For the old timers not excited to have Wonderhussy in the bar, they have either been hitting the ol’ red-eye to much or they have been in the desert sun to long.
My Grandfather used to stay at the Philadelphia House when he would deliver fuel to the Belmont mine. A lady named “ Philadelphia Rose gave a room to the miners and truckers. My grandfather has many cups of coffee there. It was a b&b I’ve stayed there and played pool. There used to be a miners cabin you could stay at. It was fun staying there
At 6:08 it’s a bed warmer, they put coal or something in it heat it up in the fire then stick it under the blankets and when your ready for bed it’s all nice and warm! Very cool!
Oh Catherine I think you are right that was my guess also!
Too small. Something else. My guess is it's another lantern.
It was filled with hot coals from the fire
@Stephen Keire My mother had what she called a silent butler, a lidded silver thing similar, she used it to dump the ashtrays into at parties.
@@James-pz2bd Yes! I have two of these!
“Maybe this was the original fake news, it wasn’t actually a Newspaper at all, it was a Bar! Honey I’m going to work, Glug, Glug, Glug.”LOL😆
That pot is a bed warmer! Hot coals of wood were placed inside, the lid fitted tightly and then placed under the covers in your bed to warm it up before you climbed under the covers in winter. My mom used a hot water bottle filled with hot water to warm our beds in the Appalachian mountains back when we heated the house with two fireplaces and a coal fired cook stove in our kitchen. As the winter wind whistled through the corners at night and temperatures dropped below freezing, that hot water bottle was a comforting addition to the bed. Houses have not always been as someone as young as you have known throughout your life. 👍🤠🙏✝️
Aye, " back yonder" they used to have little "blackamoors" to warm their feet up. More so in Europe, i fancy.
I stayed in that motel with my ex- husband(were newlyweds then),years ago and it was haunted. It was run on solar and was a bed and breakfast, the food was fanominal! Guy named Don had it and that saloon was open then,he lived in a rock and wood shed behind the motel, possibly that one you showed with the newer front on it, it looked just like it, he showed it to us and all his solar and battery banks. The saloon was there and open then also, all locals, wasn't a tourist area then, so Don must have gone out of business? The rooms were all decorated in period decor and "Wild Horse Sue" rode in from her camp and was the cook for breakfast and dinner. There was a snowstorm that night and one of her young horses got out and "joined" the wild horse herd, so my ex and I drove around in the snow in our 4×4 in the morning to help her find the colt, but she caught him and was coming down the road riding one of her horses and had another on a lead and the colt was following them, along with a small herd of wild horses. We ended up staying another night because of the snow and the fun(we were the only customers, found the place on a map and called the chamber of commerce in Tonopah)and we actually almost bought land there. I have tried to find information on what happened to "Don" but I don't know if that was his real name, because I have only found information on another guy, maybe I have the name wrong. It was about 20 years ago?
Thanks for the info.
We had a washing machine like that when I was little, good to see one again. Before he passed, my dad restored a GMC truck like this. It was his pride and joy. Thank you for the memories WH, great video.
At about 6:00 min. it's a bed warmer 😴💤. Great old town. People go to Las Vegas to gamble and miss all of this great stuff.
Don't think that is a bed warmer. I think it is ...A silent butler, sometimes called an ash butler, is a small container, often of base metal, sometimes silver or silverplate, with a handle and hinged cover, used for collecting ashes or crumbs.
I thought bed warmer too at first but it has a short handle. Every bed warmer I’ve seen has a long handle to reach all corners of the bed.
I thought a bed warmer at first too. I think they might have used it to move coals from one fire to start another. It could sometimes be an ordeal to start a fire if yours went out for some reason and you didn't have anything for kindling. People would sometimes borrow coals from their neighbor.
I was in the town before all those buildings you saw collapsed, we're still standing. The cosmopolitan was a hotel and at the time of my visit still contained the beds on the upper floor. They have been doing renovation on the courthouse since before my visit years ago.
The Cosmopolitan was a two story buildings, was a Saloon, dance hall, restaurant, and the second floor was rooms for rent. Quite the respectable place.
