- Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #342
In all my years of camping, I've never actually camped overnight in the middle of a real ghost town -- but on my Central Nevada expedition, my friend Larry and I did just that! After a delicious steak dinner around the campfire, we woke the next morning to find we were in an abandoned mining encampment full of interesting old cars and a very spooky-looking two-story stone house! Who lived at this lonely, super-remote little homestead? Join me to find out!

Did some research on Roy Ames and came across something, thanks to Starbuck's Exploring, about fluorspar claims Roy located in the hills above his camp in 1941. So, evidently it wasn't the views that brought him there but rather the fluorite which has physical properties that allow it to be used for a wide variety of chemical, metallurgical and ceramic processes. But it doesn’t appear that he produced much if any fluorite. It's also believed that some of the buildings were already there but he probably improved them. Roy passed away in 1966 and is buried in Tonopah. Remains of a '36 Oldsmobile are on the site. The flatbed truck was converted from a car. There's a 1950 Ford Sedan that was once beige. Fluorite can be a beautiful gemstone when faceted. I recall using these stones back when I was making jewelry. They make lovely cabochons, the colors in banded fluorite cabochons is beautiful. I think maybe Roy had an eye for beautiful things. ;-)
Thank you MTBVideo
Hey Wonder Hussy,
I'm going to say it again, you are THE EMPERESS OF THE REALM OF THE MIDDLE OF NO WHERE. You seem to have a great time on excursions. It seems that Larry's an excellent friend to go "NO WHERE" with. Lookin' forward to your next video.
Thanks for the fun.
Car... '49 Ford Coupe (1st one). Was our family car up to 1960.
First 50 FORD....SECOND CAR 35 OR 36 Chevy or Olds
@@bextar6365 Yup... it has square turn lights.
I know some guys that could take these old cars and restore them and make them look brand new again . Love old cars and trucks like that .
I always watch your videos from Japan.
There are no places like this in my country so I’m so excited to see your trip.
And your English is so clear that I can learn English as well😊
Yosu-key "And your English is so clear that I can learn English (not either, use) also (or) as well." "Either" is for choosing between two different choices. "Also" is inclusive of one or more separate items. "As well" is to include an additional item along with a main choice. Your English is actually very good, but, our language has so many weird things that it is hard to master from the outside. To be perfectly honest, most of our young never actually master the English language because they are taught so poorly.
@@r.blakehole932 I agree...Yosu-key types pretty good English. I'm pretty proud of Wonderhussy for deliberately making it easy to understand what she's saying.
About a year or so ago, someone criticized her for talking too much in her videos. The fact is, she has followers who are blind. Sarah (Wonderhussy) tries
her best to help people to understand her content.
R. Blakehole Thank you for pointing out! You're kind person.😄 I was very confused the difference between these usages but now thanks to you I can understand these exact differences.
You are right. When it comes to lacking skills of mother tongue , the same thing can be said about Japanese youngsters including me 😂
tom frye Tom Thank you for sharing the heartwarming episode about her. I'm touched that she is even thinking about viewers who can't watch the screen. So that's why she explain those scenes in detail.☺️
@@user-hrdh4h2a9c Sarah has a heart as big as a house(8-). She cares. I'll let her know how much you appreciate her. She may not get back here to the comments for
several days. She spends too much time looking for more places to make videos. Thank you for your kind words. I wish you could join Sarah sometime. But
I don't know how to make that happen.
Thanks for the shout out! Appreciate the kind words.
Larry has some serious chuckwagon chops! Looks like a lot of fun.
😂😂
Thank you Joe.
Looks like jowls

At 11 min the thing that looks like a bench is actually an old school bus seat frame. Love the abandoned site videos, former desert rat.
Amazing video! Love old places. Larry's cool✌
hi Sarah another great video,so cool someone put alot of work into that place and wow, what a view.safe travels
Roy certainly had a BEAUTIFUL view :>)
I love love Nevada. Like you, but mostly central and northern Nevada. So much history for me there. I shall return soon.
As always, thanks for taking us to places, we probably wouldn't have gone to and may not have known about.
Seeing that old cupboard setup reminded me of my granny filing a wash-pan with water & Soap flakes, and chucking the grey water out on the flower garden beside the farmhouse.
Been in a few places, where, if it's quiet and you listen, you might just hear the old timers talking it up. Thanks WH for a sharp old place to see.
😂
Larry made you a gourmet meal, and breakfast! Hope you had a great adventure! Thank you for sharing your great finds with us, who can not make the trip to these spots. Stay safe and happy!🤙🧧🌺
Beautiful country! Thanks for the tour, Sarah and Larry!
What a beautiful view there! Ol Roy built a what was once a really beautiful home there too. Smart the way he built it into the hillside. The basement as you refer to it as, was a fortress and extremely well insulated. Someone should restore that place, it is really amazing! I would not mind living there if it had power, but now days, you could setup solar that would be fine for most everything there, except for hot days you could run a generator for the AC be able to run to keep you cool. It would be a great winter place to go to for an extended amount of time! What a blast that place would be and to wake up and have that view everyday would be like you are in heaven! So beautiful!
This is the Wonder Larry section of the comments . Thank you for looking out for the Star of the Show .
I love the middle of no where! Looks like lots of fun Hussy. That steak is right and asparagus n shrooms look so so yummy. Be safe out there.

