The Non-Canon Expert describes the reasons why yellow lightsabers were so rare for Jedi, particularly within the final decades of the Jedi Order. - Zábava
It's an interesting thought, the Sentinel school of the Jedi seems like it would have been a better fit for Anakin as he already possessed some life skills by the time he became a padawan, in particular, his affinity for fixing and building electronics such as ships and droids. I wonder how differently things would have unfolded had Anakin been a Jedi Sentinel?
Same
Yea maybe he wouldn’t have killed 90% of the Jedi order
@@big_sea
Nah, he likely would've still had to kill them eventually, being the Chosen One and all 😅
In good old kotor yess
Since the Jedi were not at balance they had to be destroyed!
In the Jedi Path there is a note from Sidious stating that most of the Jedi who survived Order 66 were Sentinels. Life skills FOR THE WIN!
AJ Jones #lifehacks
Which may also be why Vader had little to no trouble wiping the last few out.
Probably because they were not seen as a priority because of their lack of skills to appose Vader. But granted their life skills kept them hidden longer than most other jedi's.
JustJoe they could do like Kannan did in Star Wars Rebels and hidden their lightsabers and blend in. Real world example, Nazis after WW II took off their uniforms and swastikas and went to South America.
AJ Jones in George’s EU they did.
So the Jedi sentinels were what the Jedi should have always been
The1Madox Yes ballance.
From a certain point of view
And most likely the majority of jedi that survived order 66
Ya. Alliances, beers, and breaking skulls.
We were the kind most likely to survive Order 66, too.
Pata-Pata-Pata-Pon!
Overall, sounds like the Sentinels had a better sense of how life worked.
@elviade in other words the Sentinels were the NSA to the Guardians' FBI.
@@lordnul1708 more like Guardians=FBI & Counselors=NSA to Sentinels=CIA
@@lordnul1708 Guardians=cops, Counselors=hostage negotiator, & Sentinels=SWAT
@@NavyDave219 Nah, Guardians were the SWAT (combat specialists), and Sentinels were your community police (their specialty is being part of the community, and they know the locals by first name).
@@michaelharder9737 Guardians are basic soldiers/police while the Sentinels are more specialized in various methodologies and tactics. Good comparison would be the Guardians are soldiers while the Sentinels are Special Forces, Green Berets a.k.a "Force Multiplyers" working closely with foreign forces and communities.
Good video. One example I remember seeing somewhere that explained the different mindsets between the three orders was this...
There's a locked door that a Jedi needs to go through. A consular would be most likely to use the force to persuade a guard to open it for him. A guardian would most likely use his lightsaber to cut through the door. A sentinel would most likely just pick the lock.
Yes. KOTOR.
>Yellow is for sentinels and rare.
>"Use skills not related to the force, such as Intelligence"
Yeah that's about right.
I would like a yellow one more than a blue one
Obi-Wan Kenobi You aren't the only one.
I want an orange
I`d prefer a silver/white!
paradyneT101 oh shit like in kotor 2 I forgot those were dope af
Obi-Wan Kenobi The company Ultrasabers has the Aegean silver blade for sabers... I'm definitely getting 2 silver for myself ..and now a yellow.
Ah the yellow crystal one of my favorite color crystals. For some reason its a common crystal to find in kotor2 well to me but still my fav :)
LoneRecruit 221 love KOTR 1 and 2, though 2 is a bit confusing for me Bastilla is a Jedi sentinel in KOTR 1....Id love to see them make an updated version for Xbox one
LoneRecruit 221 It is a common color crystal. Used by almost every Jedi Sentinel.
That is because at the time of KOTOR1 & 2 this notion that your specific job within the Jedi order dictated the color of your lightsaber, didn't exist. Durring the time of KOTOR, the had not discovered Illum yet (or at least rediscover it, there are Je'dai and Sith temples there). The colors of the lightsabers were based off of what planet they came from and how they developed in nature. Kinda like an emerald mine as opposed to a sapphire mine. The reason that the sith lighsabers were red was because they were artificially manufactured. There are also references to the actual sith race getting crystals from Korriban and they were red and orange hues. Illum is the Jedi's primary source of lightsaber crystals and only has green or blue crystals. The Star Wars universe kinda flip flops on this point a lot. Illum being the source of lightsaber crystals is still cannon (SWtCW). The yellow crystals primarly came from Adega but it was a rare crystal to obtain. Then they threw out the EU and made up a bunch of new stuff. The real reason Mace Windu has a purple crystal is because Samuel Jackson had it written into his contract because he wanted his character to stand out. Many of the Jedi that carried yellow lightsabers had them passed down from their masters. Of course, most of this is no longer cannon.
