GoPro is just better overall. OA3 isnât a bad camera, but you get much more (especially with Labs firmware) with HERO11.

You failed to mention that with the GoPro subscription you get the discount (got my hero 11 mini for $299.00) and you get unlimited cloud storage, and all of your GoPros', no mater when you bought them, will be replaced (no questions asked) if they break...for free.
Don't forget the Record from sleep is way faster on the Action 3 compared to the GoPro 11. To me it's a huge advantage to be able to record almost instantaneously.

ive bought two dji drones and they are both fantastic. never had a problem out of a dji product, and overheating, sd card corruption, cutting files into small bits, and webcam issues out of my gopro. plus the loss of live preview, the extra battery life from the 7 was not worth it and i wish the action 3 was what i purchased after losing my hero 7 black in a kayaking situation that was my fault. but wondering about battery life in the action 3. and can it function as a usb 4k webcam?
Yeah, DJI doesn't charge your for access to basic settings like changing the interval on timelapse videos. GoPro can go to hell.

i've had a Gopro since 2014 love the old thing , never needed to update, and the preview during record on the Gopro app still works on my 3+black .
and is one of several reasons i just bought the Osmo Action 3 . (for no other reason than to update )
i have the DJI mini2 and love the Fly app and expected nothing less from Memo ,
besides that i love the mag-mount , the battery life .the dji in app editing ease just as DJI FLY , the fast charging , the touch front screen . the un edited colour scales . and the price , and also i'd rather have a focus issue than a gopro 10 or 11 that sporadically shuts off for what ever reason they do that . thanks .

Outstanding review. We purchased the first gen DJI Osmo Action in Aug '19, installed a pair of fuzzy "dead cat" mic covers, and have been using it on all of our YT run vids. Great battery life and has never shut down, even during our R2R's in the Grand Canyon. The new 3 is looking pretty appealing!

Just got a hero 11, upgrading from a hero 4 wow some big improvements ,but have experienced shutdowns from overheating in 4K video mode and does take some time to charge and still has the same fiddly screw mount.
But performs really well, the DJI camera looks good, thanks
I waited for a worthy camera upgrade and was originally planning for a heavy ass DSLR. Osmo Action 3 just got me hooked ever since its release. I should really be getting it asap.
Nice video, good job. Would you also make another one to compare different accessories and mounting options for Dji? For GoPro (I hate their native mounting solution) there is a whole ecosystem of different stuff, mounting on tripods, gimbals, even with peak design plates. I wonder what's available for dji. That magnet mount is a game changer for me, especially when traveling, hiking etc. I often switch my camera angle, sometimes on backpack, sometimes on strap, sometimes handheld.

I have the DJI Pocket 2 (use for my walk vids), Sony a7c (night events), Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra 512GB, and GoPro Hero 8 Black (waterslide vids). Might get this to replace my GoPro 8, and it will help with my 4k walk videos too because the Pocket 2 can only record up to 60 minutes in 4k30fps before the battery dies. I'm a New Zealand CZcamsr will be visiting Sydney for 11 nights in December and over NYE. Thanks for sharing this vid.

Solid review - i just recently sold my bridge camera along with my gopro max - i wasnt sure if i wanted to keep the max or not so i just decided to move everything on and figured id decide what i wanted to buy in the meantime - now i did like the gopro max it was decent and i think a better camera than the insta360 one-r which was its rival... but im debating if i should just buy a dji osmo action 3 or gp11 instead of a 360 cam, tempted to try an insta360 one-x2 or one-x3... i dont think i would buy a one-r because they have had so many problems with overheating i just think its a poor design fault.
What would you do?

I could not really find honest comparison, pointing out all negatives of go pro 10/11 (except price). Now, because of price, batteries included in extended version, time to charge, max record time on battery which is really important for me on motorcycle,(both being able to record 4k, magnetic mounting systems of dji, I really know I want dji :)! I have noticed that the waterproof depth rating is only 16m, does anyone know if they do a housing for it to allow it to be used deeper for scuba diving to say at least 40m?
How are the manual settings on the osmo? Can you do a full overview of every setting versus the GoPro 11 protune?
White balance, iso range, shutter speed, flat color profiles, 10 bit/raw, etc? Can I set white balance by shooting a gray card or is it manual like on gopro?
But the GoPro can focus unlike many Action 3 cameras!

