- Welcome to Wonderhussy Adventure #432
Dates of Adventure: 5/23/20-5/25/20
On January 5th, 1967, a super secret A-12 CIA spy plane went down in the desert just east of Area 51. For years, the exact location of the crash site remained a mystery...until dogged enthusiasts managed to figure out where it happened, and even crafted and installed a memorial to the pilot who died in the accident.
I've been wanting to find this secret location for at least a year, and I finally embarked on an expedition with my boozy friend Scott to hike to the memorial at last. Scott is an Army vet with military training...and I'm just a busybody with an unquenchable thirst for adventure. Watch as the rough terrain and extreme temperatures grind us down...until at the end, only one man is left standing. Who will it be??

Hey Sarah, I'm the guy Scott met at the bar who told him about landing the helicopter up there at the Memorial! Very nice job, both of you! Putting that flag on the memorial was mission accomplished! Well done! With that model permanently pointed at Groom Lake, it's like Walt is still up there trying to get home. I just love that he had a visitor on Memorial Day. He paid the ultimate price in total secrecy, and now we owe it to him and all the other secret warriors from the Cold War to never forget them! Again, well done!
Hi Ray!
Rest in Peace Walt... you are remembered and honored.
🇺🇸
As a Cold War Submarine Veteran I salute you for all you did !!!! Thanks from us to you !!!❤️✌️🇺🇸
@Ray Nixon I share your sentiment. Those who were lost while serving their nation behind the veil of secrecy should never ever be forgotten. When the time is right, I think both civilians that care and the relevant security establishments should publicly embrace these loyal unsung heroes, before its too late for the families.
This has to be one of your best videos. It has drama, patriotism, appropriate music, and a goal achieved. Loved your respect at the memorial site. I was so mad when "boozy Scott" left you alone in the middle of nowhere, then relieved when you found him waiting for you. Next time you go out into the wild with him, the order of the day is that there will not be any alcohol allowed. Again, this video is in the top 5.
That wind whistling through the exhaust....
So cool!
I really liked that. Nice touch to build it so it does that.
@deborah gracie In perpetual landing approach to base.
gave me shivers
Yes, that was awesome! ✈
Kudos to Scott. I believe he cared enough to stick around, in case you needed help. And good on you for making the effort to hike up there to honor this man, lost to all!
Sarah it makes me proud to know you seeing how you made this trip despite the problems. I'm a retired Air Force Tsgt of 22 years. These days it seems young folks don't always appreciate the sacrifices the military makes to keep us safe. But you are special. Thank you so much.
This is one of your best videos that I have watched. Great job finding the site and honoring this Patriot. From a USAF retired Veteran 1974-1996.
Here's a little technical background gleaned from 30 years in Air Traffic Control (plus > 50 in aviation generally): When I hired in (1968) there was a section in our procedures manual (ATP--Air Traffic Procedures) titled Aspen/Dutch flights. It concerned SR71 and YF12 operations). It also included U2s, but altitudes are the only common denominator with the others. Later, long wing B-57 aircraft were included and the section became titled "Pressure Suit Flights".
The principal issue was that they were treated just like all other jets through the flight levels (18,000' and above) until they got to FL600. Then we cleared them to operate (On Top) above FL600, and we generally paid them no mind. Any request for an actual altitude was answered by "above FL600".
While I was under the impression back then that SR71s and (Y)F12s were essentially the same airplane, recent documentaries suggest that one was slightly smaller, slightly faster, slightly higher than the other, but for our purposes, they were identical. And, not only were they made of titanium, Kelly Johnson (the designer) and Lockheed had to develop forging techniques previously unavailable for the titanium.
Most SR71s (all such references hereinafter refer to A12s and YF12s equally) were based at BAB (Beale Air Force Base in California). A typical flight profile had them take off with just a few thousand pounds of fuel and then immediately tank to top things off. You should know that not just any jet fuel would do. While all the rest of the military fleet uses Jet A (JP4), the SR71 uses a product called JP7. It's refined and modified for use at altitudes near 100,000'.
Then the SR71 disconnects and climbs to its requested altitude, getting clearance up to FL600 from ATC, and then ATC clears them to operate "On Top above FL600". Even On Top, they were always in contact with ATC, partly because they had to make periodic descents below FL600 to tank. That is the process referred to tin the narrative.
I'm surprised the CIA (or Groom Lake BasOps) didn't coordinate for an additional tanker to get a few thousand pounds more fuel somewhere in that mission. It wasn't like it was an unknown problem. Maybe they just couldn't get one with JP7. I'm sure that's not available at every base.
I worked a couple of SR71s in my career, once in Jacksonville (ZJX) and once in Chicago (ZAU). They definitely went fast.
LRod Peterson, thanks for the fascinating insight.
Thank you indeed
Thank you for sharing this
My "Dress" cap is an SR 71 with a perfect outline of the plane from the front.
I am occasionally near Dyess AFB and it elicits a lot of comments with many asking if I flew the plane.
Sorry to say I did not but I know I would have liked to have flown it.
And they were top dog when they entered control led airspace and stated clearance for altitude and awed the commercial pilots.....and they developed a hypersonic drone launched fff the 12, but malfunctioned and took out. The plane and drone
Hey Wonderhussey thank you for such and amazing effort to pay tribute to the fallen hero! Your perseverance was especially encouraging! If at first you don’t succeed try try again👍🏼 you certainly rock✌🏼
You're a wonderful young woman Sarah, a true patriot! I too served with the 101st Airborne, from 1966 thru 1968. Thank you for a great Memorial Day. 🇺🇸
Looks like the Strategic Schnapps Command consists of General Hussy & Major Disappointment!
Hilarious! 😂
Haha! Best laugh I've Had in a long time. Thanks.
Lol
Or we could say"Wonderwussy, formerly known as Scott". I hope he can admire and acknowledge the expertise and perseverance of "Wonderhussy" Sarah you sure can spin a yarn. Love to watch your videos. Thanks for taking me along.
@@cherylh6920 I think Scott was along. Why? Because at 23:45 and again at 24:30 the camera pans left as Sarah is walking to the left 6" away from the camera. No selfie stick.
Thankyou for remembering one of those who sacrificed all for their service, attention to one of many who are not acknowledged for their service, peace be with you fellow vets, Really!
I would have never known about that crash site and monument if you hadn't done this video.
Thank you again, Sarah. :-)
Scott committed one of the "Cardinal Sins" of desert exploration: He drank alcohol before and during the trip. It's no wonder he felt lousy - alcohol increases dehydration in desert climates.
I don't think his smoking helped either.......🤔.
You absolutely know about us strong-willed men: we hate asking for directions and we constantly need to be "buttered-up" after our infallible knowledge has been shredded.
We ALSO have trouble sometimes accurately estimating _LENGTH..._ 😝😝😝

