A Relaxing Morning Walk in the Cotswold Village of Withington

- So, today we are out and about walking in the Cotswold village and parish of Withington which is located in the county of Gloucestershire, England. Withington is about 7 miles (11 km) southeast of Cheltenham and approximately 8 miles (13 km) of the Cotswold town of Cirencester. The parish also includes the hamlets of Cassey Compton, Foxcote and Hilcot. At the time of the 2011 census the total parish population was 532.
The parish church is St Michael and All Angels. It is a Grade I listed building dating back to the 12th century.
The village pub is The Mill Inn, which does very nice food and drink....well worth a visit if you are in the area. It has ample parking which is a nice bonus.

We used to frequent the Old pub…called “ THE FROG MILL INN “…in 1960 ‘s…Sunday treat was “ chicken in a basket” long before MacDonalds

Then, through the tree sheltered tunnel leading to the gate with ANOTHER amazing tree trunk. Pure artistry by nature! And our walker leads us again through another piece of the world I’ll never see.

Your nature walk was even more welcome than usual today, as Western NY state is presently in the throes of blizzard conditions! As I was outside at 6:30 AM shoveling a foot of snow off of our driveway (and more than a foot where high winds had caused drifting; our cars looked like marshmallows!), I was anticipating the pleasure of watching a walk later, in a warm house and with a hot beverage (which I did). Just to hear the bird sounds alone was so nice, and even the crows- who are not the most melodic sounding birds around. (They were in full voice that day). Seeing the old church was lovely, and also the many tree-lined paths/roads. Though it was obviously winter when you recorded this, I must say that I like your kind of winter better than what we are presently experiencing; it’s still so green! Do you ever get snow in the Cotswolds, or is this the norm?At any rate, your walk was enjoyed by your snowed-in walking-friends in many parts of the US today. Thanks!
Good evening from here in England to you Janet. I must say I am very envious of the fact that you have snow. We used to get decent snowfall back in the 80’s but not so much nowadays sadly. Some snow is expected later on this evening but probably further up north and on higher ground. The birds singing during the walk was very nice to hear, especially in the first few minutes. It made a change to actually be able to see the crows, and there sure was a lot of them! This walk is only a week old which is relatively new as usually walks can be filmed 2-4 weeks old prior before airing and sometimes even much longer. Even in the midst of winter the sporadic patches of greenery is nice to see. Enjoy the rest of your day and keep safe and warm. All the best. OAAW

I actually don’t mind snow, and enjoy using my snowshoes on woodsy nature trails, or at parks. (Can’t get to parks today, though, as there is a driving ban). Winter does have a unique kind of fresh, clean beauty. I just don’t love shoveling the white stuff- though two wonderfully kind neighbors came by with snow blowers this morning and shortened the time and labor that was needed to clear out. : )

I was thinking, 'ooh, there is a pub with lots of tables by a stream' as it is always nice to have a good long walk and then refreshment ... and you put back on all the calories you just lost. Withington, Whittington can be confusing no? Appealing bird songs: one was saying "hey you" thence a cat call men whistle at ladies. Geesh, how you fit through all those horse gates, over here they bend the fence opening into a "V" because what large animal encased can bend itself in half. Say, we have one of those water tanks (at 3:20) in the far back connected to a shed gutter, no water line yet way yonder. I sure delight at Cotswold's outdoor carriage lights, peeyuu this dreaded spaceage stuff. Well timed! The crows, resplendent indeed! 😂 There's a bird amid village that sounds exactly like the shopping cart l always manage to get at the grocers, you know, the one with the wobbly sticky squeaky wheel who's screech radiates through the whole store. Rare church what with a row of upper wall windows. My heavens, are those prolific ant hills? Ah, you noticed them... the 2 Ents guarding the holy gate. You really relaxed and savored this walk, l could tell... me too. 🤍s = 0:47 "the light at the end of the tunnel", 8:05 that's where I'd sit EVERY time .. thanks Sir🕶️, you're so peachy picking pleasant spots. (tongue twister, dare ya try it)
Good day, L J :). You're not wrong there I once got them mixed up many years ago! Oh, the old "Cat call", can't but help wonder...who first came up with that and did they realise just how far round the world it go and for how long! The crows were on one during this walk, the birdsong at the beginning was the best bit for me, oh and I feel your pain because I usually get that squeaky & wobbly shopping cart (on the very rare occasion that I actually step foot in a grocery store). Never noticed any anthills, were they in the churchyard. Did you notice something coincidental about this walk? It started with two trees and finished with two trees, of course that was entirely planned, not in the slightest purely by chance...honest! 😀. Good to hear you were also relaxed and savoured each and every fleeting moment. You got me! I tried saying that really fast over & over, I got to 5 times then the wheels fell off!!!!