Thanks Daz for your great review, despite the Go pro hero 11 superior video resolution, I am tempted to buy the DJI action 3, once the new firmware update is released, it will boost the image quality, Action 3 seems to be more reliable, better battery life, fast charging and better cold resistance.

I'm currently interested in buying a DJI Pocket 2 for a vlogging camera, but I did strongly consider getting the Action 3 instead. It's really power-packed and has so many more features than my current Osmo Action. But it's not really what I'm looking for in a vlogging camera. But it does seem like a good pick for an action camera and I might get one sometime in the future. But as of right now, my old Action should do the trick just fine. Really, the main difference between 1 and 3 is efficiency. Like with the quick release mount and more Action circumstances. If one has the action 1, I don't strongly suggest upgrading unless you NEED the longer battery life and quick release mount. But if someone has no action camera (or worse, a GoPro đ€ź)then this does seem like a really good upgrade!
Iâve had my eyes on pocket 2 but i figured that i can use gopro during the day especially and pocket 2 during the night. Pocket 2 is great with low light.
@@808Czar Yeah. The 1/1.7 inch (I think) sensor is much better in low light compared to the old 1/2.3 inch sensor. The new osmo action three actually has the same size sensor (it may even be the exact same sensor entirely since they're both by DJI), so theoretically you could use either for both day and night. I think it just comes down to physical form factor and which one you'd prefer to use. I personally like the gimbal, active track, and overall shape of the pocket, but I can understand how someone might prefer the form factor and quickness of an action camera. So it really is down to personal preference.

What are your thoughts on the Action 2 vs the Action 3? I have the 2 and Im on the fence whether to get the 3...mainly the battery life and how everything is all in the 3 vs the 2 you need the attachment for the SD card. And its takes forever to transfer the videos from the camera to the SD card module....but the compactiblity of the 2 is awesome

One thing I noticed is the new cage has no hot shoe mounts for third party wireless microphone. Itâs like they designed it solely for the dji wireless microphone kit

I was tempted to buy one of these but found endless posts on some of them coming brand new with focus issues. Its a pretty huge issue in terms of video quality on the videos and photos ive seen. I opted to go with the go pro in the end. Didnt want to take the risk of the camera turning up with fuzzy focus
You just screw/unscrew the lens a bit and find the correct focus. DJI should have said it from day 1 so people wouldn't spread this frustration. It cannot be fixed with firmware, it is a lens not screwed at the right spot, a 5 minute fix for anyone to do it themselves.

@@xxsilver_gamingxx389 No usually there is a tiny amount of glue that you can scrape off (it is like hot glue blob), then all you do is grab the lends from the head and try to screw-unscrew it.

In any case if you get a new DJI Osmo Action 3 they should have them already fixed. You will most likely not take an early version of it.
What happened to the GoPro review? My GP11 overheats constantly at 4k30 yet my new DJI hasn't overheated at all. My GP11 also freezes, and loses footage. Say's it's recording but locks up somewhere in the middle.

I have a different perspective on the pricing. I think itâs not âletâs price against GP,â but we screwed up and got greedy and priced A2 like Apple prices iphones more than laptops as they can. At $519, DJI didnât get traction and when they discounted it to $359, they sold more so they learned that pricing it at $329, they will sell more A3âs and thatâs the sweet spot entry pricing.
But if you want to compare apples-2-apples, then Iâm not sure itâs cheaper. 8-bit vs 10-bit, how much would you pay for that. And the argument of they will come out in 2mos can be said about GP will come out with GP12 in 12mos with better specs. Right now, itâs only 8 vs 10. So how much would you pay for 10bit? $100 more?
And the horizon 360 lock in all shooting modes for GP11 except slomo 120 and only in linear view lens. How much is that worth as A3 can only do that in 2.7K?
And back to the bit depth of 10-bit is different with DR (dynamic range) which thereâs enough video out there showing GP is ahead here even with the GP10 vs A2. Since A3 is a repackaged A2, I donât see adding 10-bit will improve the DR. It will help with having no banding in the skies but not help recover blown out highlights or improving shadows in dark backgrounds.
Donât get me wrong, I am agnostic with these brands and will get all of them, A3, GP11, and RS 360 1â but we have to call a spade a spade.
If I need better DR, sharpness and details, Iâm going for the GP11.
If I need better UI/UX, longer battery life, indoor studio long form shooting and good thermal management, water sports without a housing under 16m, more pleasing colors (personal taste), then Iâm going for the A3.
If I want lowlight, IQ, and first person POV and reframing, then the RS 360 1â.
Just depends on what tool is needed.
This comparison of brands against one another is fun but each person need to see what works for their needs, workflow, and budget rather than knock on each brand for what it wasnât design for. Part at fault is these action cam brands need to listen more to what their customers want and/or communicate better what the design was intended for.
Comparing these action cams for lowlight is like comparing smartphones against mirrorless cams and saying itâs too digital or not good enough. Action cams will struggle in lowlight with less than 1â sensors and not fast enough fixed apertures.
For lowlight, go for the RS 360 1â, ZV1, P2 or hopefully P3 soon.
For overheating, stop using it for long form when action cams donât have proper thermal designs or designed in small form factors and waterproof with nowhere for heat to release. Otherwise use a $20-$30 cooling fan and shoot all day.
Anyhow, enjoy all the great options we have and go out to shoot. Canât go wrong with any of the offerings being released these days

