Everyone TOLD ME there was NO SIDEWALK HERE so I spent 15 HOURS uncovering it

- I had multiple neighbors and also the owner of the home tell me that they had never seen a sidewalk here. So, I spent the next 15 hours completely uncovering it and proving them wrong. This has to be one of my most labor intensive jobs as the sidewalk was covered in multiple inches of dirt and removing it took around 50 wheelbarrows full. Everybody was shocked with the result to say the least and it completely transformed the look of the home and the entire corner.

Hey Spencer, ever think of coming out to Cali?? 😉
Keep up the great work! I enjoy your videos every week!
I’m in NYC. Thank you for everything you do and I hope you have an amazing time and meet some great folks 😊
This is my aunts home. She passed years ago. In my 34 years of life, I never knew there was a sidewalk!!! I watch this channel often. Never would've thought I would know the house that was being serviced! You are a blessing, and I pray God continues to bless you!
I love that you found this video! This is the kind of thing that can happen so quickly to a yard and be financially impossible to clear, and it gets more challenging to want to tackle if you have any physical limitations. I could tell by the smokers that your aunt liked to host, I'm sure she was a blessing in life as this is to her surviving family. ❤
so that was ur cousin in the video that came up and talked to him
Now the city will come by and say the sidewalk will need to be repaired
the young lady should have offered him something to drink or even a meal for lunch - some people should learn manners

@@percussioncourtyard-pt6oi That would have been nice.
You should do a “where are they now” series and go back to all the overgrown lawns you’ve serviced.
We both know the outcome of that video, the lawns don't get to that state because they don't know HOW to deal with it, just that they don't WANT to deal with it and/or don't want (or can't afford) to spend the money to get someone else to deal with it.
@@bellowick Exactly. I'd venture to say that almost all of them, including this one, go right back to looking horrible within weeks. I have a lot of properties around me that could care less what their yards look like nor do they care what anyone thinks about it.
In my experience watching these videos they are often pensioners who can't do yard work and definitely can't afford to pay someone. You'd think the neighborhood would step up in those cases.
That is such a good idea
@@inthefade And in my experience, its usually able bodied people who just could care less about their yard and what anyone thinks about it.

Seeing that the owner just inherited the house after their mom passed is a major blessing. Not all neglect is from laziness instead plenty of time folk just get overwhelmed by life especially when it's another family members house to begin with
Agreed! My husband and I moved in with my mother after my father passed, and OH my GOD is the whole property in disarray! We just have to deal with it, little by little, but I don't blame her for letting it get out of hand, as she is disabled and my dad was terminally ill for a long time, with her as his only real caregiver. We've done all we could, but when your dad is dying, the lawn isn't what you think about first. At least it wasn't for us.
it happens all the time !!
They about to be overwhelmed with city assessments expenses when they come to replace that cracked up trip hazard sidewalk now
@@SuperQBoithat’s the city’s problem, the sidewalk isn’t the home owners responsibility to repair.
@@SuperQBoisidewalk is Public property. If they try that she can easily dispute it
As a wheelchair user, I want to thank you for doing this for the neighborhood. Even a cracked sidewalk is better (and SAFER) than rolling on grass or having to go out in the street. Some people don't realize how important things like sidewalks are for disabled or elderly people - I'm looking at you, people complaining that the cracked sidewalk is now exposed. I would have been ecstatic if I was one of those neighbors as it would mean I could more easily and SAFELY go on walks (you know what I mean) around the neighborhood.
(Edit: I didn't intend to make anyone feel bad about this. I was simply trying to bring awareness to a subject that most people are unaware of. Even if it's something that never crossed your mind before, please don't feel bad; I don't blame anyone who never thought about it. Advocating for accessibility has been part of my life since I was a young child. My goal is just to provide a different perspective that may open someone's mind to a way of life unfamiliar to them.)
This 🙌 sidewalks are a safer option in general, but especially for as you mention elderly and those with disabilities. It's got to be tough as it is, let alone dealing with area's that aren't as handicap friendly 😮💨
Well you certainly added a different opinion that I’d have never of thought of. I did see the busted up sidewalk and thought wow that’s in a state of disrepair, your post opened my eyes to seeing it a different way. So thanks for posting and educating others.
This benefits everybody. I don't see a problem, but some people don't like you to do nice things for others.
sidewalk... sure.... but 1/2 the front yard too???? thats too much soil to be by accident. someone covered up all that concrete on purpose to grow a lawn. This went a bit too far IMO, but agree that public sidewalks should always be maintained.
@@JimmyWalta and the homeowner was happy with the work that he did, so idk what the issue is, honestly. 🤷🏻♀️ I appreciate you agreeing that sidewalks are important, though.
Hi! Good news - Mark Consuelos just talked about you on the show "Live with Kelly and Mark"! He said he especially loves watching you do the edging, "so satisfying" !!😂 Congrats on being mentioned on national television! 👏 ❤
Is there a clip on youtube?
@Clancker1223 Yes, but not an "official" clip so it might come down for copyright. I found it just searching "Live with Kelly and Mark" on YT. It's definitely on their show's website, though, too. It's from the March 29th, '24 episode, in the beginning part where they chat, within about the first 5 minutes. Kelly is wearing a red skirt if that helps. 🤣🥰❤️

