seems like a good time to do a shifter and driveshaft since it all comes out anyway!
Thank you so much for doing this video! I just finished doing a complete clutch job on my nieces 2008 Mustang Bullitt. The hardest part was the pilot bearing like you ran in to. It was a brutal fight even with a bearing puller! My niece saved it as a badge of honor!
Good info, Thanks for the help. I had to drop my K-member to get the motor low enough for the trans to slid back in the tunnel so the pilot shaft could clear the clutch, he also said in the beginning of the video that you don’t have to drop the exhaust, I did not drop the H-pipe but wish I had of. The H- pipe will be removed before I go back with it!
Excellent video. Getting ready to do major work on my Mustang (0first time ever on this car) and this was very helpful showing things to look for (removal/install) as far as the manual trans is involved. Earned a sub. Thank you!
what an excellent video!!! thank you and congratulations, i wish i could find videos like this for everything i ever needed lol. i bought a 2011 GT with bad crankshaft bearings and i just finished swapping the motor at home just to find out my transmission wont shift into any gears when the cars turned on ...so disappointing!!! im pretty sure the slave cylinder took a dump and i need to get my transmission out but i need to do this in my garage with no lift... this video will help me do it step by step without guessing whats next. ill be replacing the clutch that came with the used motor i bought for the old one that came out of the old engine... anyway congrats again great video!
2ndA awesome, thanks for watching and especially thanks for commenting, helping people and then getting comments like this really make it worth doing these videos!!
Thanks so much for the watching and commenting, we are so happy when one of our videos helps someone, it really makes it fun to do these when we get to help people out!
I could watch these kinda videos all day 😂
I love your video on how to replace the clutch on the mustang , I also have a 2013 mustang gt, but I had to give you a thumbs down because of one rule that every great mechanic knows and even my father taught me , if you're going to do the job, do it right the first time so you don't have to go back in, you change the flywheel but you did not change the rear engine seal which is a no no, every good mechanic knows if you went that far to take the flywheel off what's a few more minutes to change the rear engine seal, Even though it was not leaking rule of thumb you're there so change it, That's like doing a timing belt and not changing the front engine seal or the cam seals, because after you put everything back who's to say a few months later the rear seal starts leaking because it was not changed. Now the whole job has to be done over again.
why was the bottom splash guard removed?
Was this an exedy Mach 500 clutch ?
How did u get the top bolt out
So changing the clutch with fix the lock out issue?
Is that a factory replacement flywheel?
Top 2 trans bolts get removed from under the hood with a ratchet wrench. Super easy to do and a LOT of room to do it. Just an FYI.
How about getting them back in though? Bet it's a pain in the ass
Easy my ass. Lol
Did the clutch hold up? Or did you end up having issues with the clutch after 2k miles?
If i have longtubes , will it be easier? Or i need to take them off?
I took on this challenge on my car. Bolts for cats were seized so I couldn’t take the h pipe off. So imagine the time I had pulling the trans and putting it back on
Can be done without remove the shifter?it's seem to crazy to me to replace clutch remove entirely shifter!!!!!
I am going to be using this video as my guide to do it myself... with jackstands/ramps.. Ordered clutch /flywheel wish me luck
John Z having same thought. Did you do it?
i need to swap the slave cylinder on mine, no lift either, just got done swapping a seized engine for a running one just to find out gears wont go in when engines running , only when the car is off that i can actually shift them on and out... thoughts??
Jason Tabares this weekend I will.. I just got a stage 1 clutch and flywheel delivered but I won't be home to get it till Saturday.. also got a shifter bracket. I'll let you know how it goes...
2ndA sounds like that.. is it connected properly? Did splines match up with clutch ?
heres the story. i bought the car with a seized engine , replaced the engine with a running one, that engine came with the clutch installed and i didnt touch it. now the car starts up but gears wont go in. i never drove the car lol dying to
I’ve replaced my trans with a Ben calimer stage 2 MT-82. Alone. I’ve had the trans out 3 times. First one I blew up second gear. Second one I blew up 4th gear. Third one I decided to just get a race trans lol.
