- Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #335
Exploring the bizarrely stately ruins of an old ghost town in northeastern Nevada. The last class graduated from Metropolis High School in 1945, but the school still stands...and is fascinating to explore!

The steel cable in the concrete is to add strength to it . They place the cable on metal supports , pour the concrete over it , then pull it tight with a hydraulic machine made to do that . That same method is used today in building muti-level garages . Love you post .
My mother grew up in Lovelock and knew about Metropolis. There are so many towns like Metropolis all over Nevada. Great video!! Thanks for sharing.
Yeap , Palisades , Goldpoint, Olinghouse, and lot more. But don't take any thing because you might end up in Jail. Some places are open, and Bar is open with cold beer in refrigerator. Get one put your money in box. There squatters live there. I knew an old miner who made friends with neighbor lady and next thing they got married.
Info concerning the "Bishop Creek Dam". The dam was built in 1922. The Lovelock lawsuit wasn't about the dam, but (naturally) the water. As a result, the water going to Metropolis was limited, far less than what the town needed. The dam was not removed but remained in use. The dam wasn't deactivated until 1984, when the gates were removed, allowing the Bishop Creek to flow freely through it. The dam remains to this day, 7.5 miles east of Metropolis, at GPS 41.2553 -114.9162. Looks rather impressive on Google Earth. There are no roads to the dam and it is located on private property, according to one website I read.
Wonderhussy the only one I know who gets excited about an old boot haha. I was wondering why they didn't approve their water request, but thinking about it there probably wasn't enough water to go around. They tried wheat farming because of the low water requirements, and were successful for the first few years but then it got dryer. The problem they had with Jackrabbits was because they killed all the coyotes so the rabbit population exploded.
In the Arid West there’s never enough water for everything.. whisky’s for drinking, water is for fighting over
This is your BEST video, yet !
Your adventure videos are the BEST in CZcams !
I love your folksy banter !
I was just here 3 days ago. December weather gave a Beautiful backdrop to my first time visit. I have Beautiful pictures of the mountain dusted with a bit of snow and the clouds with a gorgeous sunset. I missed the visitor log and the cemetery though. So sad. Roads were great to get to it. Could have spent some more time there just taking the beauty in at a place in literally No Where! But this is how I discovered your YT channel trying to find out who has been there. Thanks for the fun vid. I nodded a few times with your comments. ♥️
Love that shot of your trusty steed framed in the high school archway
When Superman moved out Metropolis went downhill fast...
Born and raised in the once great state of CA , I now live in TN. But these adventures make me miss the open deserts and the history left behind to ponder !
It would be very interesting to find someone who lived there and talk with them about the town. It is amazing how fast we disappear after abandonment. Thanks for this gem WH!!
Sara, thank you for all you do for your subscribers. I love your channel and look forward to all the videos that you post.
Holes are in the brick so mortar will create a stronger bond when it's pressed down. Then when a wall is torn down, mostly likely the brick will become unusable. Another reason for holes today.
your right its a really cool place to explore. thank you for taking us along.
Nevada sure has its share of broken dreams. CZcams has revealed abandoned mansions, castles, cracker boxes, towns, cities, ships, malls, casinos, etc., it blows my mind!
Looks like it was bombed or blown up, that sort of construction dose’t just fall down, Interesting!
The aerial drone shots at this ghost town on googie earth are amazing! The first settlers here killed all the coyotes and the
jackrabbit population increased so much that farming here went to hell. A relentless drought ended all hopes after than as nothing grew there afterwards. Superman couldn't save this metropolis. Great cemetery to visit there. Could be going to
twelvemile spring next?
What a cool video :-) I really like your field trips through the desert especially to the ghost towns and hot springs.
11:52 the "central tower" was the vaults for the hotel, the upper one was on main floor of hotel, the lower was in the basement. If you had looked carefully those alcoves in the basement still had block glass and cement ceiling, which was the sidewalk around the building.
Oh wow. That’s so interesting to know. Thanks for sharing that info 🙂
we tore those glass blocks out of remodels back in the 80 's . salvaged some , most went in the dumpster !