One of my old stomping grounds more than 20 years ago. It was fun to see this video.
I love all those ghost towns of the Old West, never knew Nevada was so beautiful...love the desert!!
So much there and not vandalized. One of your best ghost towns!
Love your videos, you modern old soul! The middle of nowhere never ceases to amaze me. Keep singing 🎶whenever you want.
I'm glad to see you're still hussying it up out there. :)
A little town west of Big Spring where I live has sign on the Interstate that says. "Stanton Home of 3000 Friendly People and A Few Old Sore Heads."
Thank you WH for a nice escape from the crazy world.
Next to the oil lamp in the window (at 6:10) is a small bed warmer. Fill it with a few hot coals from the fireplace and place it under your blanket for a few minutes before you go to bed.
On the next Wonderhussy Adventures - the Musical - YEAaaaaaaa!!!!
Glad to see they or trying to restore some of the town. More history of this town on CZcams from a few people
Brass skillet with lid next to hurricane lamp is a bed warmer. Hot coals were put in the pot and placed between the sheets before bedtime. It was removed before going to bed.
Leaning Grader was pulled by horses or mules and used to grade or smooth the road surface on a tilt or around a corner.
6:06 A dustpan for a waiter to clean the crumbs off the table, or can be used as a ashtray. NOT a bed warmer it's way to small.
We had one when i was a child, you empty ashtrays into it.
They called it a butler to empty ashtrays
the leaning wheel grader is pulled by mules it's awesome to see when it's working it takes 20 mules to pull it to grade a road or Highway so cool and action
The grader could have been pulled by the Caterpillar Twenty tractor rather than mules. They were produced between 1927 and 1931.
SJ, what you’re doing and how you do it is amazing. I was born in Reno, then parents moved to the corn patch. I so long to go back and you’re the next best thing. Thank you so much for being you and bringing us along.
Dang it, now you got me stuck on singing 'Oklahoma! ' Fun video, thank you....Liked the 'fake news' part, too.
That round pot is a bed warmer. You put hot rocks in it and then put it under the blankets to help you keep warm on cold winter nights.
Thank you for taking us on a tour of Belmont, NV! It really is a charming town! Glad you are able to share with us! Stay safe when touring some of the ruins around these towns! Looking forward to your next adventure! Best wishes and happy trails!🤙🧧😀🌄
great video Sarah, I love how you make me feel like I can hear and smell your adventures, reminds me of my grandparents' old town. Your charming and informative narration definitely sets you apart and above other explorers, please keep up the great work darlin, stay say safe and blessed!
Super cool adventure for sure!I think my Fav was seeing Nevada Blue sky.So very dreary here..Stay safe Sarah and thank you
Holy Conoli :) Have been enjoying your blogs from 2011-16. Talk about the evolution of Wonderhussy. The adventures have changed over the years..... Well done Sarah.
We stayed in Belmont a number of years back, the Philadelphia House was called the Belmont Inn, bed and breakfast,, Judy Camarillo {not sure the spelling of her name} was the host,, had a great time, the newspaper building was a bar then,, drank lots of beer sitting out in front of it. Got some great pix of the old buildings too.. Things have really changed since we were there. Thanks for the video. Not sure about the singing,, LOL,,jk
Your quality of videos are greatly improving. With me being from the very green mountains of East Tennessee, your desert area looks strange to me... It is still very pretty, just different. Another thing you do that is impressive is how comfortable you are going with out any makeup. You are confident and happy in your life. Keep enjoying life young lady.
Belmont is a really neat place...so glad you took us there. Would be great to have a place there! Very interesting old artifacts that have been saved...Be great to get a place there before prices go up...once improved they will....Thanks for the excursion. Your Friday Facebook Friend-Jean
Another great ghost town visit of yours! Stay Safe!!
the leaning of the wheels on the grader was to help steer it ,the red globe you saw was for the fire house /multi bldg, the item next to the lamp is for hot coals for portable heat ,under a chair/foot stool the handle was not long enough to co under a bed,,the slot in the ashtray was for a box of matches, great job i just found your content last week &ive been binge watching you as i am ordered to stay in bed since i have 100% heart blockage in my 3 main arteies,,you bring joy to my last days --thank you ,looking at times gone by ,reminds me of my recent future, your happiness puts a smile in my day
Thanks so much. I love watching all you video's.