Great information. I am trying to make a decision whether to keep my Hero 9 or get another camera. I am currently leaning toward a 360 camera because based on what I have seen, they will do most all that the Go Pro and Action 3, plus some other abilities. There are so many options with different weights and prices.
Hate to burst your bubble, but I did the exact same thing. Went and bought a Insta360 OneX2 instead of getting an action camera. Although I love my X2, itâs amazing when using it for 360 shooting. It is not better than an action camera for regular shooting though. And that is why I am here reviewing whether or not to go for the GoPro or Action 3. One of these with a 360 camera as itâs partner makes for amazing videos.

@@kilikolo56 I went with the GoPro and boy am I happy. Bought a Sandisk Extreme Plus 128gb and can record a little over 2 hours at the highest video settings. Battery lasts a little over an hour which is quite impressive. I would recommend getting the subscription for more than one reason. The best reason is the unlimited cloud storage. Canât go wrong.
@@eRosasProduction can you not just put it into action mode though? i had a gopro max and you could shoot in 360 or just in normal gopro mode.
@@s1dew1nd3r4 so Iâm not sure about the Max, but the X2 I believe only shoots action mode in 1440p. You wonât get the 5k like in 360 mode.
Already seen enough of the difference in dynamic range to go for the GP11, itâs far nicer đ

The Action 3 does seem like the more practical camera, but the Hero 11 seems to have better images quality. So it comes down to what is more important to your needs. Great video, and thanks for sharing.

Yea, I think the comparisons are GoPro 10 bit vs DJI 8 bit. Not really apples to apples. We will see once there is a firmware update.
@@Dr.Octogon The image still looks over processed in 10 bit. After 3 weeks of professional use, I've exchanged mine for a Go Pro 11. Reluctantly. I loved everything about the DJI but the image quality was poor.

@@DMProductions absolutely.. i'd be happy with the original but this upgrade with the overheating benefit is rocksolid. I had the first model and used an aluminum case for heat sink. My mistake was selling it to get the insta 360R It over heated indoors while just recording a fish tank. I was so disappointed. This is now the way i will go. Heat issues are a big deal... especially since I'm here now in the Philippines! cheers for your review!

@@DMProductions Cool. From what I've seen the GoPro 11 is better but not so much for the price difference. The truth is they both are rather mushy and lacking in low light which is a shame.
@@DMProductions I think action 3 is better in low light as far as colours go. I can put up with a little loss in sharpness but have more natural colours that the action 3 has in these conditions. I tried the gopro 11 but it did not match the action 3 user experience.
I've just had 3 weeks using the Action 3 professionally and I've sent it back. Although it has good build quality, and excellent battery life I just couldn't get away from the poor and over processed image quality. I had a camera with a November production date and had put the latest firmware on it but certain parts of the image looked 'plasticy' and I had an issue with the right hand side of the lens being slightly out of focus/soft whereas the left hand side was fine. Again I must stress it was the latest firmware.
The final decider was having it running alongside my old Yi4K at a conference. The Yi, a cheaper and older camera, gave me a more detailed image and was sharp edge to edge. Yes the Action 3 had a better dynamic range but it had an image that looked like it had an awful lot of processing going on + the right hand side lens issue.
I loved the mounts, the battery life, the interface. Yes it did overheat on me in 4K, probably because I accidentally left hyper smooth on. I wanted to love it. I had hoped it would match the other DJI products I own. But it's lacklustre where it really matters (image quality).
So reluctantly I've gone for a Go Pro 11. I really didn't want to. Worse battery life, worse mounts, I actively dislike Go Pro as a company. However as Yi don't make their Go Pro beaters any more, what can I do?