There was a 6.0 earthquake near there in 2008 - six miles northeast of Wells. That might have caused some of the damages.
I don't know. Where are the walls of the school, or the rubble of them falling down? I don't see any significant debris lying there anywhere. It's as if it was torn down and carried off, maybe to reuse the bricks again? Seems strange.
I really enjoy watching all your videos and seeing your adventures thanks so much for sharing with us
At 7:33 " a little bit of tile that's pretty fancy for 1910" ---- The had tile like that 2,000 years ago in the Roman Empire.
Las Vegas was originally a Mormon town, as were many other towns out west.
This was an awesome video!
Love your videos, Wonderhussy.
Thanks for sharing I really enjoyed that one...👍
Had to be tough back in those days. Gorgeous Nevadan open spaces 💜
You are the rare person I enjoy listening to. Thanks.
riverbender She is a natural narrator. No notes, no queue cards. She never fails to be interesting. Like others have noted, she can pick up an old beer can, talk about it for five minutes and have everyone hanging onto every word. I love seeing where she goes and listening to her.
Cool videos really enjoy watching great job🙂
If it wasn’t for your videos I’d never get out and escape my yard! Very cool place WH! ❤️❤️❤️
Another fascinating visit. I’m putting this on my list to visit. :-)
im heading to winnemucca to fat bike the sand dunes then heading here to check it out, thaks for the video, and all your videos. I wonder how funny it would be to be camping and look up from my campfire and see WonderHussy driving by !!
Very cool area you found.
Nice find and video!
I was going to drive all the way out there. Now I don't have to lol. Love your videos
Another great video, I enjoy your work. I guess Nevada is a destination for me next summer.
love your videos!
On the bricks: Those are construction bricks or support wall bricks, rather than decorative bricks. They're still made that way today, and the holes are used one of two ways; In light load bearing walls it allows the mortar to run through the brick, locking them into place as it hardens. In heavy duty load bearing walls, mortar and rebar are fed through the bricks to reinforce the walls. While not as common today as they were 80 years ago, being usurped by concrete cinder blocks, they're still made and used today for various projects.
I love this video! On my list to go check out! Thanks.
Never open an old fridge you find in desert
Rover Ron because the milk might be rotten ?
What a coincidence. I just drove thru Lovelock yesterday heading from Boise to Bishop. Lovelock was no mans land. I can imagine how bad Metropolis was.
Love your channel. stay hydrated folks..
This series on northern NV has been interesting
Thanks
I cant wait to find this place. Is it close to lovelock or closer to winnemucca?
What a pleasure to see you on a sunday Sarah.nice find out in the dessert stay safe in your adventures dear!
I wonderHussey thanks for touching our souls with your stories and videography is very good. thank you for touching my soul it feels good!
Awesome explore. Thanks
That was an incredible place! Wow could not even imagine.
Great video thank you
Wow! Way cool. Amazing that the concrete is crumbling to dust after less than 100 years. Thanks WH!
.....Like your smile..... Love your style.....Glad that you could chat a while.....!!
that NY investment deal reminds me of the same set up that financed the bonanza farms in the Dakotas
I wonder if it was a scam-surely nobody with a brain could see farming wheat in a desert. Sounds like the company was set up to defraud its investors.
Very Cool video my friend
Just awesome!
Hi, Hon!! Thanks for taking us on this cool adventure. Always love your videos. Does mace work with snakes? I don't know. If it does, carry some, if you don't already have it. What am I talking about? You may be packing a 357!! ;-)
Very cool! 😎
Good video👍
Loved it.
I've never been much of a History buff, but you sure do find some interesting old places and your narration is always very informative. Thanks for sharing.
