Well from a 41 yr old woman, tjis video made it so easy, pollen filter changed while my children played football with their father
This is great to hear Eustacia, thanks for taking the time to comment and enjoy your Golf.
Offered to do this exact service on a friends golf, and while I'm a pretty experienced DIY mechanic, I always like to research for any potential difficulties. Nice, clear video, and I really like the fact it has been separated into sections, for quick reference. Nice one, thank you!!
Hi, that's really great to hear, thanks for taking the time to comment. Glad you found the sections useful too, I'll definitely continue to do that for these types of video in the future.
GREETINGS FROM TANZANIA .
I was stressing, because the epc light came on 😫
Oil filter, air filter and spark plugs fixed it.
Thank you, Sir.
That's great to hear and thanks for taking the time to comment!
Really good video. Nice close up shots. A man in the UK servicing a German car. Fair play. And safe driving to everybody, And Happy Holidays. God bless.
Thanks Cathal for taking the time to comment and for watching my video. Happy Holidays to you too!
I’ve just purchased the same car but an 08 plate metallic grey, and this is mega helpful I’m going to do this exact service myself! Thanks so much for your video!
Hi Rebecca, that's great to hear and thanks for taking the time to comment. Good luck with the service.
Nice and simple video. Getting one to my garage soon.
Hi, thanks for watching my video, I'm glad you like it. It was nice and easy to work on which is always good.
Thank you for being so detailed! Your videos are really helpful and informative, I learnt a lot :)
Thanks Rachel, I'm really glad you found it useful!
great video, loved how it gave massive summer vibes in the evening while the suns still up lol
Thanks Harry, I appreciate you taking the time to comment. Roll on summer again!
I have this engine in my 2007 facelift Polo 1.6 FSI Sport - I bought a Haynes manual, and it didn't cover my car! I emailed Haynes asking for advice, and they apologised that they didn't have any alternative manuals, but, (aside the plastic cover, and the battery placement etc.) this is the same 1.6 fsi engine that I actually have, and so, all thanks to you, I was able to confidentiality change my spark plugs and coils, from actually looking at an engine that looks like mine! Cheers!
That's great to hear Nick and thanks for taking time to comment and let me know. Happy motoring!
Mine just had major service but wish did it myself then I know for certain it's been all done!!!
Yes, like you I'd much rather service a car myself than have a supplying dealer do it, but sometimes it's already been done. My Audi A4 elsewhere on the channel came to me having just been serviced but the airfilter was over 10 years old!!
Your Great in showing how to do. I was buying mercedes c class 2008. Now i change my mind i will go for golf 2006. I will buy this monday. . Thanks
Hi, thanks for watching my video. The C-Class is a nice car, but you can never go wrong with a Golf. Good luck with your purchase.
Nice video, very helpful!
Thanks, glad you think so. Please do take a look at my other videos when you have the chance.
@@MostlyHelpful will do!
Good job

@@MostlyHelpful Да скоко видео пересмотрел про двигатель 1.6 фсі токо вы подробро обьясняете, как заменить масло фильтра,свечи,
Excellent
Thank you! Cheers!
thank you!!!
Glad I could help. 😀
Be screen wash brave man 💪🏼
I've cleaned a few filters in BMW screenwash pumps in my time, so I tend not to be brave for that reason. Unless I'm selling the car the next day that is....
step by step cool
Glad you liked it.
Amazing
Thank you for saying, I appreciate it.
Thank you!!
You're welcome!
Thanks a lot
No problem my friend and thanks for taking the time to comment. 👍
Thanks soo very much. Am gonna do mine soon then. NB: Am gonna use Iridium spark plugs. After how many Kilos should I change them these ones?
Hi, thanks for watching my video and good luck with the service. I've not used Iridium plugs before so I don't know how long they last, but I would always try to follow the manufacturers scheduled replacement time.
Hi thanks for great video tutorial. Did you ever change timing chain? If you servicing your Golf all the time like on video did you have ever seriously problem with engine? I'm looking to buy same model with same engine and I need any advice.
Hi Messiah, thanks for taking the time to comment. I only owned this car for 3 months, so this was all the work I did to it. I've never changed a timing chain on any engine though but I would certainly give it a try if I needed to. Good luck with your purchase.
