- I went down to Goodwood on setup day in my Porsche 930S to check out the historic 911 race cars the Porsche Museum brought over for this year's Goodwood Members meeting. Here's a behind the scenes look at these iconic race cars.

Many live vicariously through their children, but I prefer Harry.
I prefer Harry too 😂👌
😎
With his revamped Lancia he’s like an 11 year old again!
One reason I didn’t bother having kids… Freedom and cars. Turbo S about to be swapped for GT3
Harry is a legend
When you think it can't get better. Thank you Harry, you are a lucky man.
The rear track of that RSR is insane, looks like it’s hauling a plough when you look at it from the front
I couldn't stop looking at that too. The wheel-arches are just cosmetic covers over externally mounted wheels!
Harry Metcalfe, living the dream.
Thanks for allowing us in to share the journey. Respect fella, enjoy.
Came here to say pretty much the same. What a blessed life!
You can keep your Ferraris and Mclarens etc but my dream car has always been the original 911 turbo or 930 as its often called i drove one to Cardiff from Sheffield in 1990 i cried my eyes out when i got in it because myself and my twin had a picture of a few 911,s on our bedroom wall and he'd passed away following a crash in his 205 GTi i realised then that i couldnt tell him about the adventure. Thanks for the uploads and sharing your passion Harry.
I love it when you have a geeky episode Harry, and the light you had for the photo shoot..... sublime.
Nothing better than an old turbo Porsche
Those rear wheel arches on that RSR 911 are beyond radical - those crazy guys at Porsche really like to go hard. I think its first iteration was in the Can-Am Challenge Cup with a 5-litre flat 12 engine developing 850 HP, then a 5.4-litre engine developing 1500 HP.
I wonder what size the tyres are, and if any of the width is inside the original body line?
Can't wait for that trip to Germany! It's always fun to know more about this special car.
"I'm now going to bore the family forevermore because I've driven an RSR" 👍 Excellent stuff, Harry. The enormous rear wheels and huge turbo on the RSR are so impressive. Thanks for sharing your experience and the Goodwood 80MM clips. Very much looking forward to future videos about the history of your Sonderwunsch 930. 👍
Looking forward to the Porsche returning to its origins to check on its unusual history. These types of road trips I find the most interesting.
I am absolutely thrilled for you Harry. That was one incredible experience.
Great video, big thanks Harry! Great to see that you keep looking up things in historic books. We should do that more often. Paul Frere was the man i always read in our Belgian car magazine, De Autogids. A part of my childhood. He was such a passionate gentleman. He really gave me the Porsche bacteria. What a person he was. You made my day by mentioning his name and his book. Thx!
'Porche bacteria'. Excellent!
Idem.. I grew up in Flanders and also used to read Paul Frere’s articles in De Autogids. He had an incredible career and witnessed the greats in the early days of F1. The level of detail in his articles was remarkable . Echt wel de moeite om te lezen!
@@scottcowan6798I fully agree with you, the amount of detail in 'Porsche 911 Story' is extraordinary
The only channel worth persevering throught the additional CZcams ads!
I was at the 24 Hrs in 1974 as an 16 yo young man, and have loved sportscars ever since. I have a Nissan 370z now and while it is not yet aa nice as the 600 hp Porsche, I'm afraid it will come as close as I will ever get to owning one. Thank you for the video.
That '43' has to be the ultimate iteration of the 935. The arches, wheels and spoilers, even the Martini stripes are just perfection. 😍🤌
Oh dear, now I can't wait for the video to come out. I love these stories behind the cars and the development of them and so on it makes it so much more appealing to have a great story behind the car.
I can smell that book. I love old books and the level of detail and knowledge you tend to find in them. :)
My grandparents always had a poster of the RSR in their basement... and I fell in love with it when I didnt even know what it was! It was just so pure and different.
I’m 27 now and watched your channel for some time now, and everytime i think to myself; i hope i get as cool and lucky in life as Harry.
As an aside, the red #5 935 in the video is near and dear to me. Last century, early eighties, this car was THE ticket in IMSA racing. The owner/driver Bob Akin a consummate gentleman, spent an inordinate amount of time explaining to my son about the car and let him sit in the drivers seat and go BAROOOOM! I hold grudges, I am still very jealous! Cheers.
Harry has turned me into a Porsche fan. Most unexpected. But in hindsight, inevitable. Porches are wonderful, unique, engineering gems.
Harry continues to cement the title of biggest CZcams Baller. My god you drove the 2.1!
I remember all those cars from Need for Speed : Porsche Challenge. A damn fine racing sim that still stacks up today!
Thank you for the Amazing Pictures and the Story of the Beast.
Incredible Harry, loved hearing about this 👌
