rain world seems so cool but my brain only likes focusing on things that are familar so uh. this might be hard to get into
The "learning curve" seems to be having to he obsessed with the game because it's a souls like, and therefore finding a bunch of videos or devlogs on youtube to "learn" all of the hidden speed strats.
@@jackbishop8610I mean i don’t really think that’s fair, sure you can just like look things up but due to the nature of the game and it’s gates, you are really rewarded for exploring and experimenting, the more you play and naturally interact with your environment and enemies, the more you are going to naturally get better at dealing with the problems the game presents
Rainworld is such a brutal game. I cannot fathom how people came up with the movements of the slugcat inputs and direction you are suppose to go. Yet people are able to 'finish' and speedrun it. It's insane yet rewarding once mastered.

@@jackbishop8610 I think the difficulty is because of things such as giant flying dinosaurs that can shoot giant spikes out their body that instantly impales and kills you
you can easily survive without doing all the fancy movement
the only thing that they "hide" from you which is really useful is the slide, but even that can easily be accidentally discovered by a new player.

the beginning is so confusing for me lol, when i played i was stuck in the same area, every way was a dead end
@@hazzy5714 when you start you should focus on raising your karma level(the weird symbol that improves when you hibernate and decreases when you die). once you get to a certain level the weird yellow eye thing will lead you to the next area.

Hi! I have not seen your content before, and was likely reccomended this video as I am a rain world veteran who regularly consumes seemingly all new rain world content on youtube. I have to say that I commend your perseverance and persistence! You have far greater willpower than the average content creator who discovers rain world, thinks it will be a cute little platformer and immediately gives up on it when they realise that it is not that simple... or easy. The game is brutal and unforgiving as I know you now understand, and this has earnt it criminally low scores from game journalists who did not have time to experience the game properly. The real joy of the game comes after the first 90 hours or so in my experience, when you reappy start to feel as if you know what you are doing. Obviously no one can reasonably expect people to spend that long on the game, but there is still fun to be had earlier on. Once you get over the initial learning curve you get to experience some of the best environmental storytelling, the best art, the best combat and even some of the best movement I have ever come across in a game. The game is truly unique. Thank you for giving it a chance.

Rain World is genuinely one of my favorite games and I always had "Maybe Spiff will play it one day" in the back of my mind. I'm so happy to see that he actually did.
What's the allure of the game I've seen several people try it but everyone has gave up it seems it crosses the line from challenging to unfair and unfun
@@austinchristensen1487 beautiful environments, simple yet complex movement, a world that is constantly in action even when you're not there, intelligent ai, the scavengers in general being some of the most complex npcs I've ever seen in anything, a mysterious narrative for those that are really into that, obviously its not for everyone, but I freaking SUCK at this game and I still love it
@@austinchristensen1487 It doesn't cross that line (except for Farm Arrays). Rain World just doesn't hold your hand like many modern games do and you have to figure out many things by yourself. However it's not even that unfair once you get a grasp on basic mechanics but many people just don't give it a chance.

@@tomaszwojciulathe thing that kills it for me is the platforming and movement mechanics. The rng related stuff doesn’t help either. I played through games like dark souls and Sekiro and ended up loving them but can’t get super into rain world no matter how many times I try(around 4-5 times starting a new game over now). Karma mechanic always ends up pushing me to start a new game when I got really stuck in a certain biome or at a certain safe zone

@@buttonasas I think they were talking about the fact that Spiff was so close to the Chimney Canopy/The Wall gate, and went left into Sky Islands instead of right.
Rainworld is one of those games that I desperately wish I could play, but is just not the kind of gameplay I enjoy. Without some concrete goal, or place to go in mind, I just lose motivation really fast, so watching other people play is a godsend. I hope that you continue this, you're easily my favourite channel to watch for stuff like this!
There is a final goal, it's just kinda spoilers to tell. You can complete each story, sometimes multiple ways.
The goal isn't obvious, and I feel your pain. I really only started playing _after_ spoiling myself with certain things (like characters and endings), so once I started playing I was filled with a lot of determination to get to and ending, despite not knowing how.
Same, but after spoiling myself about lore and objectives i was able to play and enjoy it. You can also set your own objectives for yourself :D.
The goal is reaching max Karma, then going to the Depths to ascend. What happens will astound you. The other campaigns, bar Monk, are far harder.
there are two major goals to work towards, it's just not made obvious what they are. the weird yellow eye thing will guide you(not super well tbh and it makes a detour to visit moon) to the first objective, something else will guide you to the second objective.