As a Retired Marine I wish to thank you for doing what your doing especially at the Memorial to the Fallen Government Service Member. A Tribute like that is a Special one indeed. Semper Fi Wonder Hussy. Dave M. E9 /USMC/RETIRED

Loved this video! Love all your vids, as I love exploring remote back roads. My dad was a navigator/RSO on the SR-71 1966-74. He used to load all of us kids up and drive through the desert looking for ghost towns and mine sites on the weekends near Edwards AFB. Your videos remind me of those times. Thank you!
So proud of you, General W. Hussy! Truly amazing what you did and you were also very thoughtful of Scott. He needs more water to drink for hiking! Anyway, proud of you and Scott. It was a wonderful gesture to remember this vet on Memorial Day and have your vet friend enjoy what he could. Thank you for taking us on this trip. I never would have the guts to do this but maybe when I was younger. Love you! Keep safe and well!
This has got to be one of your best adventures ever. Kudos on your tenacity and skills in the desert. You truly are Wonderful! Thanks girl for letting this old man share your life👍
Great tribute to a lost pilot. Beautiful. I admit I almost teared up on your moment of silence.
Best regards.
Sarah Jane, thank you so much for your support for Veterans. Myself being a disabled Veteran, it means a lot. I'm glad you found it. Now I myself have add another to my bucket list. Keep up the great work Wonder Hussy
What a great video. Thank you for teaching us some history of a true HERO and taking us along on your travels. Your friend and 4 runner owner.
An really excellent way to spend Memorial day Sara. Very proud of you for going to this place and letting us all know about this Memorial sight. Very few folks knew about this place and the man who died working on the skunk works. Thank you and God bless you.
Great job again Sarah!
I love your storytelling,
what a wonderful gift you have!
I appreciate that you are respectful of all of the sites you find. Being a veteran, I really liked how you honored this hero. Thank you.
This was a super great adventure. Thank you for continuing to find this location. The Taps at the end was so sad but fitting for you to do this on your video. Hugs Sarah.
Sara Jane you have earned your promotion and I salute you!!!🇺🇸 Field Marshal Wonder Hussy- the new Desert Fox!!!
She travels to all of these great places and then shares her adventures with us. She should change her name to Wanderhussy. I love these videos.
Yep.... what's even better is how she is making money doing this for us. Good for her. I have always said... of I win the lotto, Sarah will get a nice fund gift from me.

