! What was that structure that we saw first thing in the video? It had an interesting appearance. I appreciate the background information you give about the places you go and the buildings you pass, and I am always amazed by the sheer age of these places (coming from a younger country). Your close-ups are also always enjoyed, of moss, ivy leaves, stone patterns in walls, etc., as these are the types of things that we would probably pause to observe if we were to be on the walk ourselves. It was good to hear the bird songs- though I must say that I am hearing a bit more chirping around our area in recent days. Spring is coming. : )
(It was thoughtful of you to put the time stamp in consideration of the viewer who had recently lost a loved one, and was made sad by seeing churchyard cemeteries. I am sure that your kind gesture was appreciated by that individual).
Thank you for another nice walk!

Hi, Janet. Thanks very much for your lovely comment. It is always good to get feedback on the filming aspects as it helps to shape future walks. The building at the beginning is a dovecote house, they were used to house doves & pigeons. The building is a well known historical landmark in the area.
It is important to me to take everyones feelings into account, especially where extra sensitivity is required.
Hope all is well and you are having a nice Sunday. All the best to you both. ~ OAAW

Interesting about what that little house is! I had heard the term “dovecote” before in an old book from the 1800s, but did not know what it referred to. It’s good to learn new words. : )
I agree with you about considering the feelings of others, and showing sensitivity; it definitely makes the world a better place when we do this. BTW, I was sorry to read this past week that King Charles was diagnosed with cancer. My thoughts and prayers are with him and his family, and with all the folks who are dealing with this distressing disease. Thankfully, there are many excellent treatments available, and many success stories.
      I hope you have a pleasant week. : )

While I see churches and related as more historical - and cultural and societal history, I appreciate that you are helping people who might not want to partake of such things by identifying where they are in the video. Just a thought: maybe put the timestamp in the video itself (i.e., Churchyard from 4:00 to 10:51) in case they don't check out your description?

Doing well here in the US Northeast. Though we are getting ready for the biggest snowstorm we've had in two years. That should be interesting. I find it curious that England is north of the US Northeast (we are more parallel with the south of France / north of Spain) but you still have some green trees and bushes and we do not - our trees and bushes are bare, our grass is yellow-brown, etc. I realize the jet stream, etc., play a part, but it still is odd to see in "real time."

I see what you mean about being parallel with the south of France (had to look on a map). I’m guessing that most of the greens you are seeing in recent videos are evergreens but I’m no expert :) and like you say, Jet streams probably have a lot to do with it.
