when you go to your other home & start housekeeping put things away right away instead of throwing it on top of counters, when you are finished eating do the dishes . Do things as you go along then you will not have the mess you have & get so depressed. Mom had 6 of us kids, she did her housework as it came along, certain days were was days, cleaning each room on given days, but she never had a mess she taught me you put things away ,wipe up messes do your dishes etc etc . We had a small farm she was forever canning & freezing foods. Doing all she did amid abuse but still maintained her home ,Mom is 94 & still follows the same housekeeping. You kept at it & did a fabulous job with your kitchen !

AMEN, my mom is the OLDEST of 13 kids and my grandma didn't have a choice but to clean up after each meal. My mom was taught this all her life and she instilled that in us. At 94, my mom kept a spotless house and you could almost eat off her floors.

I paid a professional to clean our ovens last week (they get used hot and hard in our house) and he used The Pink Stuff. Did a great job on the oven. My newly discovered best cleaning friend for the sink is Bar Keeper's Friend. I discovered that from a US cleaner and I now love it. Does the same thing to sinks that your Pink Stuff did.
Kitchens are hard to keep tidy. Everyone dumps everything in them. My husband is messy and also the main cook so our kitchen can be dispiriting! And then I go over to mum's little home in our garden and I have to tidy her new kitchen too because she is messy!!! She keeps bits of card and paper off everything. And used string and elastic bands and bits of kitchen paper she wiped up a spill with. And don't get me started on all the plastic grocery bags she keeps stuffed into one another. I have found hundreds in her old home.

As someone that moved a lot I suggest that maybe if you frame the decluttering process difderent in your mind it can help. Think about it this way: you are making sure that whaterever you bring into you knew home are things you need or want to keep, all the excess is gonna be behind you and you can focus on the organizing and decorating aspects in your new home.
And dont beat yourself about the amount there is still to be done, one bag at time, you gonna get there. Think about what you already acomplished and try to get some "small wins", like organizing a bathroom cabinet instead of the entire bathroom. Keeping a house clean and organized IS a constant battle, everyday a step and eventually we arrive at the final line! You know, like the turtle racing against the hare story.

You are doing great, Libby. Reminded me I need to get my butt up and in my kitchen to scrub as well. I don't know if the Pink Stuff is expensive or not, but another cleaner that works fantastic is Barkeeper's Friend. I use both the liquid and the powder version on different surfaces and it's just the best. Keep on plugging away one bag at a time. You're going to be ready when moving time comes and in your new place you'll feel amazing having left behind so much stuff.

I decluttered my house for over a year and still never finished. However, I am grateful for all I got rid of. Be proud of your months progress! Its been two years since that declutter and I hope to start again. I did bring much less into the house over the last two years as a result of the declutter experience. It pays itself forward. My biggest excitement was when I worked hard enough with my youngest son to get enough stuff out that it all fit on his shelves. I never did get the stuff organized on the shelves or a perfect vaccuum once it was cleared. This time around perhaps?

I hope the next morning you woke up and went to sort out the day in the kitchen and felt the lovely calm and contentment of an ordered space. Who cares if it's going to get chaotic again (that's what homes are for - to live in and do things in) - right then in that morning it was a gift you gave yourself 😊 Also, very motivational for me - thank you!

So this question came to my mind as you were talking about when you move into your own place you will be the only adult and can declutter things easier because there are other things in the kitchen that are not yours.....
I know you and your ex are still living together....
So here is my question....why are you cleaning up after him and cooking his food for him? Like Im not asking that as a means of I'll will towards him but the honest reality is he would have to clean up his things and cook his food if you were gone, right? So why are you doing it now?
Maybe designate areas of the kitchen like cabinets/drawers that are for your things and his things, then focus on controlling your things only and not his. Clean your dishes only and not his.
I have lived with friends before in the past, and we had clear boundaries of where our things were at and cooking/cleaning up for ourselves. Just a thought that could help you feel less overwhelmed because you should focus on you and your son.

Like is it bad habits that will not stop, or more deeper problems of unfaithfulness or u guys grew apart bc he still seems like he still wants to be with you? Maybe I'm wrong?! When my kids were in their late teens, I went through depression, anxiety, early menopause and then diagnosed with adhd. I couldn’t leave the house. I did made sure that the garbage was always taken out and nothing could stay on the floor.