Ben Calimer sucks! Lots of people with same experience
How did you guys get the top 2 bolts out of the transmission?
Looks like they lowered the trans some more and used some flexi extension setup to get to them.
Hello. Awesome video. I have this issue. Could this be considered a warranty issue since it requires a redesign to fix a functional clutch?
nope- its not warrantied. Im going through it right now on my '14. They will cover the master cylinder but not the clutch or the slave cylider. Its causal...im out $1700 for a new clutch and a slave cylinder. but the master cylinder is warrantied. Nice huh
@Blue_xoxo please tell me the 1700 included labor.
Note to self: If I ever own a Mustang GT and it needs a new clutch, pay a pro to do it. Tough job!
Yessir
Its not tough its just a long job, but extra hands helping out makes it a good experience.
Easy job
Anyone know if the flywheel bolts are the same on a 96-04 for manual and auto
BRENDAJASON1 no they are different, also different motors may have different flywheels,
APDTY ok thanks yea was talking about the 4.6 motor with manual
Did you break it in like the instructions say? I mean it's an organic clutch after all. I bought the Exedy Mach 500 Stage 1
Balleknack yes it’s always good to burn it in properly so you get less chance of chatter
throw out bearing ?
This the 1st clutch replacement video I've seen where you put a mark on the drive shaft fastening points. Is it really necessary?
Not , its not nesesary
Thanks!!
Couldn’t the shifter be disconnected from the shift rod on the transmission without removing the shifter inside the car?
Mustang Guru it can. But it’s a complete pain in the ass. Not worth it.
Definitely not looking forward to ever replacing my clutch, I don't have access to a lift so this looks like it would be a pain to do with Jack stands
did you end up doing that? i need to drop my tranny as well and i dont have a lift either.
2ndA it's not that bad I had to drop the trans on a lowered vw jetta on Jack's
Make sure you get some tall jack stands or else you'll have the transmission in the way the whole time like I did
Had a shop just complete the clutch and light flywheel install. But an engine light came on showing cylinder 3 misfire.. any reason for that?
I have seen this happen 2 times...when the installer put Trans bolted to motor wire harness gets pinched with out any knowledge
@@bobbyhill305wtf!! Does a crank sensor have to do with a clutch??
@user-hf5cf9ie1u
On Coyote Mustangs, when you do a clutch or flywheel, you sometimes have to do a crank relearn if you get a misfire codes. Especially when you change to a lightweight flywheel and have to change the pilot bearing.
Did the clutch self bleed it’s self at the end ?
You just pump the clutch pedal a few 100 times and that bleeds it. Easy peasy.
Is that just tape for the aftermarket stereo connection? LOL
You didn't specify torque ft lbs on the flywheel
Great Video.... What happened to the clutch that caused a replacement? Also, these Stangs have had reports of a transmission whine that occur in 1st - 4th gear, could this be a clutch issue, or transmission gear issue I wonder? Also, what was the cost of the clutch replacement? This is definitely not a DIY job, without a lift. Hire a pro!
James Perconte yes mine wines but it a 2011, i heard the 13 didnt have that problem
What was the cause of the wine
Was that a new OEM flywheel with a factory replacement exedy clutch?
Is that trans the same one in the 2015+
Yes and no. It is a MT-82, but the internals (while sharing the same design) have slightly different types of parts (metal vs plastic here and there, some other minor improvements). The tail housing assembly is also different than on the S550s. The shifter is also slightly different... Now with that said the MT-82s are interchangeable between the S197 and the S550s... All one has to do is switch over the tail housing to get it to work.
@@ParhelionGame ohh ok thank you for this information.
What size are those starter bolts ?
What size wrenchh Do I need to remove the starter?
Should be 10 mm
A ratchet wrench bro, that shit is a life saver
I don't understand why a mechanic I talked to said part of the exhaust need's to be cut off in order to do this job..😑
8 fly bolts
15:29 damn for a second I thought you guys dropped the transmission 😳😅
did not remove sound insulation correctly …..2 never use impact to tighten clutch …..over all good job....
Pretty sure he said he was NOT tightening the clutch all the way down using an impact. He was getting them snug and applying final torque with a torque wrench.