LoneRecruit 221 Too bad the 1st Kotor game didn't have Orange.
The second Kotor game had an Orange crystal on Korriban.
My main Jedi in my Star Wars novel has an Orange Lightsaber.
And he's a Jedi Sentinel.
LoneRecruit 221 I duplicated an Orange crystal because it's the only one of it's kind in the game.
yellow lightsabers... the bulbasaur of the jedi order
Jedi-mon
ironic, bulbasaur is the best of the three, and the yellow wielders were among the most numerous to survive order 66
Brady Well Sentinels are all around while the Guardians and Consulars are Temple life.
Chose sentinel in KOTOR II, chose Bulbasaur. Proof this statement is 100% legit.
@@zecekobold2140 Meetra Surik is a Jedi Guardian.
Revan is a Jedi Consular.
The Sentinals were the real Je'dai and the future of the Jedi Order.
That doesn't fucking exist
The Je'dai was the original name of the Jedi. Don't know if that is cannon again.
George Sosinsky The Grey Jedi is fanfiction.
They don't even have a official code they have many codes and I'm not sure which one is best to describe that.
I wrote a 1,000 paged novel about a grey Jedi.
@@khaos5085 the gray Jedi code is based on ballance, granted there are variations of the exact wording of the code, the base point is "I am a guardian of ballance". In one of the books, considered legends now but no less a star wars book, it's stated that Qui-Gon Jin is believed to be a gray Jedi by the council, and is refused a seat on the council. The comment Anikin makes in ep. 2 about him being on the council if not for him conflicting with them supports this idea. If author's books, written with Lucas arts permission, is fan fiction I guess you're right.
Chelsea Priddy Count Dooku was sort of right in Attack of the clones.
Qui Gon would have joined Count Dooku.
Qui Gon is the main villain in the saga so is Padme.
I think canon wise, Cal Kestis would have been attuned to a yellow crystal at Ilum, seeing as he is fighting for survival, staying hidden from the Empire, is familiar with tech as a scrapper, and rebuilding the Jedi Order. To me at least, it perfectly fits his personality and that's why I chose yellow during my first playthrough.
Why were there so few Yellow sabers?
Why did jedi not use double bladed lightsabers?
Me, an intellectual: Bastilla!!!
MarkDNF And almost every other Jedi Sentinel.
Double bladed lightsabers were tricky to master and less effective in battle unless mastered, and even then you run a risk. The double bladed saber opens a lot of opportunity, but also creates openings in it's own way. That's why most Jedi and Sith would rather dual wield rather than use a double bladed saber. While duel wielding they can move more fluently than with a double saber. Plus the history of double blade saber users is bleak and almost nonexistent when it comes to being noteworthy.
Oh, and Bastilla is bae. The OG Ride or Die.
MarkDNF George Lucas only wanted Blue and Green and red in the films.
Mace Windu asked for Purple because he wants to look apart in that Jedi battle in episode 2.
Bastilla had blue blades (by default) though...same with fellow sentinel and her descendant Satele Shan.
If the Sentinels were so adept at hiding, and the Watchmen acted in the interests of local populations, then how did they fare after Order 66?
Rav Aharon ben Yisrael It's just a guess, but I would think they would cut themselves off from the Force and live out life as a normal citizen.
they probably fit in better than other jedi since they could always officially delete their jedi id and than use their life skills to blend in as a civilian
Sentinel: *Gets out of ship after long mission to see Jedi temple being raided by clone troopers*
Sentinel: "..."
Sentinel: *Gets back in ship and flies away*
Sidouse once said that out of all the Jedi who survived Order 66 Sentinels made up most of the remaining Jedi
1 of them became an Inquisitor
Perhaps you can do a story about this: what did the Jedi Order to with a Jedi's Lightsaber after they died. Was there a room in temple filled with dead Jedi's sabers?
Either that or the sabers get passed on to their padawans. Padawans love to take their dead master's lightsabers (when, you know, the masters died from some random Sith encounter or something)
They sell it on Holo-Bay to a certain grievouscollector84

I love the game Jedi academy because it gives options for different color blades. I like orange!
Stephen Jones Me too. KOTOR 2 gives you everything from the basics(green, blue, yellow) to colors like bronze, cyan and silver.