It's a bed warmer pan. Some of the "real old" bed warmers found in the east Atlantic coast US states and Canadian provinces have longer handles. Believe they pot coals & embers in them and warmed bed in winter months.
The Grader at 10:00 is the grandad to the modern ones which tilts the front wheels. It was made to pull with draft horses and later steam tractors. Great place and great video!
I started singing that song in my head the minute you said surrey!
I visited Belmont 7 years ago. The local bar opened for Memorial Day weekend and all the weekend residence were there. Mostly it was closed. Also went to Manhattan for the parade. Good Weekend.
Love your singing. Beautiful.
I just hope they preserve this town. It is a beautiful site to behold 🏤
The thing next to tge caterpillar is an old well drilling rig
Known as a cable tool rig.
Very nice again Wonderhussy 👍😎👌👋
Thx for the tour, now I want to go there.
Hi from New Zealand, we love your vids keep up the good work.
I love the way you almost sing and talk at the same time!
What a cool place! Too bad the buildings weren't open. I'll definitely have to put this on my places to go list next time I ride through Nevada.
Great video Wonderhussy! Have you ever considered getting a drone for some high perspective footage?
It is so cool…. A snapshot in time …. I would love to visit ….
I need to get down your direction for a little camping.
Willing to show you the Oregon coast as well.
Awesome videos !!!
Used for dumping full ashtrays into. Reduces the risk of starting a fire in a trash can.
That’s the second time you sang that song in ur vids. I loved both times!!
Impressive! Great little town.
WHAT A NEAT PLACE. HOPE YOU CAN GO BACK WHEN YOU CAN GO IN SOME OF THE BUILDINGS.
Well well well, our paths appear to have crossed again
I think it is a bed warmer - set it on the stove before you go to bed - slide it under the covers and viola! Your bed is all comfy and warm.
Cool!! Love your commentary
That's one sweet old GMC long bed ! I love GMC trucks !!!
Get the truck its worth alot to some people lol great video you rock wonder hussy!!
Great nickle/chrome plating on that pristine GMC grille!
Our Halloween special was from Belmont. Great town. Cool video.
Very cool and interesting little town!!
That was a cool video i enjoy exploring all the old ghost towns mines and cemetarirs here in arizona loys of neat stuff here in the old west
Glasses down Phallic lmao .great video
Awesome
Another great video.I just don't understand why communities or the state does'nt maintain and promote these ghost towns to preserve history and to raise revenue to help pay for maintenance.A lot more people would visit if the places were made safe and appealing ,which would raise a lot of revenue and promote tourism.your videos will be a big help towards this end. Thanks again, for revealing another unkown gem of forgotten history.
That round thing with a lid & wooden handle is a bed warmer, you put coals in it & slide it on the sheets to warm the bed just before you go to bed.
That is a perfect location for a photoshoot!!
You should have kept singing 'Tammy'. You were doing a nice job on it and it's still one of my favorite songs. Always happy when I hear it.
Nice scenary. I think it is a Silent Butler. They brushed cigarette butts and ash off the table into the Silent Butler and tossed them in the garbage. Very interesting tour. Thanks! A lending library--how great!!the Couthouse is fab!!!!
Nice one. I’d like to go there now
It would be great if you went back for the Fourth of July! You could meet some really interesting people there. Great job on the video love to go check that place out 😎🤠
Cool video!! I literally laughed out loud when you said phallic!!!
I truly enjoy your videos, you go to places that I myself would love to go and see "but will never get to" :(
So KEWL! Keep Going! Wheeee!
the ashtray with a topper is called "silent butler" much as an Iron is called a
"sad iron" when you need to dig it out of the fire~!
.....Like your smile..... Love your style..... Glad that you could chat a while.....!!