literally woke up, opened youtube, saw that this video was posted RIGHT as the app loaded. an hour long video of one of my favorite games in the world is a pretty good morning in my book. always love seeing people's reactions to stuff like leviathans and vultures, and this is no exception. damn good work on the video, always love seeing this game get the attention it deserves.
As someone who has been playing rain world these past few days, not only do I hope you finish the survivor campaign, but I hope you get the downpour dlc as it expands the game 10 fold.
Honestly, I would say you've handled the brutality of being on the bottom of the food chain quite well.

I can’t get over the silence between Spiff rock thing hitting the wall, and the absolute horror and screams of him getting mauled by wasps at 6:21.
I just realized that Sloaf looks at the camera for 0.1 seconds like he thinks that wasn’t gonna do anything, and then the wasps start violently attacking him.
I loved this video so much. The piano setting in whenever shit went down got me laughing for the whole thing. Definitely want more videos on this. Rain World is also one of the few streams I actually managed to catch and just watching that was a lot of fun, saying as someone who doesn't watch a lot of live streams.
For some reason seeing rain world get any amount of attention brings me joy

OMG YES! I absolutely love watching new people find this absolute gem of a game. I’m so glad you made a video about this, and trust me, the deaths are not a reflection of you being bad at the game, this is just how Rain World works. I’m so glad you took the time to play this, and as someone who has over 200 hours in this game, the more you play the more the Rain world brain rot takes over lmao. This game has been my hyperfixation for a solid 4 or 5 months, it is absolutely beautiful. I’ve completed all the campaigns except Hunter, where I only have gotten the easy ending only. There is a story that’s quite compelling but it is hard to find, especially for new players. I’d recommend trying the DLC slugcats, as they all have unique abilities and are (in my opinion) way more fun then survivor.

My god! I put it down for a few weeks after getting really stuck in a tough spot on one of the harder runs and then I just got out of it this morning. With how little attention Rain World has, I was almost thinking of starting my own channel around it. I don't usually comment on stuff, but waking up to see my favourite streamer posted an hour long video of my absolute favourite game was SUCH a joy. This game is hard, but it's mostly because you're not told how to do anything, which is kind of a blessing and a curse. I am so glad to see this game get more attention, would kill to see more of this game from you!

this is the only playthrough spiff has ever done that i went and watched the VODs because i couldn't wait for the video to drop (nor did i expect it to become a video until i heard him say it would in the VOD), more rain world is always welcome
just note, that the base game is like 100+ hours if you wanna complete everything the game has to offer, and the DLC is almost thrice that amount of content
it also has really good speedrunning potential and a healthy speedrunning scene, as well as some official community challenges that can be found on the official discord server, with the reward being bragging rights and a role on the server
oh also you would never get lost in chimney canopy and sky islands if you hadn't killed iggy (the yellow overseer (the tutorial guy))

Seeing you struggle in the chimney canopy and then seeing what the Sky Islands were.... Made me really glad I went the Shaded Citadel route in the end. Hard to see in there, but at least there's less BS deaths
i love this game so damn much, there's also a Downpour DLC that released this year. the dlc has like 3x more content than the base game and each campaign are in different timezones and it's amazing with great enviromental storytelling

Man, seeing you upload rain world just made my week. It's the only game I've 100% on steam (including its dlc) and a game I've been following since only a year after its release. I have such a love-hate relationship with it (mostly love, the hate comes from the horrid challenges... i still shiver thinking of challenge 70) and considering it's a not super well known indie game (although the dlc DID make it explode a bit) seeing a youtuber I already quite enjoy playing it is amazing.

I can totally relate to your getting pissed for finding the first "thing" after so many hours, only to get (seemingly) absolutely nothing out of it.
When I first encountered it, grabbing the "brain cells" seemed to be the only thing that evokes any kind of response, and since I couldn't imagine there was to be actually no tangable reward or narrative progress for the encounter, I ate it, and ate them all.

I really like this game because it really makes you think about your environment and how to handle different creatures. You learn to outmaneuver the sluggish green lizards, keep an eye out for white lizards, and much more, each enemy has a different way it can be overcome, and I really adore it, glad you could play it.