Oh the game from The original Xbox I have a red blade
force unleashed gives you tons of colors too
KOTOR 2 was the best, i had 2 sabers, Veridian and Silver in some playthroughs and Veridian and green on others....my few evil runs I went red and orange lolz
Always gotta go purple.
Yellow and green should be the other way around because mixing blue and yellow makes green =D
Damn it youve devided by zero. Good thought though
@elviade good job explaining tge RGB pixel color system. Seriously good work, would have taken me much longer to write an even longer explanation.
So they're like Jedi spies.
Those are the Jedi Shadows.
I'd say that they are more like trade specialists in a general sense BUT in times of war, sentinels and more so watchmen, acted as detectives and secret agents. They could use their skills at stealth, infiltration, intelligence and so on to gather info on enemy positions, obtain sensitive enemy data so on and so forth. While Shadows and Watchmen are different classes overall, a lot of their skills and abilities can overlap.
so they would be not so much grey jedi but grey in the force being able to conceal themselves both in the force but in public, the only way to conceal in the force is to disconnect
More like Jedi equivalent of an inquisitor
More like bards or jack of all trades.
I always though Quinlan Vos and his tracking skills made him a perfect example of a sentinel, but SWTCW gave him a green one.
That's because Lucas's "advisory" (or rather, heavily insistent) input pretty much made it so only Temple Guards have yellow lightsabers in Disney Canon Disney wanted to give Asohka Yellow lightsabers and Lucas wanted it to only be temple guards that had yellow. You can see which side of the argument won, with Asohka's yellow tint on her green blades being effectively a "compromise".
Yeah exactly
It's OK Asajj and Quinlan need their own live action or anime for Dark Disciple. Obi Wan, Quinlan and Asajjj ended up truly grasping the plan until THAT day through Force Wielders into loops. Dooku already knew he was being played and more just staying alive
But Asajj ends up exemplified by both random obtained yellow sabers that fit BY nature of the flow of the force to where in HER growth she is. We need more color focus for Jedi. Just a fan thing. But YA. Noone should be pigeonholed. The light of their sabre should reflect more
I took a quiz recently on what color lightsaber I should have if I were a Jedi and I kept getting yellow after MANY retries so let's see what mah man has to say
Very interesting JMess! I really need to take a quiz like that and see what color comes up for me...although I worry it might be red despite being limited to Jedi only. :) Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment as always buddy!
Star Wars Reading Club no problem my pleasure 😊
Star Wars Reading Club I keep getting red and blue but mostly purple
oof link on Facebook idk remember where
In every lightsaber quiz I've taken that includes yellow for a possible result, that is the answer I receive. Sentinel ethos fits my personal ethos far better than either Consulars or Guardians.
I am a protector by nature. Physical combat skills are necessary in order to effectively protect/defend one's self and others within the temporal world. Yet overall, I value applied knowledge acquisition above all else the way Sentinels do. Gaining real-world skills allows one to blend in directly with local populations. As such, Sentinels could become invaluable informants because they could conceivably form lasting bonds of trust with non-Force sensitive populations in ways that Consulars or Guardians could not. Sentinels could melt into the background in ways of which Guardians could only dream. Combat/coercion was only used as an absolute last resort and not the first/oversimplified resort. I envision Sentinels as essentially the Huffleclaws of Star Wars, haha. While they possess great knowledge and power, they don't care to wave it about as if on a banner. They seem content to share, learn, and grow from other species throughout the galaxy whether Force-sensitive or not. Thus becoming far more inclusive and amenable to considering and even adopting multiple contrasting points of view, schools of thought, method, and means through a decidedly light-side (optimist) lens that is tempered with healthy doses of pragmatism. Their way of maintaining balance was through diplomacy and knowledge in ways that most Consulars and Guardians were incapable of maintaining for very long. Aaaaand that is basically my headcanon combined with what's explained in the video....an explanation which turned out to longer than I had intended, lol.
I want more yellow lightsaber action in the new movies
Yesss me too
Yes, hopefully Rey falls to the Dark Side and rules the Galaxy together with Kylo but then, alongside her New Jedi Order (most of which use yellow lightsabers for she teaches a more balanced view) as well as Luke (who contrary to popular belief did not die), Ahsoka appears and kills both of them and thus saving both the Galaxy as well as the franchise from the claws of the unappealing characters.
For what reason?? They're not even good fighters compared to the others.. I mean color wise black or white should be brought in especially for the grey Jedi.. immensely better than the sentinels
Rey has one now

The Sentinel School Of Though is definitely the most interesting, to me.