That was a ton of work it was amazing all the sidewalk fancy attempts at terracing back in the day. Looks so much better probably took you a couple of days to recover.
I was shocked at that neighbor's attitude. Cleaning up that property adds to the value of his own.

And therefore higher taxes

I tell you what. I love the popularity that is happening with people who do stuff like powerwashing, lawn work, carpet cleaning, pool cleaning, hoof trimming, etc. Because it shows how difficult and also cool this kind of work is. So many people want to talk down on these kinds of jobs, yet here we all are enjoying and learning about it through videos like yours. Hope stuff like this becoming popular gets people to respect these kinds of jobs more and maybe even consider them as a career path.

All that grass and soil would make some great compost. Good job! Thank you for caring about your town.
That's what I was wondering, if all the dirt and grass that was removed could be mixed up and distributed into compost bins and worm barrels to make some good fertilizer for a garden.
Possibly, but if there's any kind of weeds in there, all it takes is a piece if root 1mm long and you'll have a composter full of weeds

I shovel 4 inches of fresh snow twice in the last 24 hours . lol
Hahaha...I am 68, and I can relate...😂❤
Didn't work out in the yard. Spencer has me feeling I'd be in traction for a month. Hard work, nice job. 👍
I'm a 72 year old female and other than for raking - which I can do with 15 minute breaks every hour - I limit myself to 3 hours outside a max, even shovelling snow after a blizzard. It will get done, I'm not on pay for hire!
Having the tools for a lot of it definitely helps. That shovel with that little handle probably helps a bit. Probaly something besides your normal cheap garden shovel for sure. The two weedwhacker things, I'm guessing one is like an edger? Then not having to sweep it all up with the blower is probably nice. Obviously picking up the dirt that's scraped off concrete is work, but putting it in a good wheelbarrow isn't to be overlooked. I'm sure that extra stuff only goes so far though.
This is the kind of thing neighbourhoods need to be doing for each other

I don’t see any sidewalks on either side of side of the street. They may have let it grow over on purpose. Where I live home owner is responsible for damage to sidewalks, if someone is injured due to uneven, or ice wet leaves, it could fall back on homeowner. Easier to just mow over it. JMO

