Hey Brandon I have been watching your videos for a while now, and I had purchased a Sony handycam CCD TRV615 about two summers ago, as I wanted to start recording/vlogging using an old school camcorder to capture that retro look and overall nostalgic feel. However, I ended up leaving it on a subway in Chicago on my way back to college and was absolutely heartbroken. I have been wanting to replace it since but haven't yet. That being said I just wanted your expertise and advice, on what camcorder I should purchase next. I am going to use it to film my last year of college and really get creative with it. I still want that retro look, but felt that the handycam I had was bulkier than I had anticipated, which made it difficult to travel with at times and made recording a bit uncomfortable as I was just starting out. I would appreciate any recommendations or suggestions.

Well it depends on how much you want to spend and what kind of look you want. Since you had a hi8 camera you could try another one of those. Or you can check out a mini dv camcorder. I would check out a Sony ccd-trv138 or a canon ZR model like the zr45 or zr60. They are pretty small but have a good retro look to them

I don't mind spending a generous amount, and as long as the look is somewhat grainy and retro it'll work. Thank you so much for the advice I will go ahead and check those out.

I wonder if this cam can record video to media card? Great review btw!

Do you have any tips for betting out of safeguard mode? I can't get it off E04.

Not gonna lie this is the only jvc mini dv camera that I’ve used that didn’t have a safeguard mode. And it even had a really clanky sounding tape deck. So I’m not sure how to help you haha. Hopefully someday I will

Multi media cards I believe but trust me when I say the video footage will look awful

Can I use the SD card to record instead of tapes?

    • @brandoncameracollection

I do believe so although the card capacity is very small. I think thigh highest it goes is a 2GB multi media card. I don’t think the video will be very good compared to a tape.