The accident is likely fake or maybe they sacrificed the pilot on purpose. Area 51. The date of the crash can be written as 5/1. In Gematria the word "conspiracy" equals 51. "Tinfail hat" equals 51. There is nothing at Area 51. It' s a joke staged by the government for people to have exactly the reaction they are having to it. People focus on Area 51 but have no clue or don't want to believe in the cabal of evil Jews running the world or the Gematria decodes Zach Hubbard does. This plane crash occurred 109 days after the CIA's founding anniversary of 9/18 and 1007 weeks after the CIA actual founding date in 1947. The word "military" both equals 109 and 107. It was 124 days or 4 months 4 days until a total solar eclipse in 1967 on May 9th. Military also equals 44 and "military industrial complex" equals 124. Dusty Female Cat 2 does Gematria decodes too just like Gematria Effect News. This is the code basically by which they screw with us in regards to when and where to do certain things. People can go on the Gematrinator Calculator to check for themselves.
"Wanderhussy" well said, Pirate Labs! We see what you did there! 🤣🤣🤣👌👍
Well Sarah that was fantastic!
The American Flag and your moment of silence was very respectful. So glad you did not give up and I love your commentary on Scott! Glad he waited for you! So glad you made it!
Thanks for this adventure. Hunkered down in Davis, CA caring for 95 yr old mom and you provided relief from the daily grind and especially from the news! I love your channel!
Thanks you for sharing and not giving up on finding the memorial of walter Ray and the crash site. Loved how you left the American flags at the site too. Thank you Wonderhussy!!

I wish I were 40 yrs younger and could hike along with you! Keep these great ventures coming! You’re the BEST!
Well done, Sarah Jane, thank you for your perseverance in finding the crash site and honoring Walt's memory. As a long time volunteer (and Army vet) at our local air museum, I have a definite interest in old aircraft. Hadn't heard of the A-12 but definitely know about the SR-71, its "cousin". I enjoy your desert exploits. You are a unique individual! Carry on! ❤😊👍
As usual you made me smile but also my eyes welled up a little. What nice tribute you did and from now on I'll tell all my friends about the "Fabulous" Wonderhussy!
Hi Sarah! What an amazing adventure!...loved your comments and video work. I'm looking forward to watching your other adventures. Thanks again for taking time to present such a respectful and touching look at Walter Ray's inspiring act of service.

Another great video! Great job finding the beautiful memorial!! Thank you for not giving up!
After he retired I worked for Dutch 20 as a pilot and we had wonderful conversations about the A-12.SR71 including his crash. I was told things that most people never knew but now all these years later this information is available for those who want to further their understanding of this accident.. Thanks for binging this to us during COVID-19.
When the woman was more dogged and determined than the man. Tons of respect.
On behalf of all your fans we salute you Wonderhussy !
Outstanding Sarah.....4.0 ! The roadrunnerinternationale gives great depth to the crash site ! Thank you for your dedication !
Wonderful Memorial Day adventure, Wonderhussy. People often don't realize how difficult navigating to a specific site can be. You earned that ration of grog....schnapps. We salute you. 😎💕