No way! The neighbor was so nice coming over to let you know how long that sidewalk was buried. Over 20 years, if he moved in 20 years ago. And the curbs were so bad. I'm surprised the city never said anything about the sidewalk and curbs. My town would have been issuing fines left and right. My town would also make the owner fix the broken sidewalk. If done correctly, they could pour right over the old sidewalk instead of digging it out as well. Not the case in my town. We have to dig out the broken areas and put in new. All those hidden expenses of owning a home. I, like you, fixed up our yard for family functions. We had several trees around 250 years old, and some only 75-100 years old. Sunshine and shade all day. It was a beautiful yard. ❤😊 Great job Spencer. The neighbors and owner are deeply touched by your hands and generosity. ❤😊
Look at the neighbouring properties in the drone shots. Look at the trees and the pathways on the other properties. This isn't a city sidewalk. Because of this people are increasingly selfish, crime has increased, and communities have degraded or disappeared. Don't believe me? @@Kinuhbud That wasn't the reason. The reason was because look at the demographics of that area lmao. They never maintain their stuff, everything they have is always broken, run down, and destroyed, and it's like that wherever you find them. They don't take care of their own stuff, much less someone else's stuff. Everyone knows this. Yet I see comments on CZcams all the time where people are pretending to be blissfully ignorant lmao. Like when you see a news story about them looting and burning a city, people write "where were their parents at? Why are they so angry?"... it's like, dude just look at the skin color. There's your answer, stop pretending to be unaware lmao.
@@SlingshotMustang I can feel the racist energy emanating from this comment lol. It's definitely more toward the other guy's explanation. If you don't like black people, you're better off just saying it outright, instead of trying to barely conceal it. Wear your racism proudly. Every other one of your people on the internet do.
It's really nice of you to do this for people! I hope you get offered a (hot) meal and coffee or tea while you're so busy. ❤
You can see the sidewalk from top of the helicopter flyby. That's crazy. I'm glad he's finished up and gone home. 😮
I sooooo agree.. I was wondering if anyone even offers him a cold bottle of water 💦
As someone who also does lawn work/construction for my neighbourhood, hauling dirt suckssss and its way heavier than you think specially from grass roots. I’ve built gardens for people and digging up lawns is back breaking but kinda fun knowing the finished product will brighten someone’s day. Keep up the good work man 👍
The country is so divided these days, God bless you for sharing your time, talent, and kindness. You are an amazing person!
Man, that was a massive amount of sidewalk!! Thank God you didn’t have to dig up a concrete driveway, too!! Much respect to you!!
The owner aint gonna be too happy when code enforcement comes around and starts ticketing for an unsafe sidewalk which she will have to pay for out of her own pocket to get it back up to code .....should cost around $5,000 to replace the entire sidewalk......great job helping out the owner there.....smh
@@johnjames4567 Those who can, do. Those you can’t, criticize. And, I’ve never heard of a single family dwelling homeowner being required to replace or repair a public sidewalk. In your reasoning, if leaving it covered satisfies the code, the owner can dump some top soil over it and seed it. But, replacing the sidewalk is the city’s responsibility, particularly since it’s not ADA compliant.
@@johnjames4567I was thinking the same thing!
@@Chris_Comments Not sure about the US but in Europe you tend to have rules where your property line is to the street BUT the city requires a sidewalk. And if any work is done, like a total rebuild of the sidewalk, everybody in that street pays part of the costs for their portion. So if you have a corner property, you enjoy a nice big bill, vs a single sidewalk / less wide home. Again, depends on the country but we have had those nice bills when they redid the sidewalk. Nothing for the street itself as that is public but the sidewalk is "your" property... where your forced to have a sidewalk, yep, bill!
There is also a issue of responsibility. If that sidewalk we see above, somebody trips because of its damaged state, it can fall back on the house owner. Before they are able to argue, there was no clear sidewalk with it overgrown but now...
@@benjiro8793 let me educate you here sweetheart. One reason we pay a stupid amount of taxes on everything here in the USA, because usually the government takes care of most public sidewalks/streets/parks etc