Nice town to tour.
Great video!!!!!😺😺😺😺😺
The red glass at 6:50 appears to be part of a hummingbird feeder- the tray w/flowers is to the left of it...
I would totally rebuild that truck !!
Very nice! I'm going to Belmont.
Wow such a nice restored ghost town tour, thanks for sharing. You know that people who actually live in a place like that can be pretty insular and standoffish about modernity. Most visually interesting shot was inside the huge phallic smoke stack..haha. Know you don't want to stay in there for long but way to go there for the viewer's!
Great material shared here and thanks for doing just that. Greetings from WW2HistoryHunter.
Coulda been a ruckus in the saloon with those camera totin' tourists! Thanks for the tour of Belmont WH!
Hello wonderhussy Ted here saying hi. Cool video of a nice old Ghost Town. Makes me want to come check it out for myself. And hopefully one day I can do that. Glad Larry went with you to always good to have a sidekick. Say hi to Larry for me. Have yourself a good day see you in the next video.
the old yellow Dozer would do it or mules
the desert really preserves things for a long time. i bet some of those buildings are really old
Bad me , somehow i missed this vid ! Great vid! I rode thru Tonapah with my crew 2weeks ago. Talked them into eating at the old Austin hotel even tho Austin was all tore up and mostly closed due to a complete overhaul ti the downtown water and sewer lines. The gal who owns the hotel was very gracious! “Pour Ur yer own and keep track “ Then it was off to Paradise Valley. My compadres wanted to know how i knew about all these BFE places in Nevada so now they know about Wonderhussey on CZcams !
I did not know about Dirty Dicks tho, or we would’ve definitely stopped in! Time for another roadtrip! Thanks !
I’m glad some folks happen to mention that you do use ‘creepy’ a bit too much sometimes. Not trying to be critical, just offering a critique
That covered brass pot with a handle is a coal bed/foot warmer. You fill it up with hot coals and warm up your bed at night.
The item, in the window next to the oil lamp, is a bed warmer.
Wow, that is an interesting old mining town. I’ll definitely have to check it out.
Nice👍👍✌
Here with my friend Larry!
I know everybody can google, Sarah Jane, so you might already know this, but the graffiti you were looking for is on a door frame on the first floor. It supposedly says, "Charlie Manson + family 1969," with a peace sign in the "o." Tasker Oddie has an interesting biography in Wikipedia, from which I quote: "He served as governor between 1911 and 1915 (as he was not married at the time, his mother Ellen Oddie and his sisters acted as official hostesses). On March 17, 1911 he signed the city charter for Las Vegas. During his tenure, women got the right to vote, a state motor vehicle law was sanctioned, mining safety legislation was endorsed, and there were improvements to workmen's compensation benefits." Belmont isn't mentioned in that bio, but Nye County is. I'm guessing he lived in that abode prior to his political ascent.
Wow, what a neat old town. The Caterpillar Tractor you saw there would have or could have been used to pull the road grader you also saw there. The kinda of like pot with a lid around the 6:00 mark I believe was used to heat your bed in olden days. My mom told me that her and dad had one when they got married and moved into our old 1802 farmhouse which at the time had no heat other than a wood/coal burning cook stove in the kitchen so the rest of the house was unheated and cold. There is a specific name for that "bed warmer" but unfortunately I no longer remember it. I do remember though that mom and dad's was cast iron and black. Mom said they would put rocks/stones in the kitchen stove and let them heat up before putting them into the bed warmer and sliding it under the covers into the bed, especially the foot of the bed because mom always had cold feet and she said that "warmer" would keep their feet and the rest of their bodies toasty warm for most of the night. I now own and live on the old family farm (what's left of it) and the house now has a modern heating system and thermopane windows but I don't remember seeing that old bed warmer anywhere. I suppose they might have looked at it as junk and were glad to throw it away when they got a heating system in the house. Now I wish I still had it as it would make a neat conversation piece hanging on the wall.
The reason that old truck grill is still so shiny is because it is stainless steel
Love the Oklahoma reference!
