This film was definitely one of the best of all the Kong movies. It really felt like a 70's movie
Well, it did take place in the 70s, hence the Vietnam War vibes.

That CGI in this scene is almost perfect. The photorealism is actually scary. How this simple, cheesy, monster movie prequel ends up looking better than 99% of movies is astounding.
I SOOOOO regret NOT seeing this movie at the theater! The Skullcrawler looks like something you might see in Poltergeist.

Looking back at the visual effects for Kong: Skull Island, it's interesting to see how well they old up till to this day, and how much the Wingard directed movies feel a lot less refined than this one. A key aspect is surely the details and photography, how every detail of Kong's skin, fur and texture makes him look incredibly big and imposing, even if in the movie is "just" 30 meters tall.

Aaannnddd......... IT'S ALL DOWNHILL FROM HERE. seriously, the CGI of 2019's "GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS" was worse than this CGI and the CGI of 2021's "GODZILLA vs KONG" ended up being even WORSE than the CGI of 2019's "GODZILLA: KING OF THE MONSTERS".
