There's a sad story about this. Franky Valli sang this to his daughter at bedtime. She unfortunately died of a overdose later in her late teens to early twenties. God please hold her to your heart .
This is a very sweet song. No smut or innuendo, just saying how he has loved her, and she doesn't even know he exists. I had that same experience with one of the girls on my block. She was a couple of years older than I was. I finally got the nerve to say hello. Nothing romantic ever became of it, but she turned out to be a wonderful life long friend.
I used to walk to school and sing this song, for my "first love," and it still reminds me of him, and the joy of feeling the sunshine on my shoulders, every time I hear it.
Just imagine being in Junior high with this song playing everyday. You knew you would think of this song latter in life and think about the ones that got away.

Glad you get to experience our youth!