Another awesome video 😁 i wish we got to see sentinels in action (apart from guards).
I hope your doing well SWRC and I hope you are having a awesome day 😀
I like the way you speak slowly and clearly, it helps me to understand as english is not my first langage ! I'll watch the other videos, thanks !
The original luke toy I had back in the seventies had a YELLOW LIGHSABER. That is fact.
That's awesome!
It was probably just a really faded or badly tinted attempt at green.
Same here. I remember playing with it while watching the Sinbad genie movie Shazaam! Best memories.
@@thememester1190 no the first posters for The Return of the Jedi had Luke with a yellow lightsaber.
@elviade Google it, the very first posters had a yellow blade
Let's hope the canon manages to re-introduce some more lightsaber colors
Watching this video makes me want to play Jedi Fallen Order again and choose Yellow for my lightsaber colour! I really think Yellow suits Cal the most, he’s a lot like a Jedi Sentinel.
By far my favorite lightsaber color and I like their school of thought also. Being secretive but still help others and only fight when absolutely needed. I feel that.
And yet, the Sentinels did better than either Consular or Guardian at disappearing after Order 66 was implemented.
And Anakin would have been much better Sentinel than a Guardian.
Daniel Haire Not really.
Anakin was mostly into combat.
Anakin hated Sentinels in episode 2.
He got into a debate about it at Padme's home.
Was this in a comic or novel? I didn’t notice this debate in episode II or in the deleted scenes. I’d really like to know more about this.
Yellow crystals are only for pre-paid orders, excluding 66 or course.
Outstanding work, thanks for the uploads mate :)
this was the best explanation for yellow lightsabers ive ever seen thank you !
When you’re trying to reach the word count
It’s because Jedi aren’t creative and mostly used green, and green isn’t a creative color.
Careful friend- yellow lightsabers make your teeth go grey.
:(
Only real ones understand this
I get it lol
Excellent video as always!
Hey man these vids are awesome! I've been really addicted to them lately. The only thing I think that could be improved would be to add music!
Sounds like sentinels would be most in tune with the common people adopting a variety of skills and trades, I thought they where just Jedi MP's seeing how they where portrayed in clone wars.
Bastila Shan was one of the greatest sentinels who ever lived!
True but I like temple guards the most
Awesome video as always!
This is a very interesting topic.
And after hearing about the different schools of thought, I have to ask, what school of thought would you be in?
I think I would probably go the Jedi watchman route, and be a sentinel because I think the Jedi's mission was to keep the galaxy safe, and the best way to do that was to use every tool at their disposal to do it.
Can't wait to see what you do next!
Thanks SWRC!!! :D
Good vid SWReading Club!.. I never really knew the history of Yellow lightsabers too tough... That was some good history you dropped!.. quick question: would Jedi Master Farfalla Valentyne from the Bane books be considered apart of the sentinel order because of his golden or yellow saber?.. good vid tho homie!..

So basically the sentinels were the detectives of the jedi order they would choose combat as the very last option but still being just as skilled as the guardians and counselors in combat
Who is hear because of Rey?
She the strongest character because she made the sequel trilogy shit all by her self
Thats pretty cool, dude. keep up the great work
great video keep up the good work!
I took this pretty good & thorough personality test & got Orange as my Lightsaber Color.
Could you do a Video on that & their probability of them during the Clone Wars?
Nick Vinsable orange in old canon was just the alternative of yellow for sentinels, however, in jedi outcast jedi trainers used orange
Well, TheSilverShadow, I’m pretty fond of how one’s Lightsaber Color can be a Reflection their Soul. So until there is an Update of Lightsaber Colors’ are also Soul Colors (Personalities), I’m sticking to Legends for now.
Otherwise, making Orange being synonymous to being a Candle Flame in a Library & an Angry Flame on a Battlefield would be interesting.
I got orange on my test as well Nick Vinsable
It's so fitting. I would have definitely been a sentinel. Where's my yellow lightsaber?!?!
Thanks for answering that question most of us always wondered about , the yellow lightsabers!
This was always my favorite Jedi school of thought. Also my favorite color saber.
U must dig deep in the darkside to fully master the light and when u dive so deep on both sides u become unstoppable bam tht jus happened
I left a like for Jedi Artisans.
Don't leave out the Jedi Chefs
This was a really awesome story, thank you!
My favorite type. Living amongst the people helping and probably training the natives in a passive way, yet still with an overall Jedi imperative.
