    remember the days of just opening your hood to replace headlights or being able to take out a few screws so your headlight falls free and out come the old bulbs. leds can definitely clean up the look of your ride

    I have a 1st Gen Fusion which had horrible front lighting from the factory. The best money I ever spent on improving the lighting on my car was buying led bulbs for my foglights (a bought a set for low-beam headlights too but was unable to use them due to changing to aftermarket projector assemblies- the bulb wouldn't fit inside the projector housing). The light coverage of the road is in my opinion as good if not better than even HIDs. The bulbs aren't cheap, I think I spent about $50/ set but man, they are worth every penny. The same holds true for the backup lights.

    So you don't get an error about your headlamp being burned out? My Escape Hybrid did that but I'm anxious to do this on my Fusion Energi. Also, do the DRLs still function? I know at least on the Escapes, they use pulse width modulation and that causes flicker if you don't install a relay harness.

    I changed the low beam headlights on my old 2015 Ford Escape SE a couple times w/o taking the entire light itself. I used to have that SUV. I used to have a 2011 Mercury Milan and even changed the headlight on the driver’s side a couple times. I took out the air filter to get to the headlight. I used to have a 1998 Ford Contour that I replaced the bulbs a couple times by taking out the entire light itself by a screw driver. It was just 3 screw for each light. I have to figure out my current vehicle for the headlights which is a 2020 Ford Escape SE in black. I never did changed the headlights on a 2005 Ford Focus just the back ones which was easy to do.

      @actthree34 Před 7 lety +1

      I wondered about that during your installation video. An amber lens requires an amber LED (and a red lens requires a red LED). I just checked the source I use for LED bulbs (superbrightleds) and they don't have an amber LED for the front turn signal on a Fusion. In fact, I couldn't find an LED replacement on any of the common internet sources. You may have to stick with a conventional bulb for that application.

    • @brian5o
      @brian5o Před 7 lety

      Don't do the turn signals, I purchased some for my car when I purchased my headlights. They blinked a few times then the computer stopped them from blinking I believe due to the drop in resistance of the LED blinker bulbs. They do sell inline resistors that you can install but you'd have to cut into the harness to the bulb to install them. I went back to the incandescent bulbs and they are fine for that. Congrats on the upgrade, I did mine about 3-4 months ago and have absolutely loved the difference ever since.

    1:57 I have this car and the grill shutters were actually damaged (from road debris). No warning light or nothing. When I removed the bumper to fix it I notice ford gives you a place to store the clip connection, so I started the car with this unplugged and nothing. This is a secondary system that won't throw a engine light. Heck, some c-max hybrid people completely seal these grills to get better highway mpg.

    I think it's not bad to have standard lamps in the front and LEDs in the back, although driving behind a vehicle with led backlights can be blinding depending on manufacturer, but still LED in the back no problem usually another insurance company has to pay those expensive taillights but in the front usually you have to pay yourself, soo halogen is just fine as it is way cheaper

    I have a strange problem with my headlights. I changed the low beams to LED and they worked fine for a few weeks. Then the left headlight would turn off randomly, if I turn the fog lights on and then turn them off it will turn back on. Eventually it wouldn't turn on again for a few days. Then it came back and it worked fine
    Any idea what could cause this? I rechecked all the connections, I don't think that's the problem anyway because like I said they work fine after changing the fog lights. High beams, fog lights and right low beam work perfectly fine. Only the left low beam turns off randomly.

    The only reason the early Fusions don't have HID or LED lighting is Ford trying to make buyers move up to our North America exclusive Lincoln MKZ (the European & Asian Mondeo had them since 2014). Thankfully the 2017 refresh brought the Fusion LED headlights as standard equipment.

      His Fusion (all fusions 2013+) has projector housings, used for LED and HIDs which have a sharp cutoff as to not blind drivers at night. Normal halogen refelctor bowls have that problem, which is why you shouldn't put an LED or HID in a reflector housing.

    • @MicraHakkinen
      @MicraHakkinen Před 7 lety +1

      Speaking from personal experience only, I recommend to either go with a reputable brand (like Philips) or alternatively, get a relatively cheap version from a site like AliExpress that was specifically recommended by someone you trust. I've ordered a lot of different LED lights from AliExpress and a good amount of them are just horrible quality. This also applies to most of the no-name LED lights sold at auto stores.
      And if you're handy with electronics, things like parking lights lend themselves perfectly to design your own. I made my own W5W LED bulbs and they work like a charm. I used cheap Chinese W5W LEDs just for the plastic fitting, had a bunch of 10mm round PCB's made in China for next to nothing and soldered on 3 high-power 5mm LEDs with two resistors hidden inside the fitting.
      Also some LED lights have some integrated electronics so it doesn't matter which way you connect them, but especially for high-power lamps this circuitry generates extra heat that can make them less reliable.
      Lastly, more and more modern cars will monitor the power consumption from the lights and if they detect no or too little load, will indicate a failed bulb while in fact you have a perfectly functional LED light. Many LEDs are advertised as 'CAN bus compatible' or something similar, which just means they have a resistor soldered on to consume extra power. I tend to avoid those as the added resistor again results in more heat being generated and possible an earlier failure. If you need to 'fool' your car into thinking an incandescent bulb is present, look for LED lights that come with an (optional) external module for the required increased electrical load. Those are generally much more reliable because the heat is kept away from the light itself and because they can be dimensioned to easily handle the required power, instead of being undersized and squeezed in with the bulb design.

    Some of you need to chill out. If you have projector lenses (like this guy has) there is a cut off for the light, which helps reduce the chance of actually blinding other drivers. If you don't have projectors, you should probably look into a blacked out housing and make sure you're aiming the lights correctly. I personally recommend blacking out the housing even with a projector. Also to just kind of add to anyone gasping at the amount of work you have to do just to get to the bulbs.. you don't need to remove the front wheels to take the bumper off. Not unless you're Andre The Giant or something. You can simply work around the wheels and then pop off the bumper (he didn't show the process of removing all the clips either, just the bolts ;) fun times). Anyway, some people love LEDs other people love HIDs. if you are new to the car world, or at least to the lights world, I recommend doing LEDs first. Sure they cost a little more, but they are also very simple to install. That's just me though.

    Right. Only thing he did extra was remove the tires. All you have to do is turn the steering wheel all the way to one side.

    I installed the same Phillips LEDs cause the low beam halogens on mine are super dull, but there was minimal improvement to the brightness and light output. Staring right at the lights is one thing, but how your low beams light up the road is another story altogether. I can barely see 50ft to 100ft in front of me. I own a 2018 SE model and I’m raging cz I can’t see as I need to at night. Just add night time driving to your checklist when shopping for cars in the future guys or you’ll burn money looking for a fix. Smh.

      They definitely did not want it to be an easy replacement for the normal Joe consumer

    The oil from your fingers will cause the bulb to over heat and burn out when it's on

    In before someone says the LED 'won't throw right and will blind people' with the standard enclosure.