Cool place, and what a spectacular view from the porch and front window! Good grub, Larry...quite the cook!
Nice video sans Frito pie. Reminds me of part of Colorado near San Luis Valley. Tell the New Galloping Gourmet hello for me, you folks make a great exploration team....anyone for Sequoia NP?
Love the adventures you go on!😀❤
.....Like your smile.....Love your style.....Glad that you guys could spend a while.....!!
That "formica" is actually coated masonite. The metal edge is called "banding" They did the same thing in vintage trailers and formica came on to the scene in the very late 50s. I've known Guy for many years. He was my inspiration for exploring old mines and mining camps.
Good to see Larry again !!!!!!
Love it Wonderhussy 🌹
Thank you for such an awesome site beautiful view incredible Sarah Jane I don't know how you find such remote places but you're the luckiest one of the earth to be able to get out to do this thank you so much I am disabled your point where I could never do that I appreciate you so much thank you
Larry cooks? Perfect companion for the Huss to travel with. Larry brought mushrooms. Just the wrong kind. Wa-wa.
Ames Camp is in Nye County , Nevada. Not too far from a local dinosaur museum of sorts. A dinosaur that lived in the
sea 250 to 145 million years ago. There is another ghost mining town to the north of it too.
Very cool place WH! Thanks for bringing us along! That steak looked very yummy! What? No baked potatoes??! That’s fine asparagus looked yummy too! ♥️♥️♥️
People who can cook outdoors like Larry in a past century would have been hired to be a chuckwagon cook. Looks like he knows how to cook outside, hard work and an important part of a cowboys crew ... And where you were I will not be visiting soon too remote for this city guy, thanks for doing it and sharing please continue your adventures. Later.
I'm like you Sarah I don't understand why people could go somewhere and be so nice and be able to enjoy it and realize that one man did that and then destroy things that I don't understand
Your videos are getting better n better. also nice to have a friend like Larry with ya............thumbs up.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The house that I bought a few years ago had a linoleum rug. I found it when I took up the carpets to refinish the floors!!!!!! The house was built in the early 50's.
Wonderhussy I love you and your videos. Wonderful life you have. Thanks for sharing your videos
Love your videos have fun 😎
Always great adventures .... 5 stars !
Cool video. And a fine feed, Larry. I think it’s neat 2hen you teas, then connected with the blogger through his card.
Awesome video as always. At the 11:13 mark I believe that is the frame of an old school bus seat
Very interesting. Looks like Roy had a pretty nice life out there back in the day.
Cool place to spend sometime
Ah, that was a wonderful venture and a good bit creepy element added for good measure. You always aim to please!! 😊

I love your NKOTB shirt!! I just went to see them in concert for the 1st time with my daughters!💜
Cool spot!
I discovered and photographed this place when I was looking for Grantsville NV. Nice filming.
Glad to see Larry has turned his life around, short order cook very respectable.
Great video!!! Very interesting Nevada scenery 👈👊wonder hussy channel rules!🌅
Take care be safe.
Wonderhussy videos are always interesting. I enjoy off-road expeditions, especially when there is a old Ghost Town as a destination. I want to give a shout out! to Larry, for bringing his BMW X5 off-road. Every time Larry flashes the shaka sign, I smile because it reminds me of home. I'm from the Big Island, living in Nor-Cal.
Stumbled upon your channel. Loved it and subbed!
Go Frogs!

Dang I miss Nevada and all the open spaces. Hi Larry. 💜
Awesome 👍 guys I like the videos 👍😎😎
Another great video, Sarah, as always. I've wanted to ask you this. In all your travels to places like this, have you ever been contacted by any descendents of people like the guy who lived here? Or people still alive who did? The stories they'd be able to share would be awesome to hear! Be safe!
Luxury exploring
My goodness that was a rare steak! Rocking the food that's it how you wonder..
Your awesome thanks
I'm a happier burro for watching this❣️👍😉 Wonderful 📽️✌️
Bonnie & Clyde’s getaway cats!!😂😂

US is amazing country I wish one day I visit there . amazing view love it . we have only cloud wind rain this is it
In spite of all the horror stories in CZcams and Reddit, it is somewhat unlikely any unwelcome incident will occur when you do that. By the way, it sounds like you could become a good singer too.
Built to last, that structure has solid bones.
I was if it was abandoned when he passed.
WH, do you know about the Nevada triangle? Have you considered exploring the various plane wrecks? May have to hike in though.
You remind me of archeologists, how they relate and learn thru left behind trash and debris. We humans leave alot of trash and garbage behind. Oh and do you look for the dump piles/holes from those abandoned places?
NEAT EXPLORE. THANKS
Chow always taste better when you're camping the State closed down a old Nut House out on Long Island I'll be sneaking onto the island someday
I think those "bin" thinggs were for bulk flower. The hind you needed to sift.
LOVE THE YOYO!!!! I want to caravan: The Happy 420 Campers!