Would probably use blasters and other tech. Unless there was no other option, then that yellow lightsaber would ignite and you’d be SOL.
They’d probably have to remove any witnesses though. Sick nasty.
George said that there are green, blue, red ligthsabers later added purple
Obi-Wan Kenobi come on baby!.. .. there are a few colors of sabers, in legends & the new canon.. you also got gold/yellow, pink or hot pink, clear white (like what people say the so-called gray Jedi use).. & not just Windu's saber, I've seen straight purple double bladed sabers too.. I think as we go into the future of Star Wars, we'll prob see new colors for lightsabers... Dig?..

Why did some Dark Jedi use non-red blades?
They ran out of red crystals
Zack Briggs the Sith Lord Exar Kun used a blue lightsaber
Star Wars Reading Club :
This could be a good topic for future video, what color lightsabers did dark Jedi use and what those colors ment?
I dunno, just a suggestion. MTFBWY!
Zack Briggs, some dark jedi that started out on the light side just kept the lightsabers they already had. Others would change if given the chance, others would lose their jedi blades and need to replace them. Sith lord Darth Vader used his old blue lightsaber until losing it in his duel with Obi-wan on Mustafar. From the 2003 Clone Wars series, Dark Jedi Ventress used her own light saber along with her dead master's blade until they were destroyed by Dooku and replaced with the twin red lightsabers from his other fallen apprentice Komori. And in legends is the Sith Lord Exar Kun, who kept his blue light saber blade from his time as a Jedi, though he would redesign it while keeping the same color blade.
EarlnEarl That's a great response to my question. Thanks and MTFBWY!
I swear, SWRC is probably my favorite StarWars channel. He leaves ZERO questions unanswered

So happy that i saw in Episode 9!
why did Quinlan Vos never use a yellow lightsaber?
Food for thought. If the sentinels were so good at concealing themselves, wouldn't they have survived order 66 do to the army not knowing that they were Jedi and thus going into hiding like obiwan and yoda? Therefore wouldn't there be more Jedi out there during the rebellion that no one knows about? Whom would have taken apprentice to continue the teachings of their school in secret much the same as the sith prior to the rise of the emperor? Thus making them the prominent school for Jedi over guardians and consulars.
Darth Revan They did.
They were that good to the point even the viewers can’t see them
I believe Sidious once stated that most of the Jedis that survived Order 66 where Sentinels. (but I couldn't tell you where that is in Legends to save my life so... But it makes sense)
Darth Revan A lot of Jedi survived order 66 mostly Sentinels.
The number of sentinels during the clone wars was most likely more than we could comprehend. Most sentinels served as agents and intelligence officers for the Jedi order
This is cool. Just recently played Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic otherwise known as KOTOR 1. When you become a jedi in that game, you have to take a test. I got the yellow one on each try when I wanted to be a sentinel. So I remember the information given in the game was spot on the information you gave in this video.
So sentinels are the most gounded jedai?
So then shouldnt there have been more Jedi Sentinels alive when Order66 went through??
Strange. One would think in times of war, the practical intelligence gathering spies that are Sentinels would proliferate rather than shrink, at least much more than consulars.
Yellow light sabers are what happens when young padawans are left alone with the master's weapon while he is sleeping off a bender:

Is the three Jedi schools of thought and their associated favorite blade color still cannon as those were introduced in the old republic? Which currently resides in the Legends universe other than brief appearance or mentions like the planet Korriban now called Morriban and the appearance of Darth Bane is the Sith tomb in the last season of the clone wars
This narrator is like the offspring of George Takei and a badly broken droid.

Yellow lightsabers are so unique and obscure. I would love to see more of them.
Nice exposé. I love the sentinel school
The Rise Of Skywalker spoilers :
Rey got this at the end..
I wish there had been more yellow or purple or orange or other shades of blue and green in the prequel-era stuff... it would’ve been cool if Rey or Kylo Ren also slightly different colors (obviously Rey has the blue Skywalker lightsaber, but if she had a different lightsaber somehow, another color would’ve been neat).
Hi SWRC how are you? That was another great video of fun facts, Palpatine even admits in The Jedi Path that it was likely many of the Jedi who survived the Jedi Purge were members of the Sentinel class. An online quiz revealed my lightsaber to have an orange blade and another that I would specialise as a Jedi Shadow. What lightsaber colour would you have and what specialisation would you focus on if you were a Jedi? Also, could you cover the various specialisations of the three main paths a Jedi may follow? May the Force be with you