I LOVE THIS. I DON'T WANT TO SOUND LIKE A GROUPY. At the oil co. Ashely used to call me "All Caps Greg" I like that. Such a shining light for me stuck in Houston, Texas. Keep it UP.....I WILL, lol
Would there be classrooms below ground level? I suppose that is possible since there are window openings. Kind of like split level homes. The other possibility would be the structure is sinking. (Or Sank). That would explain why the rest of the building is gone. Earthquake? It may already be in the comments but I get overwhelmed reading them all. Please forgive me if I am guessing wrong. :-) Thanks again for taking us with you! Nice rig and you are true photography/videography/host Master.
Cool and thanks
Great video! It was fun going along with you on this journey via your video. Please stay safe exploring ruins like these - ceiling looks like it is ready to come down soon. Looking forward to your next adventure. Best wishes for a great journey!🌅🧧🌺
Had a quick look on google images and there are pics of the school and the hotel from back when they were complete. x
Maybe the metal grates are for cleaning, liking hosing down the floors with water
Cool!
Great job! Always interesting. You are quickly closing in on 100k...you deserve it...well done!
Thanks for sharing life with enthusiasm awesome video and history of the United States and loving it is so cool
Wonder if the tower structure would have been part of the fire escape system. Not sure what the fire codes were back in those days. I have seen buildings from that time period that had the fire escapes, they resembled large slides. Once you got on you rode them down to the ground level.
Great place! Thanks for showing us. The archway looks like a Grecian ruin. No way it could have supported wheat growing! It is like an earthquake happened there.
It was awesome 👍👍👍😊😊😊
Great video Sarah. Looks like another large scale homestead that collapsed thru time. A lot of that happens in the great state of Nevada even today. Look forward to your next video.🇺🇸
YES, that's how they made bricks back then. Also the twisted steel bars are rebar. That's how it was deformed so concrete would adhere to it.....
Great stuff WH, looks like you're taking the long way around to get to Donner Pass..........and that means more video's !
If you like ghost towns check out Burke Idaho. My dad lived there when he was a kid. Used to be a big mining town.
After watching the Dylan Rounds case and the town of Montello and Lucin , be careful out there.
Sweet adventure man if that concrete or surrounding area could talk the history on what happened so cool awesome thank u be safe
Amazing ghost town.
Thanks
I love out of the middle of no where! Happy Sunday Hussy. Always such great energy. I love it! Always stay safe Huss!💚
For some reason this place reminds me of St. Thomas which you showed in your previous videos and I made a video and tour also of St. Thomas as well........I almost forgot to include for saying thank you for pronouncing the name of that German Lady's name on her grave site properly and where she was from, I lived in Germany for eight years and I am still somewhat fluent in Deutsch.
Gosh Darn Rabbits and Crickets. Drinkin up all the water. LOL. ;-)
Hello wonderhussy. Your friend Ted here. Cool video of a nice old ghost Town. That's a town worth seeing. Look forward to your next video. I am Glad you were wearing boots.. Stay safe out there in the desert my friend

I'm not an expert, in fact, I've been wrong three times in my 66 years. (1st wife, 2nd wife, & 3rd wife) but I think chalk boards were black until 1970 ish.
I thought I was wrong once, but I was in error. LOL
@@rickkinki4624 I too, thought I was wrong once, but I was mistaken. lol
I honestly don't think there is any other youtube channel quite like yours. I really love what you do.
You might want to check out the Vegas grasshopper invasion.. not exactly Mormon Crickets but it made the news so maybe worth following up.
Nice vid wh
If anyone is interested here are some small photos of the school while intact and the street layout of the town:

Vinegar, baking soda, and the fear of being eaten is their downfall.
Morman crickets.
Your adventures are always so much fun, Sarah Jane! Great Video! Be careful out there ,we don't want anything bad to happen to our Wonderhussy!!!
Typhoid outbreak most likely due to location of drinking water to the waste disposal.
Good exploration Sarah always enjoy your desert Wanderings.
The bass on the intro sounds great , even on my shitty makeshift headphones
beautiful piece of music
Maria says thank you.
be careful girl ! don't want anything to hurt the hussy because you're wonderful
Whenever I see an old abandoned town or house, I always wonder, what did it look like when the very last person left.