Thanks for the video! Ηow much torque did you apply with the torque wrench when installing the spark plugs?
I can't remember what I used, but I just looked it up and it's 25NM. Good luck with the job. 👍
Hi, great video, thanks. I have a mk5 golf and would like to check please, were you able to do the oil change without jacking the car up (noticed nearside tyre was on garage floor)?
Watching the video back again (it was a while ago) it looks like I did it without jacking the car up. It's a bit of a squeeze but as long as you can get under there then yes, it should be fine. Good luck with it.
Thanks!@@MostlyHelpful
Nice video🫡..also I want to ask when is best to drain the engine oil ..is it when the engine is hot or cold❓your swift reply will really help thanks.
The best time to drain the oil is when it is hot, but not so hot that it burns you. So I usually go for a short drive (10 minutes) come home, wait 30 minutes then drain the oil. Good luck with it!
Hi, did you use a 3/8” or 1/2” drive for the spark plugs and oil filter?
I can't remember but looking at the video the spark plug socket seems to be 3/8" drive and the oil filter socket is 1/2" drive.
I have the same car, dealers recommend 5w30. Why did you use 5w40 and what would be best for the car? Any information appreciated
Hi and Thanks for watching my video. I chose 5w40 mainly because I had a brand new 5 litre container of it, not because I think it's better than 5w30. That said, the car had 90k miles so I tend to avoid the modern really thin oils when the mileage is high, as I find they tend to make things feel less smooth.
You didn't published the break fluid video?
Hi and thanks for watching my video. You are right, I sold the car before I did the brake fluid change. I kept the brake fluid back so I could use it on my Audi A4 which hasn't had a change in 10 years!
Can you give the code number for the Air Duct Pipe at 5:52 along with the housing ? Thanks!
Hi Adrian, I'd love to help but I sold the Golf shortly after recording that video so I don't have access to it anymore. Good luck with the search!
What’s the black casing next to the oil filter on the left of it?
I've had a watch back of the video and I think the black casing you are referring to is the "activated charcoal filter".
Did you need to jack the car to access the sump plug?
I don't think it's necessary but it does make it a lot easier. In my case, my oil catch pan won't fit under most cars without lifting them however.
Plsss can u telling me how much of oil i need to put in ?
Sure, from memory it's something like 3.6l but you will likely only drain out about 3l so pour slowly toward the end so you don't overfill it.
what is the sump plug washer internal diameter size in milimeters please?
Hi Simon, thanks for watching my video. I don't know that information but there was a new washer included with the new sump plug that I fitted. The cost of that in the UK was only £2. Here's a link showing how it is supplied.

Hello. Wich reference spark plugs you have used?
Hi Emanuel, I bought these spark plugs at my local VW dealer. I just asked for the right ones for this car, so I don't know their reference, sorry.
How to check if your washer liquid on top level?
Hi, thanks for watching my video. Normally I just do a visual check to see how much washer fluid is left.
@@MostlyHelpful ok , thanks mate
Is it a reliabele engine ?
Yes, I would say so. It's fairly basic so that helps.
Shouldn't the oil be VW spec 504 00/507 00?
I would always encourage people to do their own research and check their owner's manual for the correct specification of oil. I sold the car shortly after this video so I can't now check myself but doing some research you are right that I should have used 504 and not 505.
@@MostlyHelpful Thank you for confirming, about to service mine hence... Great video, straight to the point 👍🏻
How can I install pistons Of this car golf 5 1.6 fsi
I don't know.
No fuel filter?
There was a reason why I didn't do it, but I can't now remember. Not required until 150k miles maybe?
@@MostlyHelpful
I had mine replaced recently on a major service. My milage is only 98k !!! Same car.
Fuel filter !?
From what I remember, I think it's not due until 120k miles so I didn't do it. In fact I've never replaced a fuel filter so I'll definitely do that on the next 2nd hand car that I buy.
👍👍👍😁😁😁
Glad you liked it - thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Trany oil !!!
Didn't do it this time Dave, but yes, definitely something for the next owner to attend to.
Good job
Thanks, I hope you found it useful.