@@yerbolatuzakbay6895 I replaced the Action 3 with a Go Pro 11. It's far better although it has a tendency to crush black areas of the picture. Get it with a Go Pro sub direct from them (you get a discount) and then cancel the sub after 1 month. You want to avoid being charged for a second year.

Someone commented that you need to unscrew the lens and find the correct focus ?
For me, filming 4k60f without shutting down in 20 minutes, worth all. "but the image is not so good" the difference between the color bits is really impressive, but you'll only notice this when put a comparison side by side, and a good post production can handle this.

I use GoPro's and have v9.0's and whilst they do the job most of the time, I get more and more frustrated with GoPro every day.
1. The batteries are sh*t to start with. I even bought the extreme batteries and they're no better. They just die at 24-30% capacity
2. Be wary of the subscription model as they charge you the subscription every year without warning (breaking UK law) and will not refund you. I had to go to Paypal to get a refund.
3. They often take 3-5 seconds to boot up
4. They freeze up needing the battery to be removed and replaced.
5. The remote control is so niggly and I have lost countless opportunites due to the remote not connecting to a camera. It happens all the time, I have to re-connect them and even then a few hours later the remotre stops working.
6. Support is literally non existent and they seem to have removed a lot of forum articles recently.
7. Forget about recording in anything like cold weather with GoPros, they just shut down
8. When they're not shutting down due to cold, they're over heating!!!
I have kept the firmware updated so its not that,
GoPros are crap and they need more competition. I'll definitely be trying out the Action 3.
Itâs such a shame as GoPro is the leader in action cameras, has good colours in video but firmware and software let it down and the slow speed that problems are addressed
These issues are the same ones I've had, almost exactly. The only other issue I have is that the screen is so terrible, I have to use my phone to update date and time every time I use my two Hero 9 Blacks. Then my phone won't connect to them with ease, either, so I have to pull the batteries out of them after taking them out of their mounts, which takes minutes to do. GoPros are 100% THE worst cameras I have ever owned in 20 years, full stop.

@@SailingWithDave I have a Sony FDRx3000 I still use. It has 4K and is probably 10 years old now. I have NEVER had to reset the date and time on that, even when the battery dies, which it doesn't have any phantom draw anywhere to make it die. My GoPro batteries die within a few days from phantom draw and then resetting the date and time is just plain ridiculous since the latest firmware update. They literally made it a more terrible camera system than it was prior to that firmware.
@@rippinglipsadventures Nice camera, I wonder with 3D printing if you could make decent brackets for it to fix to things? I was out sailing yesterday in 15C (so still warm) and pretty much all my GP batteries died at about 28 to 30%. The extreme ones were no better and the bottoms of those have also fallen out exposing the battery now. I bought the Telsin batteries off Amazon with a triple charger and they remain much better but it only solves one of the issues.
I made an awesome video of me breaking speed records on the boat in 20mph winds and guess what.... I get to shore, check the camera and it completely froze up at about 1M30s so it missed everything. Had to remove the battery to reset it. This market is for the taking.

got my action 3 3 weeks ago and it works flawlessly. and i can mount it from helmet to chest, to handlebar without even stopping my bike! and 1 battery got me to almost 3 hours on 2.7K 60fps! my friend decided to get H11 2 days ago, now the changing of settings is already buggy! đ buy a name or buy reliability!
how you getting on with it now? recently sold my gopro max and will be eventually looking to either buy another 360 cam maybe insta this time or something like a gp11 or dji action3!

i was waiting for gopro 11 for the last 3 months cause i didnt want to buy 10 when 11 was so close to release..... BUT now osmo action 3 won my heart cause its almost as good as gopro 11 in image quality and it dont overheat and way more cheap. so im very close to buy the adventure pack.
If it's almost as good, then why are you entertaining the Osmo Action. The best camera is always the one that offers the better image quality. You buy the Action 3 and you take a chance of getting one that has focusing issues. It's a crap shoot.