I live in New Zealand and ive been following and watching your videos for a couple of years now... this was an amazing service though... Major difference❤ Keep it up. You are awesome 👌
Watching your work is so satisfying especially the before and after shots🎉Great job and God bless you for being a blessing to others❤
Absolutely insane! That's easily a 4 man job at least. I would be out of commission for a month if I tried to do this now. Definitely a young man's endeavor! Awesome work!
She better stick a for sale sign in the front asap!
Extremely pointless too. What a waste of everyone's time. Why would any idiot clear out an abandoned yard? Makes zero sense.
@@rickwilliams967lol you're telling me you can't think of ONE single positive about his work? Shows your lack of intelligence and your rotten attitude 💀💀
Excellent job clearing, interesting to see the mixed reactions. Given how completely destroyed the sidewalk is and how inconsistently it even exists around the neighborhood, I think it probably would look better as just grass land. But very few things will grow right in shallow soil over concrete, and maintenance would be a pain, frequently damaging lawn equipment with surprise shards of concrete, so if it's going to be grass it's definitely better to clear off the sidewalk and remove all the destroyed concrete first.
Yeah was my thoughts as well, in my city they would have redone sidewalk and actually put in curbs but also fined me into the ground for letting it get that bad but I guess if you don't pay they don't really do much since my neighbor has a forest in their back yard or just a perk of having a 10 ft privacy fence
Great job!!! You should come back and trim all the bushes and trees! They REALLY NEED IT! ❤❤❤
SB despite the obstacles you still done an remarkable job!!!God bless you my brother.
Amazing job! I can’t believe the city did not maintain the sidewalk to begin with…Thanks for sharing!
when you start relying on the state for everything it all crumbles
Some local Govt. force homeowners to maintain the sidewalks. They'll refuse a CO and prevent selling it, until the home owner installs new sidewalk.
Ah, well done mate. You should be so proud of the service you provide to people. I think it's amazing anyway. I watch every video with enjoyment. Here watching in the UK
The first time I saw a mower like yours was about 30(!) years ago. The fellow was dutifully mowing a company's lawn during a hail storm.
And I know your videos are sped up but I have the feeling you get right to it any way.
Thanks for helping these people out. There is always sad about an abandoned house.
It's pretty profound what a difference your hard work made to that property. Nice job.
Bless you, I made it! Rest for sure, I was like, this young man is super worked out. ❤
Good job Spencer for accepting that awesome challenge of unearthing the sidewalks. It leads me wonder if the rest of the community will hire you to unearth the rest of the sidewalks, or if they allow all your hardwork to go back underground. That would be heart-rending. 😢.
It's all for the content, what happens after doesn't really matter. But, I have thought it would make a cool video I'd he showed threses properties like a year later
Anywho, as I was saying, well done Spencer. As someone who appreciates hardwork and the kind efforts of others, I really hope that the community continues forward and unearth those sidewalks! 🙏👏👌
That guy didn’t speak much English but tried to make conversation ❤❤❤ reminded me of my father in law❤ ❤ ❤
I noticed several people walking down the street in the video. Now they have a sidewalk to walk down....as long as they don't break an ankle! Great job Spencer!!
Most city folk won't use a sidewalk if it was brand new
Probably would have had an easier job selling it if people didn't know the sidewalk was there. Not sure anyone wants to replace it given they didn't even bother redoing it when putting in ramp and stairs but is nice to have the street sidewalk uncovered maybe city will finially fix it but may put that on homeowner as well.
That B body Delta 88 and Box Caprice as well as that C10 in the neighbors driveway were awesome. This has to be one of the most extensive yard clean ups Spencer had done, and it was also nice to see some old classic vehicles as well.
It is so satisfying to see these transformations. You can’t fake this for content.
I bet you were thinking “ what did I get myself into “ but it was worth it!! Great job!! Keep up the good work!! ❤❤❤
Wow!! That was some major work you did Spencer!! An incredible transformation! I'd love to see you go back to this property one day to do the backyard and maybe some more manicure work on the trees/bushes and such out front. Have a great Easter weekend! PS; I can't believe the GFM you set up for Edgar & Ivy's Rescue Mission has reached almost 172 thousand. That is unbelievable!!
What an amazing job you did! If that lady is really thinking of selling the house, she's in great shape to do it now. You have saved her so much work and money. It's awesome! 😊
What a job! That was so much hard work. Bless you for doing that. Now there is a nicer place to walk.
You do such a spectacular job! It's so wonderful of you volunteering your time to do this. May our Heavenly Father bless you. Get some rest .
"Spencer later discovered a previous owner trucked in hundreds of lbs of top soil, and spent hundreds of $$ on grass seed to cover up the broken sidewalks.."
Lol
In actual fact, after listening to Spencer talk to the current owner, we can guess that sidewalk was buried at least 40, maybe 50 yrs because she said 'in all her life she never saw that sidewalk "
and her neighbor said similar!
I was wondering that early on in the video, cheaper to cover it up
From that and what the other neighbour said, and the state of that wheelchair access ramp, which has itself clearly seen better days, and of the front porchway, it is a distinct possibility that a previous owner built the pathway as a decorative vanity feature for the property, and possibly even the wheelchair access ramp too. But it clearly has not been covered up. The grass was growing unevenly following the cracks, not evenly from having turf laid down or some such. It had just been left to decay. There are a lot of comments here about Spencer having made a tripping hazard. On the contrary: It clearly was already a tripping hazard decades ago when the wheelchair access ramp was built. The old pathway does not seem to have been well built in the first place. Notice in the drone shots how the neighbours do not have flat lawns. This old pathway was probably not built with a very good flat foundation.
I was thinking the same thing! The sidewalks are not in good shape. Wondering if the town will now require them to be fixed.
I cannot see any evidence of foot traffic so I'm guessing nobody will use the now exposed sidewalk. People seem to get cited for long grass but not burying a sidewalk 🤔
When the sidewalks are that broken up I can see why some homeowners choose to let them stay covered up. The cost to pull all that concrete out and replace it will be real expensive . In my city the homeowners have pay to fix any broken up or unlevel side walk sections. Plus keep them clear of snow within 24 hours of a snow storm. Or you get fined.
My first thought after seeing the sidewalk was I bet the neighbors are cussing him out. Now everyone knows they probably have one too. Where I live the homeowner is responsible for keeping the sidewalk clear of grass and debris.
I have the same situation. A broken sidewalk is a huge liability for me as a homeowner. I just spent a lot of monet fixing a small bit of sidewalk. However, I believe that in some places, the city is responsible for repair. I hope that is the case here. Still, it is a joy to see Spencer find the sidewalk.
YEP!!!
@nathanscott7910 YEP 😁
@@nathanscott7910 agree, look at all surrounding house, it just look like all the owners intentionally cover the sidewalk, clearing one only may just annoy all other owners and not really useful, given that everyone just drive...