Wow! The sound of those turbo flat 6s at the end of the video, Harry...it takes me back to when I was sixteen in 1977 and I rode my bicycle in the rain from Dartford over to Brands Hatch to watch the World Championship of Makes Round. Jackie Ickx won in the Martini 935, with Manfred Shurti racing the Jagermeister sponsored orange example, in second place. I even took my Philips cassette recorder with the microphone to record those very engine sounds! The normally aspirated 3.0 RSRs absolutely wailed echoing off the trees out on the Grand Prix circuit!... thanks for re-kindling those memories, Harry!
Wonderful to notice your genuine excitement Harry! A great Porsche day and I think your Porsche is very special. Looking forward to your trip to investigate the cars history.
You mentioned Nick Mayman in your recent Porsche video. I knew him in the early 80's, he was living in Llanbedr in North Wales. I rented garage space at his house for my Porsche 356. He was no longer practicing as an architect but restoring cars. You may not know but he was the person that rescued Jim Clark's 356 UUL442 from a local scrapyard. He was still restoring it when he sadly died from a brain tumour. He was an extraordinary and very eccentric character. Still missed by all his mates in the car world. Great videos, best regards David Edelstein.
Another tremendously exciting episode!!!
I thought the super wide-bodied RWB cars of Mr. Nakai were pushing the limits beyond what others had done with Porsches, then I saw that 70s era 2.1 RSR. Very cool to learn about
Thanks Harry. Now I can say, I saw this. It's beautiful and more.
Thank you so much Harry for sharing these little bits of your adventures, makes for really entertaining content!
When I was younger I used to look at Porsche's and think "boring, they all look the same" and I'd look at Lambo's and Ferrari's etc as superior. But now I'm a little more mature and these kind of cars are vaguely in my wheelhouse (a normal Porsche that is!), and you drive them...then you appreciate the engineering, the precision and kind of what the words "sports car" mean. I've seen these legendary cars up close and it's brilliant to hear Harry describe driving one, must be a dream come true.
A 911 is definitely next of my list of cars to own I think. Whether that's a classic or otherwise I'm not sure. But another great video thanks Harry. It truly shows the lengths Porsche go to to make a car perform to such a standard imo
Of course it was worth sharing...thank's Harry. Really do appreciate your content.
Harry I have to say you are a brilliantly interesting speaker every story or review really draws you in.
As a gentleman in his 50s i recall staring at what car, car specs and seeing that a 911 could do a 0-60m in 5.5 seconds - I was in awe
Good lord.....another Oscar type content video from Henry... lacking adjectives here....well done dear Henry! Well done....!
One of my favorite hazza cars the Porsche 😊😊
Lucky man Harry. When opportunities like that are offered you need to grasp & cherish them. What a car, what a story!
HARRY! What Beautiful shots that day! Spectacular!
WOW! That 930 has made you some great memories already, never ever sell her.
Great video Harry.
I love how many of Harry's videos end with lovely engine sounds. He knows what we like.
I've never been a particular 911 fan, but always loved the sound of that flat-six. Glad you added the footage at the end because they sound wonderful.
The look on your face and the sound of your voice as they lit up talking about such a special day Harry, was a treat.
Those rear arches are something else!
I checked that book out of the library many times! I also kept for many years the Road and Track issue with the road test of the Porsche Turbo Carrera, which had the most astounding 0-60mph time of 5.0 seconds. I lusted after that car for so long and built models of the Turbo and the 935...
Wonderful! Thanks for sharing. The outro footage was a real treat too.
Particularly enjoyed this for your honesty and not recollection with advantages.. What a car. Has anything of this ilk surpassed it? No
You got Lucky!! I'm smiling more than you are. Glad Porche people nice to you!
What a fabulous experience. Thanks for sharing this history and the experience.
Oh boy, that has made my day.
Looking forward to the 930 road trip to Germany to visit Ruf!!!

Thanks for sharing a very interesting historic story ! Harry
Paul Frère is famous in Belgium for his unwavering passion for motor sports & Porsches .
Great video, remember seeing Moby Dick at Silverstone in the six hours race, be 1978.
Can’t wait for more on these cars, as well as your own.
Thank you Harry

Wow thank you Harry wow! What an amazing experience. Looks incredible lucky man!🇦🇺
One of my absolute favourites in Harry’s Garage
What a superb experience you had. Wow those rear tyres.
Just Fab! Congrats and thanks -
Indeed Harry, I did enjoy this video, about cars I could only dream about in my youth. So very happy for you, having the opportunity you got. Even still, your own Porsche is nothing to sneeze at 🙂
What a great experience. The instrument panel layout and age of it reminds me of what you might see in a WW2 fighter plane. The chills.
Great video and story, plus your Turbo looks to be a fantastic car, the wheels really set it off.
I like the relationship that car makers have with harry,
the common man notices
Proof that good things happen to good people
Wow! What an amazing car.
Another fantastic video - thank you. Surely one of the best channels on YT.