That was really cool. Thnx for deciding to shoulder on and find it. Great adventure. 😎✌️
Thank's for taking us along.this was an Awesome trip.
You are so mean to Scott, love it. I am sure he laughs along. You seem to have found the distance the walkie talkies work 4 feet. Love the horses and glad your spunk got you there. Thank you Scott for hanging out for her and thank you Sara for the awesome video and entertainment. Stay safe, love your videos.
Love the video, thanks for letting Scott do his "man" thing even when he looked lost!!!!!
they were there! just didn't see it.
What a sweetheart! Hats off to Walter Ray and special thanks to Scott and the anonymous remote guide.
Excellent video Sarah!!! Wonderful narration and videography. One of your best to date even though I haven't seen them all. I am REALLY impressed with the respect you give to all the sites you go to. Not like most idiots that have to vandalize and deface everything they see. Well done and keep up the great adventures!!
This is only the third video I’ve watched of yours and I truly loved it thank you very much
Thank you for your service Scott.
I do like aviation and aviation history. I really appreciate your taking on this challenge.. I will never be able to see this place in person, and your trip has allowed me to experience a very historic location. Thank you for your efforts. Salute to Walt... Rest in Peace, you are remembered and honored. May your sky always be blue.
I decided to subscribe after I watched this upload. You and your friends' respect for our Country and our fallen heroes is awesome. Really enjoy your explorations and learning what's out there.
This is one of my favorite Wonderhussy videos. Even though as a fellow Manson Family enthusiast, I enjoy your barker ranch and Death Valley videos, as a Veteran, and military dependent during the cold war, this one shot up the list to my favorite. Thank you Wonderhussy for this video. Great job.
Very entertaining episode. Your off beat humour made me smile 😊
WH, this is one of your best vids ever!!
Koodo’s great, very respectful, video. Thanks for going the extra mile to find the spot, and paying respects for all of your viewers,
Haven't watched any Wonderhussy vids in quite a while. Looking good, Sarah Jane!
Thank you for another great video.
Ahhh, another fitting name for Sarah Jane, General Hussy! Perfect. You were a perfect model for leadership skills. Allowing your subordinates to problem solve and think on their feet, but keeping your own mind focused on the objectives with resources available when needed. What a perfect execution of a successful mission along with a sincere heartfelt tribute to a fallen hero and show of support to all those who serve our country. You are truely worthy of the honorary title of General Hussy. I salute you for your preparedness, encouragement and perseverance.
Good work Scott, you redeemed yourself by not abandoning your partner in the desert. Next time bring food and water along with party supplies. Ya gotta keep gas (nutrition and hydration) in the tank, cause if you run out, uhh, well... you could have wound up like our pilot friend in this story. Good news is you got a second chance to keep flying along in life.
Sarah Jane you know the old saying, behind every good man there is a great woman. You officially get to say ... there is a great Wonderhussey...lol. You are still the Bomb sister girl. I'd follow you anywhere in the desert with confidence. Safe travels and pets to the pup and kitty. Great video, one of the Top 3 in my book !
This was awesome!! Your videos keep getting better and better!!! Keep up the good work!! Cheer's!!!
Top notch episode. Drama, conflict, suspense, adventure, and emotional tribute with a happy ending. Thanks.
THANK YOU FOR YOUR EFFORT TO FIND THIS MEMORIAL AND SHARE THIS WITH EVERYONE.

Sarah way to hang in there and not give up. Very nice work. Thanks for taking us on the trip.
One of your best adventures! Thanks for the entertainment...
Wow, , that moment of silence teared me up. God Bless America!!
Well done hussy. Proves you are a stand up hussy!! Seriously, love your style at the site of memorial. You done good.
Perseverance pays off. Loved this video 👍🇺🇸 Well done WONDER HUSSY.
Congratulations on the success. You rock!
Thanks, cool video. You are slowing wining me over especially with respect to Veterans. Every thing we have is due to some guy who gave all for us. Thanks again.
Given the current situation, I have been binge-watching a lot of U-Tube stuff including many of the WH adventures. This one stands head and shoulders above the rest. I think the reason for that is your steadfast motivation to find this site. Your dedication near the end to the memory and the bravery of the pilot is very touching and honestly inspiring. Thanks very much from myself and others who maybe (just maybe) see the planting of a little flag on a site like this as highly meaningful. Although I am not a veteran of the Corps..........I think the phrase SEMPER FI is appropriate here.
Congratulations Sarah on your extreme persistence in finding the crash site! Can hardly imagine being able to deal with those temperatures and harsh terrain. We have some rough terrain in Alberta but nothing like those temperatures.Thank You for a very interesting video. God Bless Sarah.
That was a vary nice thing you did to Memorialize the CIA Pilot. Major Hussy.
American flags🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 beautiful patriotic... you and Scott on Memorial weekend
I am very proud of you for continuing and completing the mission!
What a great blog on many levels. You never gave up.

Your Memorial Day hike to Walter Ray’s site was so very honorable and exemplifies your great being! Thank you very much.
Another one of your Great Videos!! As a former military man I want to Thank You for the respect that you showed on Memorial Day for a Fallen Hero!!! The model that was made was great and the flags that you left was a great touch! Wonderhussy You did Yourself Proud, and I would follow you anywhere you wanted to go!!!! Take Care and Stay Safe Sarah Jane!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
